Gear Aid Tenacious Tape Repair Tape for Fabric and Vinyl, 3” x 20”

This tape saved my brand new Marmot jacket. Dont hesitate to purchase this product, I am a perfectionist, this tape is awesome. I slipped down the stairs in my brand new Marmot jacket a week after I purchased it. Somehow I managed to get two precision cuts on the elbow of the jacket. I had down feathers flying out of the hole every time i moved my arm. I was truly disappointed that I ruined my jacket after only a week of use, I swore to myself that I will never buy another jacket with such thin material. After doing research I purchased this product, the picture doesn't do it justice, the tape makes my jacket look and wear like it is brand new again. I am fully confident that it will stay on it for the life of my jacket. I purchased the clear, it is barely noticeable, easy to apply, and slightly stands out because of the glare. I will now use it on all my outdoor gear. I wish I knew about it sooner, I would have fixed my backpacking tent that has a small hole on the side from an amber landing on it. The best solution out there. Very happy!

So my dog ripped some sizeable holes in my pricey double sleeping bag. Looking on how to repair it I found great reviews on tenacious tape. I wasn't sure which to buy so I got both the clear and the green. Glad I did. I needed 2 rolls to fix the holes. There is only 20 inches in each roll. I now had a way to compare. I suggest if you get this stuff to repair nylon sleeping bags/jackets etc get the colored fabric tape even if it's not a great color match. The clear is bulky and in the end looks worse. I ordered another roll of the green now but for now the clear will do. This stuff really is TENACIOUS though. Sticks amazingly well!! have to say the FABRIC tape is amazing! The fabric tape is barely noticeable when you slide your hand over it. I wish the rolls were bigger but still it's worth it. The clear however is pretty horrible looking and hard to use on a sleeping bag. It also feels very bulky and well..... plastic. Might be good for something plastic. Definitely worth even a poor color match to use the fabric tapes.

I purchased this tape to repair are a 3-4 foot rip on a nylon bounce house. It's been several months since I made the repair and the tape is holding up great. The edges are still adhered well, too...no curling. I've been very impressed with this product.

Amazing product as everyone states, bought it to fix a small rip I got from brushing against the wall with then 48hr old Arc'teryx down jacket!! I initially sent the jacket back to Arc'teryx to repair and they heat sealed the small rip in the jacket. As standard practice they call to confirm what is being done so during the phone call they actually recommended Tenacious Tape for rips as small as this (or anything else for that matter, as they explained its wonderful uses as I read in the other reviews), as the heat seal they applied may not be as effective due to it being so small. 2 years later the edge of the tear started to fray as the seal is from the inside of the jacket cell, so I went looking for some Tenacious Tape to cover the weld along with prevent it from reopening. The result was very satisfying, its nearly unnoticeable as the clear color blends well and is textured like the rip-stop nylon the lightweight downs are made of, its more on the matted side than shiny but its actually ok because the rip is near the lower part of a cell so it isn't noticeable.... highly recommended!

I received a Rumpl down blanket for Christmas. After a couple days I noticed a very small slice, probably from a box cutter. It was so small that only one feather would come through at a time, and as I try to be very conscious of waste, it seemed petty and wasteful to return the blanket for a new one. However it was a gift and it is a very pretty rainbow-colored blanket, so I wanted to make sure a repair would be as invisible as possible. The slice was on a softer/lighter-colored orangey part, so I ordered both the orange and the platinum nylon tenacious tape, ("platinum" I was thinking probably meant "white") since I've heard several times that the clear tape is a different material and not as good. The orange was not a match at all, it is a bold safety orange color. However, I have a lot of Copic markers. They are permanent art markers. (Prismacolor markers are basically the same thing.) I have used them often to mask repairs before. So I used a light orangey one to color the platinum tape, which seems a little different in texture from the orange tape (the platinum is finer, smoother) and is actually pretty transparent, and somewhat off white. Here you can see the result. I am fairly pleased. It's not totally invisible, and it is a little stiffer than the surrounding material, but it seems like it will be fairly easy to miss. I also think you could use it on medium/light colors without coloring it at all, and it would blend okay, because of the transparency. Anyway, I wish I knew who to contact, to tell them to be less careless with a box cutter. But I'm glad there's such a product as Tenacious Tape, and I will keep both rolls sealed in a bag like it says in the instructions for future use! And I will update in a while to tell how it holds up.

EDIT: I found where the stuff sack was sliced as well, and used the platinum to repair it from the inside. It was sliced on a medium blue part. I did not color it, and still it blends fine because of the transparency, but I think it blended better with the orange, it has a warmish tone to it.

This is the stuff right here folks! The real deal! It really is tenacious in the way it holds, and its durability. I've used this to repair holes on an old Kelty external frame pack, and they've held for years. I patched a very expensive self inflating sleeping mat, and it too has held strong for dozens of nights in the wilderness.

I'm here to buy more, because I just recently used the last of it to patch a cut in my heavy duty commercial vinyl lawnmower seat. I cut a small rectangle piece to just fit over the slice, then I cut a larger round patch to go over that, making sure to cover all the corners of the first patch. I did the sleeping mat the same way. If you're able, cut the final patch round in shape because corner are more likely to get snagged and peeled up. Although it it isn't easy to try and peel this stuff, I like to mitigate the risk to begin with. As long as you apply it firmly and press out any little air bubbles, it's barely noticeable once applied since it's clear. The finish is somewhere between matte, and shiny so it's great for a wide variety of applications, but I love it for vinyl and nylon repairs.

For something like a garment or backpack... I recommend patching both sides (inside and out) if you're able. That way any loose or frayed material will be stabilized from both sides providing a more secure permanent patch. Don't get me wrong... I love my duct/Duck tape, but it isn't always the best suited material for every application.

This is the most amazing product however, it should be noted that the feel of the different colors is not the same. I purchased Black - gray - Reflective and the patches. The reflective, gray and patches are all very much a nylon and rip-stop. You can see the threads running through them creating the squares. The black arrived and it feels more like a heavier weight nylon and is not the slippery feeling of rip-stop. Both products work amazing but it should noted that they are not all the same material.

This tape works as advertised. My main complaint is that it's quite expensive for the amount you get. We have used it for several repairs, including of an awning made of Sunbrella material, which itself is a pretty tough fabric. A repair we did last year still looks "new" after sun, rain, snow and even a bit of hail. I'd give it five stars if the price were more reasonable - I suppose it's a good value if used judiciously.

To note: This tape does not conform well to corners. I used some of the clear version to repair a soft vinyl binocular case. In spite of careful cutting to "form" the tape to the curves of the case I still ended up with some spots with sharpish points. The inability to form itself is probably an advantage in repair on flat fabric surfaces, as it means the tape won't stretch. I'm sure that has helped it to work well on the Sunbrella awning we repaired.

As with any adhesive, follow the surface cleaning instructions that come with the tape, as well as those to apply pressure for some period of time to allow the tape's adhesive to "set".

I was able to use this tape to repair my Gortex ski/snowboard pants that I love. Over Xmas, I was at a ski area and someone mishandled skis and managed to swipe the edges across the back of my leg and left a 4"-5" gash in my beloved ski/board Northface pants. Doh! Used Gorilla tape for temporary fix (works amazing), but I got this for a long term fix and kinda match the color. This did the job, at least for the one day I've used them since. A couple of things to note:
- The tape is thin, but strong. When you take off the backing, you need to be very careful in handling it because it will fold back on itself and be difficult to unstick from itself. Take your time.
- For long tears, they recommend using tape on both sides. For my ski/board pants, the tear didn't go through the inner lining, so maneuvering a backing piece of repair tape between the outside layer and inner lining was completely impossible. With constrained access to the back side of the tear, and having wasted some of the thin tape trying to slide a single piece into the backside of the tear, I ended up using a set of four strips (like steri-strip bandages), starting at both ends of the tear and then working toward the middle. I then used a single large piece on the outside, effectuating a strong, two-sided repair.
- I used *sharp* scissors to trim/round the corners, per instructions. Dull scissors will just mangle the thin tape.
- This tape requires patience and care to make it work (which it will)
- Color matching gets in the ballpark, but isn't exact. My wife made me feel better by suggesting my obviously repaired pants make it look like I'm a raucous shredder, who skis the heck out of my gear. I'm in my mid-50s. :-)

This is exactly what is advertised - a roll of very thin tough rip-stop nylon with some extremely sticky adhesive on it that makes it perfect for patching fluffy down jackets, tents, etc. My only caution would be to choose your color carefully. The "silver" color I got is semi-transparent, but not completely transparent. The result is that it kind of catches the eye, yet does not completely visually obscure the hole. You can see the patch of a different color material yet you can also see the tear through it. I suspect other colors might be more opaque and perhaps less visually distracting - they will just look like a patch, whereas the silver draws they eye in and makes you go: "what is that?" a stain or a patch or what? Overall I am fine with it and it functions perfectly for my needs, but I wish I had gone with my first instinct and purchased orange. :-)
