Ok- lets talk about this hot sauce.... Can you say BEST EVER!!!!! I'm not a fan of Oprah, but I've got to give her props on this stuff.... It's perfectly balanced. It's sweet, savory, spicy, and has the perfect amount of truffle flavor. Trust me... I know good food. I've eaten at Thomas Keller's French Laundry. I live in a city with an amazing food scene. We have over 3500 restaurants in San Diego. I eat truffles ALL THE TIME! My wife and I are foodies to the max!

But the main reason I wanted to write this review was to discredit some of the "naysayers". The majority of their complaints actually contradict one other. I cut and pasted some of the negative reviews posted by Amazon to point out a lack of logic, and a lack of refinement and sophistication in regards to their palate.

Ok.... Here we go.

Suggestion- If you've never eaten truffles before, then go eat some raw truffle before you start railing on this product. Or get a fresh one, and shave it into a simple pasta dish. Try it in it's purest form before you start commenting on how bad the sauce tastes. Not everyone likes truffles. I personally know a few people that hate them (poor dopes). But don't let a truffle infused hot sauce be your first truffle experience.

The sauce is sweet. BIG DEAL! It's also salty, and spicy. It's sweeter than most. Again- BIG DEAL! I have some super spicy BBQ sauce that is hot and sweet. People won't question a spicy BBQ sauce, but they'll question the sweetness of this? You know guys, there's a picture of the ingredients and the quantities on the bottle. Maybe you should read first. Just a suggestion. It has sugar in it.

Then as I read the more of the negative reviews, I see people saying, " It's too hot. It's not hot enough. The truffle flavor is too strong. I can barely taste the truffle." So which is it? Is it too hot, or not hot enough? Is the flavor too strong, or not strong enough? I think you should go through each negative review and count the too hot's, and cancel them out with the not hot enough's. Or take the too much flavor's and cancel them out with the not enough flavor's. That alone would eliminate 95% of the counter-intuitive negative reviews.

So here are some negative reviews that vexed me:
1. "Now, onto the after-party. Oh yes, the gooey, desiccated gray food-like product that is TRUFF doesn't stop giving after the swallowing's done"

Well Michael, when you look at the pictures of the sauce online, and you can PLAINLY see that the sauce is vibrant red/orange, and not "desiccated gray", it's safe to say that you used zero logic when you consumed it, and your bouts of diarrhea are your reward for intellectual deficiency. Yours was OBVIOUSLY bad! Darwin called.... "Try this mushroom and see what happens." Don't be a "mushroom tester" like Michael.

#2- "Update (1/8/19)- I finally found a food combo that was enhanced by this sauce: Frozen spinach mixed with leftover taco meat and microwaved...."

I laughed out loud when I read this. Are you serious? Who the hell eats this and publicly claims it as a food combination that is a regular part of their diet. Wow.... How sophisticated you are. This combination in and of itself is testimony that you aren't ready for truffle. Go back to Tabasco sauce or Tapatio my friend.

#3- "If you ate melted plastic, it would probably taste like this liquid vile of nonsense."

Does plastic taste different when it's melted? I'm not even sure where an analogy like this comes from. It's HOGWASH!

#4- "Very disappointed in this product. It’s very sweet, minimal truffle flavor, and overall a poor product. Fine print is this is hot sauce mixed with truffle oil, not truffle hot sauce. 100% would not recommend."

Hate to tell you this my friend, but truffles are VERY, VERY perishable. So unless you're eating fresh ones, the flavor profile they infuse into a dish will utilize dried and ground truffles, or oil infused with truffle flavor. I have truffle oil at home that is EXQUISITE! Truffle has a VERY STRONG flavor, so it takes very little to flavor an oil, or a dish. But if they put raw truffle in the sauce, it would rot/spoil. Use your brain!

#5- "What an absolutely disappointing and terrible "hot sauce". The flavor is awful and does not even taste hot. The main truffle ingredient is "truffle essence", Whatever that is. Sounds like some sort of chemical concoction to try to emulate truffles"

As I explained in the prior comment, essence is an infusion of the flavor. If you buy anything bottled, canned, or pasteurized that has truffle in it, there is a 99% chance the flavor is infused into it. Then this guy says it doesn't taste hot.... LOL.... Spice doesn't have a flavor. It's a feeling. A reaction by your the pain receptors in your mouth that is caused by the naturally occurring capsaicin in the peppers. It just simulates pain. It doesn't really hurt you. That's why pepper sprays are non lethal forms of crowd control. But saying it doesn't taste hot is like saying ice cream doesn't taste cold.

#6- "I love truffle, hate this sauce. Doesn’t taste like real truffle, doesn’t smell like it, EXTREMELY overpowering. Truffle is supposed to be a very light touch to a dish, I was extremely disappointed"

This person is DEAD WRONG! They use truffle essence in the sauce, and it tastes EXACTLY like black truffle. How can it not taste like truffle, but simultaneously be extremely overpowering? Can you say "counter-intuitive"?

#7- "This hot sauce just isn’t very good. It has a great truffle aroma but did not match on flavor. My husband and I are hot sauce lovers (Crystal’s, Red Hot, Louisiana, ect.), but we were so disappointed by this one. Too sweet not enough vinegar..."

You and your husband sound like real connoisseurs of hot sauces. When you throw out names like Crystals, Louisiana, and Red Hot, how could anyone question the refinement of your palate? When you eat those exquisite sauces, do you wash them down with fine beverages such as Pabst or Lucky Logger Beer? Point made!

#8- "The taste is so horrible. This was a complete waste of money. The truffle is only infused into it"

I don't even know what to say with this review. Again, I laughed aloud. When you cook with fresh truffles, the flavor of the truffle 'infuses" into the dish. Truffles are very small, and very expensive. They have a very strong flavor. That's why you can shave 3 or 4 paper thin pieces of a fresh truffle onto your plate, and you can smell and taste it in every bite. That's the concept of using ingredients with dominant, forward flavors. A little bit goes a long way.

#9- (This is my favorite of all time) "Not Vegan because pig and dog labor is involved in the finding of truffles.
False advertisement. Oprah I am appalled you would support such a misleading company!"

First of all, this persons review had nothing to do with the product. It wasn't a verified purchase. Secondly, Truff NEVER claims to be vegan- ANYWHERE! The part that irritates me the most about this person's review their use of the term "pig and dog labor".

Well, I have a lot to say about this. First of all, our noses aren't good enough to sniff out truffles buried 6-12" under the dirt. So we need animals that have a superior sense of smell to find them. If you understand the history of truffles, you will discover that wild pigs uprooting and eating them is what tipped off humanity that they even existed in the first place. Pigs will DEVOUR them!

But let me ask you this my tree hugging friend, is it cruel to use dogs to sniff out bombs at the airport? Or to sniff out drugs in airports or border crossings? Both things designed to destroy or enslave humanity? The trainers turn the role of the animal into a game, and they LOVE IT! They are always rewarded, and they crave the game ALWAYS! Same with hunting for truffles. The animals enjoy the search because it has been turned into a game with a reward at the end.

But I have to say..... Of all the negative reviews, yours takes the cake for the one that contains the least validity and logic. It's just a political, emotional banter. If you were dissuaded from purchasing this product based off of this review, then you don't DESERVE to try this product!

Purchased this because it was Oprah’s favorite things. As a truffle and sriracha lover, this is what you get when truffle and sriracha had a baby but 10x better. I highly recommend because it helps my food taste better for my boring diets.

I got it in today and put it on some pork-chops -- tastes awesome, IMHO. Granted you have to like Truffles to like this sauce. It has a strong taste and smell of Truffles. To my taste it's not really spicy at all... but I eat REALLY SPICY food all the time. I will use this to add some truffle flavor to my already spicy foods and I will buy again.

If this didn't have agave nectar in it, it would probably be my favorite hot sauce in the world. I love the taste, the burn, just not the sweetness. (I like vinegary types of sauces the most) Also the lid is a bit messy, but that's really not a big deal to me.

I was scared after reading the reviews but a friend told me this was better than expected. So i ordered it and to be quite honest this is a very good sauce! Have in mind you must love spicy sauces, because its HOT. At the same time, its very good taste like. I love truffles, and this has a subtle but good flavor. The only thing missing in this is the bottle design: it has a huge opening so if you want to use a few drops... good luck. Order it.

I got this for my fiancĂ© for the holidays as he is obsessed with my truffle salt. His exact words were, “what is this trickery?” upon first use. We are also vegan, which makes food flavoring a really big deal and we go through bottles and bottles of hot sauce (I buy Cholula at Costco) monthly. This led me to wanting to try this hot sauce, combining these two obsessions. I brought it on a camping trip we took in southern Arizona during the winter to put on breakfast tofu scramble and the results were amazing. I love spicy hot sauce, but this is more mild with a full bodied umami flavor, which I usually prefer. I tend to get my extreme spice directly from cooking with chilis rather than adding sauce and depend on hot sauce for complex flavor. On our tofu scramble tacos, it was flavorful without a terrible mouth burn. When we got home, I added it to beyond burgers that I paired with truffle salt salted tomatoes and arugula for the peppery addition. Anything we have put it on so far has been taken to an entirely new level and we will be purchasing more bottles soon! I highly recommend to anyone who loves either truffles or hot sauce, but especially both!!!

I regularly keep roughly a dozen different hot sauces in my arsenal any given time. Each have different nuances complimentary to different foods. TRUFF is by far the most unique. Its pungent Unami aroma & more than slight agave sweetness are a perfect addition to simple foods like scrambled eggs but rather overpowering on more complex dishes. You will taste the TRUFF & not much else. The thickness of TRUFF is a plus; you pour it over your food like a thick pepper gravy not shake it on like most other watery hot sauces, I’m talking to you EJ McIlhenny. (On That consistency - when you first open the bottle there will be a white plastics seal over the bottle. DO NOT THROW IT OUT like I did. Remove it & stuff it flatly into the black plastic truffe shaped cap. This will give you an air-tight seal when you shake the bottle & prevent precious much of the sauce from being lost on the threads of the bottle & its top. Yes, the bottle is beautiful but this is clearly a design flaw, especially at this price.) Of everybody I’ve shared it with it is either love it or hate it, no middle ground. The packaging is well done & makes a nice gift. Would definitely buy again, but I am a retired chef & spend way more time on food prep than the average consumer. It’s a Zen thing. Don’t judge me. I have yet to try the limited edition white truffle version as the price is ridiculously high. I may be an excentric foodie but I’m not nuts. Or rich.

I really love this hot sauce, the pungent truffle aroma goes very well with the amount of spice in this sauce. Keep in mind that the sauce tastes better paired with food than on its own. Definitely one of the most unique and best hot sauces I’ve tried

My husband enjoys hot sauce so I bought this for him as the truffle flavor sounded interesting. It's been a lot of fun exploring this with different foods; I brought it to a cookout and everyone loved it on their sausages. Really great flavor; will definitely order again.

I'm sort of amazed by these really nasty reviews. I'm not sure why anyone would have such aversion to this pretty straight forward product. Its what you'd expect, basically an upscale version of Franks Red Hot mixed with truffle oil. It is a little sweet too, which I think is a nice balance to really bring out the truffle flavor. Its about the same hotness as Frank's, which is to say, not really spicy to someone that eats a lot of spicy food.

Since it has the oil added it would probably make for a really great wing sauce... but, it a little pricey for that application: )

The only negative is the bottle itself. Its does look very nice, but is not very functional. Given the price of this sauce, I'd prefer a bottle that was easier to use without the being wasteful. Sort of reminds me of the bottles used for hotel shampoo. That being said, that is certainly no reason I wouldn't continue buying this product. Its a tasty hot sauce that works great with grilled cheese, tuna melts or even vegetables. That's what I've tried so far.
