I love wine and always have need to store a number of bottles at home for short and medium term storage, by which I mean for up to a year or two. My challenge has been that I recently moved from London to California and only had a small amount of space in my new home in California. What I didn't want to do though is compromise on how I store my wine.
This unit was perfect as fits in the space that would normally be for a dryer, and I bought a 2 in 1 washer dryer to alleviate the need for using that space for the dryer. However although the space has a plenty pig enough footprint for a wine fridge it was limited in height by a built in shelf. This unit is much shorter than a full size fridge, at about 56 inches in height, so perfect for my needs.
The challenge however is that I had not heard of Kingsbottle and I was hesitant about trusting my gorgeous wine to an unknown fridge. But due to my space limitations I felt I had little choice, so I took the plunge.
The short story is that I think this fridge represents decent value for money and that I found Kingsbottle a pleasure to do business with, I also bought the Assurant 360 coverage and was pleasantly surprised to get an un-promted call from them checking I was happy with everything. Thing is I'm not going to know unless I have to make a claim, which i certainly hope not!!
Pros:
-Good quality, feels well built, good controls, operates as expected
-Great size overall, good capacity
-Dual temp zones is nice feature and appears to work well
-For a proper wine storage fridge this is a good price
-Kingsbottle was very helpful company to deal with
Cons:
- The spacings in the racks are too close together (it would have been better to have less overall storage with room for slightly wider bottles)
- Cool storage is at the top (why when hot air rises and cold sinks, would you put the cool portion at the top? I don't understand)
- Slightly noisy
I should qualify some of the above. By noisy I am being objective for a fridge. It sits in the laundry space in a hallway near our room, and with our bedroom door open I can hear it clearly at night when it comes on. Luckily it doesn't come on much, and it's not that bad a noise to be disturbing, however if you are sensitive and will have it closer to you, it could be an issue.
As far as I can tell it has not been an issue having the cooling at the top, it appears to keep the temperatures pretty well constant, and it isn't working all the time, so I guess it's not a huge issue, I just find it contrary to common sense thats all. I'd like to be able to set the bottom section as the cool section and keep the wines at the top quite 'warm', i.e. cellar temp - 60f / 15c
I'm not trying to cram this wine fridge full, for long term storage I leave wines at the vendors or in professional storage, I don't get them delivered to home until I know I'm going to be consuming them in the next few months. I sometimes pick up the odd interesting bottle when I am browsing in a wine store that needs to be stored for a year or two, but not much, so its rare I need a lot of long term storage. If you really need a good amount of room for every size of bottle, I suggest you will have to bite the bullet and pay for one of the real premium brand fridges. I had a Transtherm in the UK which was _awesome_ but it costs many times more than this fridge, however it had much bigger gaps between bottles and would accommodate awkward sizes and shapes, and had a large centre section that was open for magnums etc. So if you have a collection of odd sizes and wide bottles and intend to fill the fridge, keep looking.
Other than that slight limitation, this appears to be a great wine fridge for the money.
I will come back an update this review if anything changes.
Works fantastically. Both zones keep temperature well. Flexible storage solutions built into the design. Holds all size bottles with ease. Overall great product!
So far it has met expectations. It doesn't handle all the bottle sizes easily. It looks good. Not to overwhelming in the family room. Nice size higher etc. I like the wood racks. They slide out easily. It seems to keep the temperature within the correct range. I need to buy s couple of thermometers to see how accurate the to temp really is.
We are very happy with this. We have had several thermoelectric wine coolers, and they just don't last well. We found that we were able to put even our larger bottles in this without having to remove any shelves -- much to our surprise. No label-scraping to fit them in, either. The shelves roll out smoothly so you can see your collection. The digital display is reassuring that the two ares are keeping at the right temperature -- and they are, within 4 or so degrees. We have ours in our game room, and although I wouldn't call it silent, we certainly are not disturbed by the sound it makes when the cooling comes on. We've had ours about 3 months, and it has been completely problem-free so far. Delivery and setup were fine.
I was a little concerned when I ordered not being familiar with the brand but was pleasantly surprised. I like the way it was constructed and so far it is working very well. I would definitely recommend.
