I have no idea what the others are talking about it taking 4 hours to dry clothes. The longest it's gone for us is about 3 hours and that was due to overloading it with jeans. Normally dry time was from 1.5 to 2 hours.
We really like our unit. It was a huge pain to install due to it's weight and tight quarters, but once in use we used it every day. Sure, you have to wash more often, but it hasn't been an issue. We upgraded from a 1.1 cu unit that didn't dry clothes at all and compared to that, this unit is a dream. If you are comparing it to a house style dryer then YES, you will be disappointed. This thing doesn't dry clothes in a half hour. If that's what you're looking for you won't find it in a combo washer/dryer.
However, if you're looking for a combo that works in an RV and will wash and dry clothes to the tune of 2 - 3 loads a day, You've found the right one. Don't spend money on the more expensive brands. This thing is worth every penny.
Plus it plays "Fur Elise" for you when you shut it off! Now who can complain about that? haha
Note: You can take the door off to install it. Just note that there is a wire that holds the seal in that you'll have to remove and that there is a bracket that will fall off inside when you remove the door screws. No worry, you can remove the wire that holds the seal on and get the bracket out. You'll need to do this to reinstall the bracket anyway and it really wasn't that difficult once you see how it works.
Also, we followed the warnings of others who ordered and made sure we stayed in close contact with the shipping company. We called them immediately after we got confirmation of the order from them. We called them again the day before. We verified and re-verified that they were coming to the right place and since we were on a dead-end that they wouldn't bring a truck too big to turn around. We feel that because of our diligence to verify delivery, our shipment went off without a hitch. We recommend you do the same!!
Great washer bad delivery JBC product management
The washer dryer is great. It does take more time to dry than a traditional dryer. The delivery was preformed by JBC product Management at 1800 341 5693 They didn't remove the bolts that hold the drum in place. Refused to finsh unpacking and refused to connect. The guy in charge let it slip that they were in a rush. And said I would get a refund for the lack of installation. The guy in charge of the delivery wrote that qoute unpacked in living room, not ready for install. This was not accurate. I removed the old washer dryer by splindied a few hours before they delivery. All they had to do was pull all the bolts that secure the drum connect two hose and plug it in. Instead I had to do their job and they got paid. And when I called to get a refund for not installing they made excuses and blamed me. So... JBC product management at 1800 341 5693 I have called costco , GE and will be writing many review about your lazy, lying, employees in a rush to get home and that you don't take responsibility for. Refuse delivery from JBC product management and insist on a company will to do the job they were paid to do.
i got this to replace a dishwasher i dont use in my kitchen. before purchasing i spent a good couple of months researching so i was well aware of the limitations of these type of units and accordingly my expectations were very low. but i was willing to put up with the limitations for the convenience of having a washer/dryer instead of an appliance i do not use.
i first considered the LG model (a bit bigger, better reviews) but the reason i did not go with it is it's width - while someone here helpfully measured theirs to less then 24", LG itself firmly told me that the units are exactly 24" and i didnt want to risk it not fitting (the dishwasher opening i have is exactly 24").
so i got this haier.
some notes and advice, in no particular order:
1. it came with RUBBER HOSE. i would have preferred stainless steel and if i had known in advance, i would have bought the ss hose to use instead of rubber. too late now, its all installed and too heavy to move now. not a huge deal but ss would have been better.
2. SMALL CAPACITY. BUT, i was aware of its size before i got it so not really a surprise and, for me, not a huge problem. it fits queen size, heavy high thread count sheets set in one load relatively comfortably. a queen size heavy winter comforter will not fit. a same size blanket does fit.
3. the bliss of not having to go to the common laundry room! i had forgotten how convenient, and sanitary, it is to have your own washer dryer - it is simply GLORIOUS!!!
4. having had the unit for about 3 months now, i have not had any issues at all. it churns along as its meant to, without any hiccups. and my, granted very low, expectations have been much exceeded.
5. READ AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. if you follow them, you will have good laundry results. if you fill up the washer to capacity, you must lighten up the load to dry properly. for me thats not an issue as, whether i fill it up or not, i remove some items before drying because they should not be dried or i just prefer them air dried.
6. DRYING - for me, the above mentioned queen sheets set dry in 1.5 hrs. a 100% cotton blanket of the same size took 2.5 hrs to dry completely. a poly blend blanket took 1.5 hrs. two cotton bath towels and four hand towels took 2 hrs. for regular clothes, 1/2 to 3/4 full dryer gets them dry 90% dry in 50min. i personally prefer my clothes (except sheets and towels) not bone dry crispy out of the dryer so im ok with 90%. when you take your laundry out, the clothes are steamy not wet. shake off the steam leaving dry clothes. also, an observation- the drum is warm for a loooong time after the cycle is finished. i have found it still little warm inside couple of hours after i have removed the clothes. idk why that is so but it doesnt bother me. maybe it will in the summer tho...
7. clean the SEALS regularly from lint. less often, but still once in a while (i have been doing it once a month), clean the LINT TRAP. this is probably more often then necessary but i want to be proactive and avoid backups/leaks. leave the door and detergent compartment open after use to dry completely to avoid stale smells. for reference, i do about 3-4 loads a week.
8. PLUMBING. i learned a ton of plumbing info when i started researching this switch from dishwasher to washer/dryer... with no plumbing experience myself, i had a hard time finding information on how to adapt the setup, what can work and what alternatives there are for a standard washer installation so i will share here my experience. this unit requires BOTH hot and cold water supply, and proper drain size. unexpectedly for me, the drain was the bigger issue. it turns out that while the space for a dishwasher and compact washer/dryers is the same 24", plumbing is different. it is still all under the kitchen sink tho, and no wall excavating. for the dishwasher, i had the hot water split with valve and hose, and the standard ~.5" drain branch was plumbed directly on the sink tailpiece normal. now washers apparently require a much larger drain because they pump out water very fast. while this is a small washer, i.e. less water, even if i was somehow able to adapt the branch used by the dishwasher to connect it, i didnt want to risk backup back into the machine or the sink. (side note- while reading on the subject i saw someone had advised to put a bowling ball on the sink drain to prevent overflow form the washer... but wouldnt that force the water back into the washer? you could end up with laundry rinsed in dirty water imo. or worse, a broken pump/machine) i ended up with professional plumbers who 1. put in a valve on the cold water as well (easy, even DIY of you are anywhere near handy) and 2. install/weld a new 2" drain pipe directly from the main kitchen drain (not the tailpiece) to the space behind the new washer/dryer (and i cant say anything involving welding is easy so NO DYI imo!). this works perfectly now and i have a peace of mind.
9. this machine is so much more EFFECTIVE than i expected. it got out, on the normal cycle, stains that i thought permanent that had not come out in other machines even with oxyclean. everything i put in there comes out cleaner than from the commercial machines. the first few weeks, i found myself actively looking for things already washed before in the commercial machines to wash now in this machine :)
10. COST. i pay electric only so cant speak of water/gas bills but my electric bill has not changed perceptibly so i dont think this unit has cost me more then a couple of dollars a month for 3-4 loads per week!
11. use less DETERGENT than you want to. really i know everyone says it, but its true. in the case of detergent, less is best for this machine. i use liquid tyde free and gentle 1/4 cup to a full load. needless to say, the detergent MUST be for HE machines, you dont want to end up with soap bubbles all over the floor.
It only take 2 hr to dry and you have to make sure you use only cold washer. I used mine for the first time yesterday and was amazed how dry the clothes were. ...
