One of the best carry on suit cases on the market. I travel every 10 days to Europe and back to the U.S. and was looking for a carry on that functions as mobile office infrastructure while waiting for a connecting flight at an airport. I love the 2 USB chargers that allow me to charge my phone and iPad at the same time.
The design looks great and it's perfect size as carry on on all airlines worldwide. Some European low cost airlines are very restrictive with their hand luggage policies, but I was never running into any problems with my bluesmart.
Also the tracking option is very helpful. Two weeks ago I traveled to Rome and checked in my bluesmart suitcase. When I arrived at Fiumicino airport my bluesmart was not on the luggage belt. After 30min. I used the track function and noticed that it was still on the other side of the airport close to the gate where our airplane was parked. I went to the Alitalia lost luggage counter and showed them the bluesmart app and location where they lost my luggage. They sent someone and within 20min. my bluesmart and I were reunited.
I would like to refer to the review of Adam Lake. He is posting photos where he is trying to put big boots into the bluesmart suitcase to show that it is too small. Please allow me the following comment: The bluesmart suitcase is not made for adventure backpacking travel. It's made for business travel and people who want to be independent from airport or train chargers. I always pack one pair of running or dress shoes, 5-7 Italian shirts, underwear, socks, 1 pair of extra pants, and toiletries and my work out cloths (shorts and t-shirt) in my bluesmart and it fits perfectly - see photos below.
However if I wanted to go backpacking in Latin America, I would not travel with my bluesmart. I would leave my Italian dress shirts and elegant shoes at home and get hiking boots and a backpack.
The mission of the bluesmart suitcase is business travel. You don't need all these gadgets on a a hiking trip.
I am very happy that bluesmart seems to be the first company in the luggage space that is innovating and shaking the industry. Hope many others will follow. But VERY GOOD JOB BLUESMART team!!!!!
I ordered the Bluesmart after seeing it in the Houston airport. It definitely stands out and caught my eye, but not in a bad way (e.g. LV suitcase, super plasticly ballistic stuff, or full aluminum). It is on the smaller side, but I like that because I usually travel with a carry-on and a backpack (Timbuk2 Swig). With this setup I can travel on pretty much any long weekend trip – you just have to pack *smart* ;)
Here's what I like:
• Professional look. Not too flashy, not too boring. I feel fine taking this to work, vacation, travel around the city – no problem.
• Tough build. This case can certainly take a beating. Outside zippers are nice and secure too.
• Inside section dividers and zippers. This is a really cool feature! I can make sure my stuff is packed nice and tight and won't bounce around too much. This also comes in handy when I need to separate dirty clothing/shoes from my clean stuff.
• Laptop sleeve and protector. Perfect fit for my Macbook Air.
• Cool blue wheels, nice visual pop.
• Charging. Really helpful on longer trips with stops that aren't just airport/hotel/airport. Good for charging at friend's house too.
• Cloth and materials. The outer fabric, inside pockets, and inside lining is better than expected. I'm used to my Tum's synthetic, nylon feel. Nice little added benefit.
What I don't like:
• I would love a full-sized version for multi-week or month long trips. This definitely gets the job done for long weekends, but it's going to be a stretch after that.
• Fabric and wheels pick up general dust/dirt – or in my case, cat hair. I make sure to clean off the wheels every now and then, stupid cat ;)
• Haven't used the GPS yet or remote-locking. I just don't lock it or use the included keys to unlock. Also, I usually know where my carry-on is, so GPS hasn't been needed, but I like that the option is there in case it goes missing. Let's hope I don't have to.
Overall, I like the suitcase and feel it's a nice upgrade from my Tumi Tech.
Overall amazing experience with my Bluesmart bag!
Usability:
It’s perfect for travelers who are looking for a bag that enables them to be quick and efficient with their packing and trip (multiple pockets, pouches, and of course some technological perks). The charger alone is worth it! I’ve walked, cabbed, bussed, trained, and flown with my Bluesmart – it’s really easy to transport and carry around. The compartment for the laptop is amazing. Soft padding, multiple compartments, some with zippers, feels safer in there than in my briefcase. I’d say ideal use would be a week-long trip, particularly when there are transit and/or space issues involved. It’s the ideal carry-on for the frequent flier.
Features:
Quality: The quality of the bag is excellent, and love the sleek design. Lightweight (weighs about 10 pounds) yet durable, and feels modern. The materials and plastics all feel very sturdy and well made. Front pocket is perfect for a laptop, makes it easy to pull out at security (if not already TSA pre check of course).
Tech:
Charging: There are two charging ports, works great, (a solid charging cord is also included), and is a much needed feature – I find myself using it at some point on every single trip I take. The battery is 10,000 mAh, (the little amazon powerbanks are 2,000 for reference), solid amount of charging time.
Locking: Remote locking feature is cool, there’s a slight piece of mind there (2 keys are also included with the bag in the front pocket). The locking mechanism itself functions very well, there’s also a feature for it to auto-lock when you’re a certain distance away from the bag. TSA approved, nothing but love.
App: Haven’t gotten super into the app as of yet, but there are tons of stuff you can do here. Aside from locking, there’s also a distance alert feature (tells you if you’re leaving your bag behind), digital scale (you just pick up the handle and it tells you the weight), GPS location, and flight itineraries/alterts you can sync.
Customer service: The customer service was fantastic, completely seamless – arrived within 2 days of ordering, nice packaging, positive consumer experience.
All around a cool and innovative piece of luggage. Definitely looking forward to more products by Bluesmart!
As a frequent traveler who was in need of a luggage upgrade, I couldn’t be happier with my new Bluesmart carry on. It meets or exceeds all of the requirements of a standard carry on, and adds some truly revolutionary features. I’ve recently used the Bluesmart to fly to a wedding, train home for the holidays, and fly to a ski mountain, and I’m confident I will never use any bag or suitcase other than the Bluesmart for any other such trips ever again!
I first used the Bluesmart while flying from New York to the Midwest for a wedding. I was able to pack all me wedding attire – including dress shoes and a suit – very comfortably; no wrinkles! The Bluesmart fit easily into the overhead compartment and was very durable – no dings or scratches even after being banged around a fair bit. The Bluesmart really came in handy, though, on the trip home. After neglecting to charge my phone after getting back to the hotel late after the wedding reception, I had barely any charge left by the time I got through security at the airport. Instead of fighting for a (very scarce) outlet at the gate, I plugged my phone straight into the Bluesmart and recapped the previous night via text with my friends as my phone charged and I waited for my flight. I ended up having enough battery to get me through the flight and for the cab ride back to my apartment.
For my next trip with the Bluesmart, I brought it on the train with me for the trip home to Boston from New York for Christmas. I was able to pack some Christmas gifts as well as a long weekend’s worth of winter clothes with no issues. This time, the Bluesmart feature that was extra helpful was the easy access opening to the front pocket. I had slipped my 15 inch laptop into the front pocket with the expectation that I wouldn’t have to do any work on the train but that I’d need it over the weekend at my parents’ house. However, half way through the train ride I received an e-mail via phone that I had something that needed to be completed that night. Having to dig my laptop out of a traditional carry on would’ve been a nightmare; considering it was peak holiday travel time, the overhead storage space on the train was packed to the brim, and it would’ve been nearly impossible to open up a traditional carry on and dig out a computer. However, I simply unlocked the top compartment and slipped my laptop right out (see photo) without having to move the Bluesmart or any other traveler’s suitcase. The easy access front compartment is a unique feature that, as I can already attest to, will certainly come in handy for future business travel.
Finally, my most recent trip with the Bluesmart was a ski trip from New York to Jackson Hole. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to fit all my bulky ski clothing in the Bluesmart for the long weekend trip, but I was pleasantly surprised. I had more than enough room for multiple sweatshirts, sweatpants, beanies, and other associated snow gear (see photo). A cool feature that I haven’t seen on other carry ons that proved valuable was the zippered divider between the main compartment of the suitcase and the outer shell. I ended up packing a couple of swimsuits in this outer compartment (see photo) with the idea that they might still be a bit damp from the hot tub by the time I needed to pack for the return journey, and I didn’t want them to soak the rest of my gear. The divider successfully kept my clothes in the main compartment dry, and it made for a more pleasant unpacking and less laundry when I got home to New York.
Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased with the Bluesmart. It has surpassed my initial expectations and has significantly reduced the stress of travel. I highly recommend this product – 5 stars!
Owning a Bluesmart Carry-on Luggage is like being the only one with a knife & fork at a huge dinner party where everyone else only has a spoon.
Back in October of 2014, I ran across a tech blog post that highlighted an idea of a product I not only wanted, I needed, to which compelled me to finally jump on the fundraising bandwagon. I'd only just heard of the successes and nightmares that are even more prevalent now, of startups looking for initial capital to make their idea a reality. This smart luggage concept was the first that spurred me to really look into not only how an online fundraiser works, it also made me realize the benefits of being an early supporter. As someone who travels frequently for both work and pleasure, discovering Bluesmart and their dream to develop a smart carry-on, compelled me to invest in a group of like-minded people who wanted to create something I knew I had an actual need for. I can honestly say, I didn't even hesitate to support this idea of a smart carry-on. Wasn't even worried that I might be gambling my money away. If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have none at all, so after 13 months of seeing this idea grow, become an actual real thing, I received one of the first Bluesmart shipments in Canada. In my profession, attention to detail is everything, and throughout all of the unboxing, initial setup and presentation, I knew the passion I initially felt from Bluesmart at the beginning of their fundraising, had carried thru the whole process. As it had been shipped to my office, both myself and coworkers were very unproductive for the next hour after receiving it. Even tho I had told them about it, showed them the videos, once they saw it for real, they all expressed how they either wished they'd been a supporter, or that they wanted one.
The entire package just feels like the future of travel is here and it's a good thing! From the cool wheels to the self-weighing (thru the free app) handle, you know this carry-on will both turn heads and make you want to travel even more. The outer shell is incredibly tough and lightweight. Zippers, seams, trim and style all show signs of quality that have already proved to handle the stress of travel. Specific padded pockets and quick access for both my MacBook and iPad make it a breeze to fill up my bins in security. The USB port in that front pocket has already been used to charge up the iPad too. The interior is brilliantly designed to accommodate the battery pack yet still give you plenty of space for all your gear.
Having the TSA Approved little red logo right by the electronic lock certainly helped the first time security in my town saw it. The battery pack defiantly raised a big flag, tho after seeing the little red logo, and a brief explanation from me that they had better get used to seeing more of these smart carry-ons, whilst un-zipping everything to show them the battery pack the X-Ray Tech said "Very Cool. How much?"
The free app is absolutely required. Available across all platforms, tho I've only used the iOS version. One does not own a Smart Carry-on and not utilize all of it's awesome features! If only just to be able to lock and unlock it in front of people! The fact it's Bluetooth linked to your phone and will automatically lock if you get to far away is brilliant! Here's where I do have some reservations over the features, tho updates in the future will likely alleviate my concerns. The Bluesmart battery indicator within the app is pretty vague. Rather than indicate an actual percentage or how much time you have left, your only given a generic icon. Also, the weight function should be used a couple of times and use the average. A hangover is not recommended as any body movement will alter your results. Also, depending on the altitude of your location, the variance in weight could be the difference in paying extra. I live at about 3500ft and it weighs less here than at sea level.
The Bluesmart also has built-in GPS and thru the app, you can see where it is should you ever get separated. UBER will even bring it to you for free should you be so lucky.
Overall, the Bluesmart Carry-on is a solid piece of luggage with some much needed 'smarts' for todays frequent traveler. It's the first big step in the evolution of travel that has not seen such innovation in decades. A 'Must-Have' for the traveler who's always 'Connected'. I have faith the App will grow just as I saw the idea.
Thank you Bluesmart for your contribution in making me remember that it's all about the journey than the destination.

Beautiful, functional luggage for 2-3 night stays!
I travel every couple of weeks for work and needed a good quality carry-on that can hold my laptop. I struggle to keep all of my various devices charged since I'm always working on the go, so a bag with a charger seemed like a great fix. I'm also a designer, so the look of it was important to me. The Bluesmart bag meets all of those requirements. It's definitely smaller than my previous carry-on (see the photo), but I was using that one for weeklong trips and a few airlines made me check it when it was fully loaded. So, I was looking for something that I knew would meet all of the restrictions. The Bluesmart does and it seems to work really well for a shorter 2-3 night stint. I think it's better to keep things light and efficient so I can get in and out of the airport as fast as possible. I was also super excited about the built-in scale feature. It seems to be a little inconsistent with its readings so far, but it's not too big of a problem since the suitcase is smaller and hard to overpack, soI haven't gone over any weight limits. I'm hoping they get that dialed in and release a checked bag version as well! Overall, I'm super happy with it. Definitely a step up in terms of form and function from what I was using before.
I’ve had a remarkable time with this bag. It is a machine of poise for short trips and comes loaded with features specifically tuned for business travel.
My first trip with Bluesmart was a two day flight to Seattle from San Francisco.
Packing: The capacity of the bag is pretty optimal for short trips. While it won’t fit a week’s worth of clothes, I had no trouble loading what I needed into the main compartment. I packed a tablet, notebook, and laptop into the external pocket and filled the inner lining with my various odds and ends for freshening up at the hotel. The bag is very light to begin with, and loading it up with only essentials kept the weight very manageable.
Airport: Admittedly, I was skeptical about the charging functionality at first — I have made it this far with airport outlets. But there’s a lot to be said about the way having your own charging station makes you feel in a terminal. Outlets vary between gates, but I had the distinct pleasure of not even checking where they were. I sat by the window (my favorite place to be) and kept my phone charging when I stepped over to get coffee.
Hotel: I didn’t spend much time at the hotel, so I was thankful to have my things in an accessible place. The battery in the bag lasts quite a while (10000 mAh or about 6 full charges), so I continued using it at the hotel if only to keep the momentum.
The Bluesmart bag fills a specific use case very well. I would expect to get value out of the airport experience on any trip, but the collection of features really perform on trips like my Seattle flight. The capacity, locks, size, weight, build quality, tracking, and even the look all come together marvelously.
Shipping was fast, packaging is great, and I’m persuaded that any business traveler (or tech enthusiast) will really resonate with what Bluesmart has to offer.
I'm probably rating this one star more than it deserves , I love the idea of it , but charging suitcase is inconsistent
and as far as claim to what you can charge and how many times is way off , will only charge my
phone to about 85% then it starts taking power back ?? ...but I love the lights and the smart
phone app , lock , weighing feature, etc..etc..I received such good deal on bluesmart I shouldn't
be complaining, but I have my doubts as to how long the battery will continue to charge..we'll see.
Overall, I'm very happy with my BlueSmart. It makes a great carry-on for a quick weekend trip with all the conveniences I need to make a more enjoyable experience at the airport.
The Bag Itself - Design + Functionality
The bag overall is sturdy and uses quality materials throughout. One of my pet peeves is cheap zippers so I love that these are sturdy and well designed, even covered nicely with fabric which avoids rubbing my hands up against the zipper teeth and gives the bag a better look. The wheels are similarly well designed and provide easy movement in all directions.
My favorite part of the bag is the front pocket. It is very convenient with quick access to my laptop -- a huge upgrade from the struggles of pulling my laptop out of my old bag while going through security. The laptop pocket is nicely padded and holds my 15" MacBook Pro comfortably. There are several other easy access pockets for storing passports, keys, bags for liquids, etc. I also love the magnetic closure that the pocket has, feels very secure. My only gripe with the front pocket is that it's a bit too deep for my desires. If it were half the depth, it would be easier to pull out magazines or a book from the pocket while in flight.
The inside runs smaller than my previous bag but has plenty of space for a quick weekend trip or as a carry-on for the essentials when checking a bag -- I always assume my checked-in bag will be lost and bring a day or two worth of clothes and toiletries in a carry-on just in case, this bag is perfect for that.
The Technology
The integrated technology is clearly what separates this bag from the rest. I love all the bells and whistles this bag comes with. Don't expect them to change your entire life but they make the airport experience all the more friendly. The built-in charger is my favorite. It has 2 usb ports, one inside the front pocket that makes charging devices stored inside easy and one outside for charging while you're at the airport. No more hunting down an outlet and digging through my bag for the cord.
The built in scale in the handle is nice. It's not absolutely necessary in this bag since I mostly use a bag this size for carry-on but when I do need it, it's far more convenient than the alternative ways of weighing a bag or just hoping I don't go over.
Overall, I am a big fan of this bag. It makes a good bag for short trips or as a carry-on to pair with a checked bag. The bag seems durable and provides the conveniences to make the trip through the airport a bit more friendly.
I recently purchased this Bluesmart suitcase for my husband and I to use. We both love it and plan on using it for short trips as a carry-on suitcase.
My husband wrote this review from his experience:
"We bought this luggage to primarily use for my business travel and short trips. I will probably be using it more often then my wife since she usually packs a lot more when we travel. It is a sleek and well-designed carry-on suitcase designed for a short 2-3 day trip. At first glance, I was impressed with the design and overall look and quality of the materials. I also really like the ability to store my laptop and other items in the main compartment that is protected by a zippable flap that contains a mesh compartment in the lid to protect the computer. When I traveled in the past, I always used my Samsonite Winfield 2 Fashion 20-Inch, as well as my laptop leather bag. Now that I have a Bluesmart, I am really excited to just take one piece of luggage that fits all of my clothes, shoes, laptop, tablet, and toiletries. As you can tell in the pictures, I was able to fit a pair of jeans, slacks, t-shirts, dress shirts, polo, gym shorts, couple pairs of socks, underwear, dress shoes and a toiletry kit. There is even extra room at the bottom of the top compartment where the laptop fits to store smaller items such as socks, your airplane ticket or a thin book/magazine.
I also really like the technology features which are a great bonus compared to my other carry-on suitcases. First you have to charge the battery in the luggage before using it. There are 2 USB ports to charge your smart phone (website states that you can charge an iPhone 6x) therefore; you don’t need to find a seat near an outlet which makes this a great work station. You can even charge your computer while in the bag as there is a USB port in the same location! This is one of the best features as I sometimes forget to charge my phone and am always looking for an outlet. In addition, the app was very easy to dowload and use as it contains a location tracking option via GPS in case you happen to lose your bag, you have the ability to weigh your luggage using scale in the handle, and the best part is that you can lock and unlock your bag from your phone. The bag actually locks when you walk away which is a nice security feature.
Overall, this piece of luggage contains some innovative features that allow for a more efficient travel experience. Given that Bluesmart is still relatively new in the market place, I am really excited to see what the company does next especially with enhancements to their app and other technology! I would definitely recommend this product to our friends, families and business travelers who travel light and are looking for a cool high-tech carry-on luggage! I hope they will also offer a larger version for check-in luggage in the near future!" - JS
