Tulip 20403 Soft Fabric Paint 4oz Matte Glacier White

This was purchased for a cosplay I wore earlier this month and overall, I think it did a decent job at the task I had for it (which was painting on a black body suit to resemble a character's clothing) but there are a few complaints.

So, what are the positives? It performs well as a fabric paint, I haven't noticed any of the paint washing off or fading or anything like that, and like the bottle states, it dries pretty soft and flexible! But, there are some things to keep in mind.

First of all, this paint is able to dry softly because it's very runny and isn't the most opaque of paints. When using it, it's an absolute that there is a barrier behind the surface it's being put on because it can soak through fabric; I painted it onto a cotton/nylon bodysuit and it basically bled straight through to the other side. Also, if you want a truly opaque color payoff (as in a truly solid white shape with none of the fabric's color showing) with whatever you paint, you have to apply several layers of paint. I think this stuff works best if you want to be able to build up the coverage or use the fabric's color to create a certain effect with the paint.

Also, this stuff says "matte" and compared to the "slick" version, this does qualify as matte in that it doesn't look wet/shiny in the light and tends to not lay upon the fabric as heavily or allow for it to be as dimensional, but the color glacier is not 100% matte either. It is full of tiny, tiny bits of glitter that kind of give the paint a shimmery effect in some cases (which is probably why it's called "glacier." It resembles the sparkle of snow). It's not super noticeable, but the glitter is there and can be seen in certain lighting, especially if you do lighter coats of paint (the more layers you apply, the less prominent the glitter is, but a light layer on dark fabric is noticeable).

I think for most people's needs, this paint will do just fine. I personally did not find this particular type of paint to be the End All Be All for my project, since I had very large areas to cover with totally opaque shapes, but I suppose I should have realized that the "soft" version of the paint would be more runny and light in coverage in order to allow it to dry so soft. I don't fault the paint so much as I fault myself for expecting it to cover solid black fabric perfectly in one go, as if it were thick oil paint on a canvas, while still being super soft and flexible.

The price is a little much, but unless you're covering a lot of area in a lot of layers, this bottle should last for several projects! There is a smell to the paint, as well, but it's not especially strong or unpleasant (just kind of smells like paint, you know?) and I wouldn't say it would warrant an open window or masks or anything.

I have jeans (Wallflower brand) that are several years old that originally were "glitter" appearing. Over the years of washing and wearing the glitter had worn off, and they no longer offer the glitter jeans. I used one bottle of the fabric paint per each pair of jeans and it worked just as I wanted. Wait 48 hours before washing, and wash alone, or you wind up with a little glitter on the other items. Love it!

This paint shows up so well on black fabric! A little goes a long way, and it's very smooth and easy to apply. I definitely feel like I will get my money's worth!

I had to hide some markings that wouldn't come out of a quilt that was almost done. This product is great, as in when I finished painting it over the marks I wanted to hide, there wasn't any way you could tell the paint was even there! Saved a great deal of time and much money, as this was a custom made, custom quilted bedspread I made for my home business.

When i first opened this package I was shocked because the paint looked like a hot pink in the bottle. I was going to send it back. But I shook it up really well and then tested it. it goes on a very dark hot pinkish color but dries a deep red. I used it to create a bloody/murder scene for my boyfriend bathroom. Perfect color for blood.

I have a very little concept of size/mass, so the size of this bottle of paint shocked me. I painted half of the back side of a men's XXL red hoodie, and the color was just right. A little product went a long way, and I still have some left in the bottle should I ever need to touch it up! I also ordered a 4oz bottle of the black matte paint ("Ebony") and it worked just as well!

Fantastic. I starting using these paints in conjunction with freezer paper to make my daughter's handmedowns more entertaining, and then I ended up GEEKIFYING ALL THE THINGS. My kid is now rocking a Dragon Age Inquisition dress, plants vs. zombies sweatshirt/tshirts, skull kitties, robots, jack skellington pants and a Firefly tshirt; you name it. It is literally dependent only on how much patience you have for cutting out complicated stencils and ironing all the little bits in the right places... and then maybe mixing colors to get shading and adding a few sharpie laundry marker lines. Still, everyone in the house and several good friends and their children are now sporting designs ranging from very simple shapes to designs that took two or three stencils and a lot of swearing to get right. They've held up through washes and rough play AND drying with minimal cracking. I came back just now to buy some more colors and thought I'd share. :)

Of note, if you find that you're getting some bleed through, stick an open coloring book (or cardboard from the amazon box, I guess, but the coloring book works better) inside the garment to soak it up. Actually, do that anyway, since some fabrics (LIKE ONESIES) bleed through more than others.

I bought this along with stencils to spell out titles on tank tops for my daughters bachelorette party. It will work great and it is just the right color of gold that I was looking for.

I purchased this paint to use on a Jack Skellington costume this past Halloween. I pin striped a jacket for my 7 year old son with it. It had good coverage and has not cracked or peeled even though the costume piece has gotten a lot of wear... The kids use their costumes until they bust or are outgrown.

Easy to use, dries faster than I expected, and looks amazing!
