Makey Makey - An Invention Kit for Everyone

My son loves all the things he can do with his makey makey. Recommend the Evil Genius project book for exciting things to create.

This was my first Makey Makey invention kit and since this purchase I have ordered 5 more for my 2-6 science lab. Students LOVE the Makey Makey. We have turned pie tins and gummy worms in to game controllers for PacMan, Tetris, and Super Mario Brothers. My favorite student created projects include a tiny drum set made with Gaterade tops covered with tin foil and attached to a shoe box with tooth picks. This was a tiny drum set attached to a music program on the Makey Makey web site. We watched a TED talk and other youtube videos to introduce the Makey Makey. A fun and creative kit. It is not a toy kids will use daily but it will keep them busy for awhile and then they will come back to it monthly. Great for a classroom.

Outstanding product. So easy and so much fun for the kids while they learn about technology. A top pick for STEM products. Can be accessed using SCRATCH programming. And can be expanded by adding Arduino piggy back board to make limitless projects.

This has been the hit of the spring with the kids. We've had musical bananas, a sandwich space bar, water balloon instruments and a few other crazy shenanigans. How this will become an instrument for the talent show this year is yet to be determined, but I see it coming - and can't wait. This is exactly the hands-on, creative and critical thinking kids need.

While my 13-yo son didn't continue to play with this over the next year, he certainly enjoyed it for a few months. I loved that it contained everything he needed for creative, educational "wow" factor right on Christmas morning. So, great Christmas gift!

Description

What is make makey?
> turn the whole world into a keyboard. It's a simple invention kit for Beginners or experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between.

how does it work?
> alligator clip two objects to the Maker makes. For example, you and a banana (or an ice cube, or a cat). when you touch the banana, the computer just thinks a keyboard key is being pressed, so you can type a letter, jump in a video game, Take a picture, or play some music!

who is make makes for?
> kids, artists, educators, engineers, inventors, makers. Really it is for everyone.
what materials work with make makey?
ketchup, pencil graphite, finger paint, fruits, plants, coins, your grandma, silverware, anything that is wet, pets, aluminum, rain, and hundreds more. Really any material that can conduct at least a tiny bit of electricity.

what can I create?
> make a banana piano, play a video game on  a play dough game pad, take a selfie of your cat every time she drinks water. How? First, load up a computer program or any webpage. Let's say you load up a piano. Then, instead of using the computer keyboard buttons to play the piano, you can hook the Maker make up to something fun, like bananas, and the bananas become your piano keys.

This was hours of fun for both my husband and 5 year old daughter, I am sure they will go back to it a lot as there are many options to increase the difficulty level based on your child's interests and abilities. I am not sure who liked it more, my husband or my daughter ;)

Holy moly, did my kids have a great time with this. They spent an entire night getting along wonderfully playing with it. They haven't gone back to it since, but I think they will eventually.

My 11 year old son is very happy to have the Makey Makey. He played with it at school and requested it. They had one in Amazon Warehouse that came to my house practically new. My son enjoys playing online games with his made up controllers> I'll update this review once he gets to play with it more.

I teach high school and use this as a teaching tool. I had no issues connecting it to my PC and Raspberry Pi 3b+. The students get a kick out of controlling video games with all sorts of objects. I would like to see a DIY kit in the future with a lower price point as this is essentially plug-and-play device that requires no skill to assemble.

Purchased as a gift for my 12 year old daughter. Easy to use and lots of fun, but the novelty wore off fairly quickly. Still glad I purchased it though, very cool kit!!
