WOW! Stuff Collection Harry Potter Wingardium Leviosa Kit

Product as expected

With the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie due out in November and Halloween around the corner, Harry Potter fans--wizards, witches and Muggles--undoubtedly want to do a little magic of their own. Now is your chance with WOW! Stuff Harry Potter Wingardium Leviosa Kit.

Potter fans will recognize Wingardium Leviosa as the magic phrase that Hermione Granger uses to perform the levitation spell in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone--book and movie. With the right pronunciation (LeviOsa, not LeviosA) and with a swish-and-flick motion, Hermione makes a feather rise in the air.

My video shows my attempt to perform the motion. Note that the feather does rise. How? Well, since this is a review, I can give away the secret--WOW Stuff reveals the secret in the video on their Web site, and in the instructions in the package. I recommend watching the video, reading the instructions, and watching the Wingardium Leviosa scene in the movie.

The package comes with a small version of Hermione's wand, a feather, and eight plastic buttons around which are spooled superfine invisible thread, to which the manufacturers attach two pieces of putty. You attach one piece of putty to the middle of the feather, connect it with the thread, then attach the other under a shirt collar (the video says you can also hide it on the underside of your finger in the hand that holds the wand.) Lay the feather on a table or other flat surface, and perform the trick as seen in the video. The feather seems to float!

It takes a bit of practice to get the feather to move smoothly. The thread is delicate and although it lasts for several uses, it does break eventually--fortunately, the kit gives you eight. The instructions say you need to affiix the thread you use to a wall with the putty rather than coiling it up on the plastic button. I agree with that.

I definitely recommend, if you dress up as a witch or wizard this Halloween, getting the trick beforehand and practicing before your Halloween party. Let's make magic!

Broken down to the essentials, this is a typical kid magic trick, with of course the Harry Potter theme.

First things first - the wand is NOT to scale...it's smaller. Still detailed and all, but it's not going to be a cosplay accessory.

Main idea is that you attach included thread to the feather (instructions say use putty, but I just tied it to the feather) and use the wand as a distraction device as you manipulate the string and make the feather appear to float. Care is advised as the kit makes note of the string being VERY fine...yes, it makes it hard to see but it also makes it easy to break.

So from where I sit, this is likely welcomed for young fans of the book (or movie) series and is interesting on that basis.

A company called WOW Stuff has undertaken to produce/distribute a number of items related to Harry Potter in relation to (one assumes) Mr. P's 20th Anniversary. I am reviewing some of these and, by virtues of their virtues and liabilities there will be a certain sameness to these

This review deals with the Wizarding World Wingardium Leviosa Kit, White, WW-1018

As with other like products, the detail and authenticity of this levitating rod "trick" are admirable; if the trick itself is a bit hoary, well, you ARE dealing with Muggles, and young ones, at that

I CAN tell you that, as a trick, when done correctly, it DOES work and as a collectible it just might be "priceless"

My 17 year old daughter is still a fan of all things Harry Potter. She's been introducing her 9 year old cousin to the world of HP and I thought this would be a fun activity for them to do. It was easy enough for the 9 year old to learn and do. Both girls had fun performing their magic trick for the younger kids. My 4 year old niece truly believes that it was real magic! The invisible thread is thin. It took a little time getting used to it since it's a bit fragile. The girls had to keep it away from the grabby 4 year old after she grabbed and broke the first one they used. There are extras just for that reason. This is fun for Harry Potter fans and is great for imaginative play time.

This thing is really pretty cool, especially for the kids. My wife and I liked it because it was HP but my daughter and son love it because it "amazes" their friends. I won't give away the trick but it is pretty obvious once you see it up close. The wand is not the highest quality and not as big as the ones in the movie but looks legit enough. The box to hold it is much larger than is necessary but gives a little mystique to the kit. Though we ruined any collectible value by opening and using it, the item itself is pretty cool and am glad my kids get a lot of fun from it.

I got this because I love magic and have a toddler who I thought I would introduce to it, got this kit, played with it and "mastered it" very easily. I then showed my toddler who was amazed by it, I didnt listen to the magicians creed that once is a trick, twice is a lesson. I did it more than once and on the second attempt she reached out and grabbed the feather, broke the string. Now the good news is she didn't know she did that and the kit comes with extra string so you can repair. It's a nice little trick, very fun.

So, not the regulation sized wand you would get at Universal - this is small - but it's still nice for your Harry Potter fan.

Resident 10 year old (so old and jaded), thought the feather trick was cool for about half a minute. but still liked the wand and it has a place of honor on her shelf.

Younger Potterheads will delight in their 'magic' trick and likely show you again and again (and again and again and again until you hide the feather so they can't do it anymore).

Definitely a cute item!

This is a cool idea, the fibers that connect the feather to your shirt or wand are very thin and almost invisible. The putty that sticks the fibers to the feather and shirt are not so invisible. My kids loved this set, it’s an easy “magic trick” for anyone. I think they were a little too young to have something like this though ( they are 4 and 7 years old). I would give this set to an older kid that will take care of it.

This is a really cute little toy. I bought it for my 10 year old who loves all things Harry Potter. It's very easy to set up the trick and the wire is nearly impossible to see. It comes with extra threads and putty for attaching the threads. My only complaint is that the wand it comes with is really tiny. I'd almost rather spend a little more and have a regular size wand. This wand is about the size of a pencil.
