After a lot of research on LED's and remote phosphor (way too much technical reading) I thought this was worth a try despite the price point. Even though this was so expensive, I thought just the power savings may make up for it if it did a descent job.
Out of the box I was very shocked at the weight. This thing is heavy. I examined and played and adjusted and scrutinized. Overall, The quality of the build was VERY impressive. Heavy duty frame, built in heat sink at the top of the units that seemed to be a bit more than the unit needed, excellent hardware, wiring was over the top also.
So on to the real test. Does it work as a grow light. I had a mum that was brought in last fall with little wilting sprouts on it. The sun has shifted here in snow country so it was trying to start growing again, just not very well. I gave it a good watering and a little food and put it under the light in a room that has dark curtains three days ago. There is almost no supplemental sunlight to help it now. That little guy has grown a few inches already.
So, the final verdict for this stage of the trial run is two thumbs up.
In two weeks, it is going into a 4X4 grow tent. I'll update then.
Love this light, just what I needed. I've owned two other LED grow lights and neither work as well as this LED light.
I bought this light for one main reason. I wanted a white light. My plants (tomato, cucumber, arugula etc...) are in a room that I like to read or watch TV in sometimes. Both my other LED fixtures have purple/pink light which makes it impossible for me to be in the room when on. When this light is on it is just like bright sunlight in the room.
After using this light for a few days I've found three other things that I really like. First, it is silent. No whiz of fans. Second, it gives off very little heat. Third, it's only been a few days but my plants are definitely growing better than before. I'm a little surprised because the Transcend LED uses almost half the power draw of my last LED.
I don't know if it will last for as many years they say but it seems to be a very solid design. Doesn't feel cheap. Also, don't look directly at it, you will see spots for hours!
