I am a night shift nurse in home care. I needed a portable light to read and chart by, and to use to check the client and to prepare medications and treatments by. I have had this lantern for almost six months, it travels back and forth all over the place, gets banged up, dropped, and keeps working great. I have not had to baby it at all. The stand has held up too, and the lamp easily detaches if needed. The button to turn it on and adjust the settings is easy to use and is sturdy. The medium setting keeps the light bright enough for me to read by the entire night. It is a nice soft light, easy on the eyes, but plenty bright enough. I can direct the light so it doesn't bother the client.
I received this lamp in the middle of winter, and I live in the rainy dark Pacific Northwest, so charging it in the sunlight wasn't an option. However it charges up nicely when I hang it a few inches away from an electric light bulb (checked to make sure it wasn't too close to burn it). No batteries, hooray! It is easy to tell when it is charged with the rapid pulsing. The few times I was able to charge it in the sun it charged up even faster.
I am going to order another one as a backup. It is a bargain for this price. And no, I am not compensated in any way whatsoever for this review. I just like this lamp so much I just wanted to help others who are looking for such an item. And to give major kudos to Greenlight Planet for producing something this useful, safe and practical for use around the entire world.
Update: I have been using this lamp for over a year and a half now, and ordered two more. One was destroyed by my mistake, I hung it too close to a bulb and it melted! And it won't charge with an LED light bulb but only the incandescent old fashioned light bulb (hence the heat and melting), so I keep one incandescent lamp in my home for charging purposes. I work 50 hours a week and only charge it once or twice a week (and probably could even less but I'm cautious). I keep the other as a backup, but have never needed it. Of the two I have left, one takes two instead of one click of the button to turn on, but other than that, they both still work great, and I really beat them up, schlepping them around in my bag. They have so improved the quality of my work life.
The real deal. Third solar lantern I've purchased I this price range. The others dimmed in comparison, by a large margin. Amazing how when you're trying to help the developing world versus just selling to affluent campers, your product actually delivers. I've done multiple tests at home based on a day of Minnesota spring sun and it burned for many hours. It actually surprised me by going more than six hours on high but I figured out it switches from high to low when the battery gets low. Smart feature.
The two I have both give a good, workable light at the "high" beam, and adequate use lighting at the two "lower" beams. I am pleased with this product! These lights also, as advertised, keep a very good charge from the solar panels on the back: we only use them mostly on full beam for reading. One light was not used for 3 weeks but worked as though it were plugged in lamp.
I have three different Sun King solar lights and love them all, but the Pico is my favorite because it has a built in charging panel. Makes a unique gift. Great flashlight, perfect reading light, lasts for hours, kids love them and they will charge sitting on a windowsill. NO BATTERIES. One of my favorite things ever.
Had it for about 6 weeks. Feels like a good quality and solid sturdy thing, when you hold it. Looks contemporary kind of cool on a night stand, plus alarm clock fits right in the middle of its metal stand! Has 3 settings for brightness. Will give enough light for 1-2 people to read, in close proximity, so it is kinda a small thingy. Metal stand comes off, and it has some kind of a build in connector, so you can hang it, if needed. Charges fast in our lousy upstate NY sun, and holds charge well: lasts 3-5 days with a moderate use. Great thing to remind kids of the natural resources.

I love this so much that I bought three--two as gifts and one for ourselves. It's an excellent, larger night light for my father when he gets up during he night to go to the toilet. Since it's on low beam 12 hours a night, I charge it every 4-5 days. Saves on electricity, better than a regular night light since the latter is too dim. We prefer this Pico portable solar lantern. Charging is no problem and easy when there is lots of sun. Winter will be the big test.
After a couple years with one, I bought a second, to always have one charged. Midwest winters can go for days without sunshine. The stand is stable, or can be used to hang it, like when charging in the window. I use it as a reading light in bed. Has 3 brightness settings. Reliable, sturdy and lightweight.
