This flamingo pink 3Doodler Create Plus pen is the new and improved model of the 3Doodler Create. Differences--both models have two speeds but the Plus also has two temperature settings with selection dependent upon the filament material in use. The Plus also has a dual drive which helps the plastic be extruded in a smoother manner. Also, the earlier model included 50 pieces of filament while this one arrives with 75 pieces of filament.
In addition to my usual method of outlining stencils or meandering in a free-form manner, as reflected on the product illustrations I could work with greater control. For example, on slow speed I could work with greater certainty and consistency over a flat surface. With the Create model the strands are more likely to collapse onto themselves while with this model there is a finer level of control.
If unfamiliar with 3D pens, this is a device that requires unhurried practice to master but decent results can be obtained reasonably quickly. The range of possibilities is appealing and there is a wide array of colors and options in filament texture.
Different techniques can be incorporated to create different effects. In one video a soldering iron on low heat was used to remove bumps and spaces so the finish was solid and smooth. There are constraints within the medium but there is a feeling that almost anything desired can be formed.
Be prepared to stock-up on filament (this pen uses ABS, PLA and Flexy) because it is easy to go through quite a bit, particularly in the beginning. Included in the box are some clear mercifully brief instructions that are worth the few minutes it takes to read them. Also included are a few beginning projects, useful tools and the AC power adapter. Many more projects are available on the company’s website along with some jaw-dropping tutorials posted on the most popular video site. Everything required to start is in the box.
I really enjoyed the 3Doodler. My kids enjoyed it as well. We all like to draw and be creative, this takes the creativity to a whole new and different level. You lift your pen off the paper and go into the 3rd dimension...up! The 3Doodler is a bit more expensive than other brands, but I decided to purchase this because of the company's claim that their PLA and ABS plastic are non-toxic and do not contain harmful metals, that I would expect in cheaper plastic used by 3d printers. I own a 3d printer and the smell from its melting of the thinner and cheaper plastic is stronger, than when I used the 3Doodler plastic, especially since while doodling I am much closer to the plastic. So I am very happy customer and very impressed with the quality of the product, how it flows, and looks. I tried being a bit more innovative and built a 3d wireframe of an airplane. I liked it because it made my granddaughter happy on Thanksgiving afternoon. She had seen an earlier model and was pleased with how the Create+ model had been improved.
My granddaughter loved this. She was being creative with it all night. A lot of colors. It came fast and well packed.
