Love these blocking mats. They work just great. Someone said the grid lines don't match up---- but they do---you just have to take a little time, turning the blocks to find the correct match. Once lined up, I numbered mine so that when used again, it will be quick and easy to get the grids to match perfectly.
Before ordering this Hephaestus Blocking Mat set my husband and I tried many times to set up a DIY blocking system. Once using a simple cardboard box with cotton on top, once using a pegboard that he built himself, etc. Trust me it's not worth the trouble. This mat system works better than anything you could set up. The foam is easily punctured and the pins stay perfectly in place. I also used it with bamboo skewers because I was blocking a whole stack of crocheted hexagons and it worked awesome for that too. The grid lines are easy to see as well. My only negative and the reason I didn't give this item five stars is the package was sent without the T-pins that come with it. I immediately contacted the shop and explained that my pins were missing. I received an apologetic return email almost immediately and my T-pins arrived just a few days later. They assured me that the warehouse was made aware of the problem and it wouldn't be repeated and I believe them! These mats stack up and fit into a convenient storage bag as well. I would recommend this item for anyone looking for a blocking mat for knitting or crocheted items. Also, I think this would work well for jigsaw puzzles! It's very lightweight and easily movable so you can do your puzzle at the table and move it to another area while you eat. 👍🏻👍🏻

These are very good blocking blocks especially for the price. I am very satisfied. At first when I received them I had a problem lining up the gridlines. I contacted the seller who responded promptly and with a little mix and match I am now able to align them.
Previously I had ordered a competitors blocks and I could not even take them out of the box. The smell was overwhelming. I had to return them immediately. Not so with these.
These go together easily but if you want to configure anything other than a square the lines don’t match up no matter how you turn them. My project is 45” long so I thought ok 12x4 is 48 perfect! Nope. The squares are 12” but that includes the cut out portions to put them together which means 4 squares is 45”. As a result my project goes all the way to the ends and large parts of the edge pieces have noting holding them up. I’m hoping they dry evenly and if not I’m hoping if I just re-do the ends they will come out evenly. My project is also 14” wide so there were not two extra squares to make it longer. I wish it came with just one more square or was more honest about the size of the squares. I can’t speak to durability as I just got it today.

This product is perfect for blocking crochet projects. It is easy to assemble and has a small footprint for storage. The squares and pins make it easy to block my projects.
I worked for 35 hours on a hand knit wool blend sweater, and i soaked it in wonderful scented fabric softener, and everything was wonderful until I unpinned my sweater and it smelled like chemicals. The blocks have a very strong scent to them, and it has permeated my handknit sweater. I love the blocks, pins and tape measure, and would say buy this as long as you have time to air out the blocks and figure out a way to make them less stinky!
I thread crochet so blocking is essential! I did a lot of research before I bought these blocking mats. I wasnt sure what I should get but I did know what I needed! I needed blocking mats that didn't smell, with color that didn't bleed, steam and wet-blocking friendly, and 'sizable' for small projects and really big projects....boy did Hephaestus blocking mats really met the bill! I couldn't be happier! These mats are perfect! Not only do they meet all my requirements they are wonderfully thick :)
The lines all seem to match up just fine and when you get all the blocks together, it is huge!

These blocking mats have vastly improved the look of my finished knitting projects. The printed grid helps shape wet-blocked garments to size, and the mats break apart easily for storage. In addition, the mat material is sturdy and relatively self-healing from repeated use with T-pins. I regret that they have to be assembled by number to make the grid come out right, which limits the configurations you can use. Potential buyers should be aware that one set of these will not accommodate one of the larger shawl patterns or a very large sweater. I don't know if two sets of mats will link together so that the grid remains usable. It would be worth a try.
I spent the extra money on these as opposed to other blocking mats/exercise mats mainly for the grid. For the most part the grid lines up well, although I had a few piece with a very small jar (like 1-2mm) that persisted no matter how I turned the mats. Despite that, the grid made it much easier to properly line up my shawl. The foam pieces are reasonably thick, although you still have to take care not to stab the T-pins into whatever is underneath. Once snapped together the mats grip each other pretty well so I could pick up and move the whole thing even with an item pinned to it. Like some other reviews have mentioned, 3 feet x 3 feet isn't very big, and I wound up doubling down and buying a second set of the mats for larger items. On the whole I am very happy with them, although compared to say children's play mats the price is a little high.
