Pentel Arts Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks, 15 Color Set (PTS-15)

These are fabric dye sticks are wonderful, really hold up after many, many washes. The dye sticks are very similar to an oil pastel, very soft and smudgy.
On stretchy materials, like t-shirts, it does require a technique to apply and might be challenging for a small child. They work fabulous on firm materials, like canvas, blending in easy and the colors are so bold.
The heat set is simple and easy and MUST BE DONE in order for a PERMANENT product. The pictures of the shirts I made have been washed over 20 times on warm cycle. I did one on a gray shirt and was impressed on how well the color showed up and stayed after so many washes.

These were pretty easy to work with. Used them with my grandsons. 10,8,6, and 3. I was a little disappointed that the red did not stay bright red after heat set.

So you open the pack of Dye Sticks and see what looks like a set of Crayons, but... Crayons are for kids! These Dye sticks are serious business. Not that a child couldn't use these, but they might not grasp the blending and smudging of colors.
Speaking of smudging, I found (after using a whole set) that if you roughly color in the area you want, say red. Then I use a little piece of fabric to smudge the red all over the area. Smudging not only saves dye sticks, it gives you a smoother more consistent color. Since the colors are smudg-able, be careful not to drag your hand through different colors or get carried away smudging and blend colors you wanted separate.
These little sticks are wonderful. I've used them for designing shirts and ties and am quite pleased.

I love these! It was my first time using pastels on fabrics. I'm a pastel artist so I'm familiar with it. Use them as you would use your oil pastels. Bold strokes give bold colour, light strokes give a more crayon/water colour effect. I've noticed the colour heat sets better on cotton than canvas so far. No regrets with my purchase.

fun to play with and when I ordered it it was an ad on item at a great price (does not seem to be an add on item any more). Just be careful not leave them in a hot car on a hot day.... They are a little hard to work with so might not be great for very young kids with a tidy streak, or kids who lose patience quickly.

Description

Pentel Arts Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks - 15 Color Set Pentel Co., Ltd. is a privately held Japanese company which produces stationery products. The name is a combination of the English words pen and tell. Pentel is also the inventor of non-permanent marker technology.

Worked great on my carpet over a bleach spot.

I got these for my cousin who loves drawing. I got a another set for myself. The colors are vibrant and easy to blend. I used mine on a canvas and I really like the quality. I will buy more colors for sure!

I purchased the Pentel Arts Fabric Fun Pastel Dye Sticks as part of a Christmas gift for my 9 year old daughter. She has gotten quite a bit of use out of them so far and so has her sister. They go on the fabric very easily. The color is very rich and stays put. I would definitely get these over fabric markers and unless you want the texture that fabric paint gives, I'd choose these over the paint too. If you like oil pastels, that is pretty much what these are except for fabric. I've washed the shirts my daughter "designed" several times now and the color hasn't faded yet. These offer a lot of creative fun for a small price.

They are easy to use love them!

Love these dye sticks, so much fun to play with. Used them with my grandkids!!!
