This toy will get you dancing! The promise is real - it really does adapt the music to your dancing in a way that is detectable yet mostly seamless, though slightly delayed (about half a beat). The app has a variety of dance type beats, and we found it fun for one person to DJ the music while others danced using the ball, though there is a longer delay of about 1 second when changing the music in the app. Once you figure it out you can work the pause into the music. This is a new product so I expect the app will get updates with more features and fixes over time, but I wouldn't wait for that to buy this product. I had to write a review when I saw there were none to let everyone know how fun this is! This was my favorite Christmas present this year.
Everyone wanted to take a turn with the magic music ball, and we found it fun to toss it around the group while dancing. It encourages wild and creative dancing which is a lot of fun to watch as well as do. This is such a fun toy that I came on Amazon to buy another - you can use two together to control rhythm and melody, and then two people get to hold the magic ball. I will definitely break this toy out at every party, and will probably dance alone with the shades drawn. ☺
A few other minor complaints: the app works well but is kind of ugly, and the cover on the ball that protects the removable electronics often popped off when someone dropped the ball. The whole package is extremely durable though and I am not at all worried about breaking it, and the rubber on the ball has a very nice feel that invites play.
I didn’t know the product, my best friend offered it to me to my birthday because I love music and I use it for parties with friends and sometimes for working out. Looking forward to see more tracks!
I'm a music teacher who works with special needs students. It's difficult to assess the understanding of non verbal special needs students. Sure there are pictures but just think about it, how would you picture the different elements of music to use to communicate? With Phonotonic I can have my students control the tempo of music and create a pattern through their motions. It's win-win because the students is actively participating and I'm able to now apply that functional deliberate motion to assess their musical knowledge or skill. The texture and shape of the Phonotonic will work for my students with sensory issues like students with autism often have.
I'm planning to work with the school's coach to do a combined music/PE class and have Phonotonic be the movement motivator!
I would give Phonotonic five stars but I'd like to be able to insert my own sound files into the list of rhythm and melody choices. Maybe in the future there could be a way to allow Phonotonic to play Garageband files through Audiobus? That would really be a five star item!
Got this for my boyfriend for our anniversary. He loved it and has been dancing and playing with it ever since. It's also a great way to keep kids entertained!

Description
Transform motion into music with Phonotonic! It’s a wearable (the sensor) and an app (the brain) that turn all your moves into music in real time. The sensor communicates with the Phonotonic app via Bluetooth and measures every movement. The app then transforms those data into music in real time. Users can choose any of the tracks featured in the app. Rhythm and melody are directly driven by the movements of the user.
