Pure Fix Original Fixed Gear Single Speed Fixie Bike

Just got it in. Ordered on Saturday and arrived on Monday. Having read an insane amount of reviews from folks who have forgotten more about bikes than I have ever known I can only conclude that at 345 this is a good/decent value. As the professionals who assembled it said, "This is a very simple bike". Simple is what I was looking for with commutes (15 miles roundtrip on moderate/flat grade; bikepath mostly). I am a VERY heavy rider at 245/6'0" (weightlifter/big guy) and have had difficulties in the past with high end gear sets (xt/xtr) and thought that simple might take some of that go away, not to diss Shimano it might have been a maintenance issue on my end. On the vanity side this is a great looking bike that I will mar with a big ass rear basket for groceries and a front/rear light. I will post further, however, the first couple miles have been great.

update: 4/4/16
Soooo....been a very mixed bag. On the positive side EVERYONE at PureFix has been kind and very easy to deal with. On the downside, I have less than 20 miles on the bike and the following occurred; pedal stripped out ruining the crankarm (pretty easy replacement) and the freewheel from the get-go has a noticeable "clicking" issue that got worse with use. I had my local shop (shout out to Basalt Bike and Ski, El Jebel CO) assemble ($60) and will probably be on the hook for their time on repairs. PureFix has stated that they would send parts, so hopefully this will be the end of it. These, at the end of the day, are repairs I could have done for myself and am choosing to have pros do this because I like the shop and I want my warranty (parts) terms honored. Will continue to post as the saga continues.

Very easy to put together. Quality is evident. Great starter fixed gear. I didn't find any tools in the box though so keep that in mind if you don't have any bike tools. All you really need are 3 different sized allen wrench/he key and a socket set. (Phillips head if you want to replace the reflectors). Came assembled as a single-gear. Switching from single gear to fixed gear is simple, but definitely take care of it before you start your ride. Solid build. Just make sure you get all the additional things you might need like lights (although it comes with reflectors, lights are much safer and better/why not both), air pump, bike lube. And I'd suggest pedal straps if you're planning on riding fixed gear. The bike is also easy to customize and switch out parts. For a practical add-on, I'd suggest a small saddle bag with patches and tools. If at any point during the build you are not sure how to do something though, take it to your local bike shop. They'll have it running smoother than a baby's bottom. But I doubt you'll have trouble since it is such a simple bike, mechanically speaking (which is also an added bonus for repairs)

I love this bike! After getting a great price on a returned item from “warehouse” I’ve Been using for 8 months commuting occasionally and riding recreationally. It’s great to ride around town as you don’t need to worry about an expensive bike getting stolen or having to remove quick release wheels etc every time you park it.
I also take it on some medium distance rides (30 mi or so) instead of my geared road bike. Single speed is good for building up leg strength!

Tires are comfortable! I carry a spare tube, tire removal forks and a 14mm wrench in case of a flat but have not needed to use it yet.

Frame is much more comfortable than aluminum, it’s similar to my carbon frame (comfort wise).
Seat is horrible! I would replace this immediately (I got a “rockbros“ black seat which looks and feels much better than the original for about $20 ish)

After riding the first 50mi I recommend to tighten up all the bolts, including the crank, as everything got a little creaky. Since the initial run-in everything has been good!
Component quality is good for the price, but there is a clear difference in quality comparing against name brand items.

I added some pure fix bullhorn bars and find them very comfortable, the original bars were a bit too narrow for me.

The pure fix was a little more expensive than similar single speeds on Amazon, but I’m glad I got the steel frame. Quality does feel a little better than a few of the other options I have seen in the $200-$300 range. 1 Star was removed for the terrible seat... everything else great!

Just assembled it myself today. Super easy! Comes about 90% done for you. All you need to do is install the seat, handle bars, pedals, and front wheel. I think it took me longer to unbox it than it did to assemble it! Which means it came packaged very well. Everything is wrapped and protected. After assembly, took it on a short test ride. So far feels really solid. Looks beautiful and the seat is very comfortable for a cheap bike. Feels more comfortable than my road bike seat! The gearing is set up really nice. Gets you to a nice cruising speed! Also is surprisingly lite. Expected it to be heavier especially for how solid it feels when ridding it. My buddy has a 6KU track fixie, and the pure fix feels way more solid and more comfortable for a commuter/puts around town bike. His 6KU is set up more like a road bike and rides a lot more harsh. Not sure if all of pure fix cycles come this way. But the Thickslicks are amazing, good looking and ride really soft. Only issues I had was that it take a bit to tweak to get set up to your liking. Also pretty sure somethings in side the tire/tube. I can hear something rattling around inside both wheels.

Overall would recommend!

Bike came super fast and the frame seems very sturdy. However, the brakes are TERRIBLE. Honestly it's halfway dangerous. I've adjusted mine 4 times and I still deaccelerate very slowly. The tires also seem a little cheap but so far they have held up so I can't say anything about them. Overall the bike seems great quality for the price. Rides smooth and the design is beautiful.

Assembly was actually easier than I initially thought. The first 30 seconds of the tutorial video he sites all these tools you need (most of which where specific to the bike mechanic and not everyday tools). I thought I was going to need to take to a shop but quickly realized you can put this together with everyday tools. The specific bike tools probably just make it easier. Overall very pleased with purchase, however, the price point is about hundred dollars cheaper than depicted because tires and brakes seem to be something that will quickly need an upgrade. None the less I'm happy with the purchase.

I absolutely love this bike! I am 4'11", and got the 43cm x-ray, fits me perfect. XXS/43cm/micro comes with both front AND rear brakes, other sizes is equipped with front brake only. Packaging was a little disappointing, there were a few minor scratches on the wheel, from parts rubbing together during shipping I presume, hence the 4 stars. Bike was mostly assembled, I just had to attach handle, saddle, pedals, wheels, and make adjustment to the brakes.

Update 8/27/2016 I love love love my pure fix! I've been riding it for over a month now, and am surprised at how fast it can go, considering it's a single speed! I'm able to keep up with traffic on busy city streets. Uphill is a breeze as well. The scratches don't bother me anymore, they're barely noticeable.

Arrived in a large but rather light box. Everything was neatly packaged and thoroughly wrapped in protective foam. Be aware that it DOES NOT come with tools for assembly so be prepared. Allen keys, wrenches, and a PRESTA pump lying around will speed things up.
I assembled the bike in a matter of minutes and was on the road testing it out. So far the Hi-ten steel frame though heavy, carries a lot of momentum when it rolls. The brakes bite nice enough and the Thickslick tires does their thing gripping road of different grades. The seat though was super uncomfortable and switched it out immediately - the hard leather saddle was heavy and offered zero support.
For the price and convenience, this bike does the trick. I bought this bike knowing that it would replace my worn down commuter bike without the fuss, and it definitely delivers a smooth, simple ride.

Pure Fix Oscar. Several years ago, I received a copy of Fixed: Global Fixed-Gear Bike Culture and drooled over fixed gear bikes. A co-worker sometimes commuted on a fixie and I started leaving my bike in a single gear all the way home at times, thinking about converting to fixed gear. I never took the plunge.

In recent times, I have biked or Trikked to the gym whenever possible. It is straight and flat. I seldom shift on my bike and can't shift on the Trikke. When the LBS declared my beater bike kaput, I thought about converting it to fixed gear. But after looking at conversion kits, I decided it would be cheaper and easier to just buy a new bike. I happened into a Pure Fix Oscar.

This solid bike looks as good as some of the bikes in the book. The frame is heavier than my old aluminum bike, but it is well built and rides well. It reminds me of my first commuter bike, a converted mountain bike that I had for decades and put thousands of miles on.

One of the tubes on the PF had or developed a pinhole out of the box and I had to replace it. Unfortunately, the replacement tube was also defective and burst while I was adjusting the kickstand. The third tube has held up OK, so I am glad it is not a wheel defect causing the leaks.

The components are of surprisingly good quality. I thought I would replace more parts but have ended up keeping a lot. I did put on a trekking bar, kickstand, rear rack, and my old saddle. This bike is made to be customized. It is not a beater bike, but more like a bling bike that can take some beating.

This entire bike is a huge bang for your buck. But like other people have recommended: get new tires RIGHT NOW. I've had this bike for less than a month and just got my first flat today and I ride very clean, very paved roads. I barely take this thing anywhere else, I can't imagine what city riding would have done. For your safety and also to save you some frustration after getting a new bike: get new tires. Don't even ride this until you get some new ones on because you WILL get a flat and fast.

And lastly, a note to all of you first time fixie buyers: Don't assemble this bike yourself. I know George makes it look just fine and dandy on Youtube but there's a little more to it. Take it to a bike shop and get it put together, no matter how bad you want to ride this baby. I actually put my pedal on wrong and stripped out the crank, forcing me to go to the shop and wait two weeks for a new one to be ordered. So yeah, you might think you put it together the right way, but two days later your pedal falls off and you're down a whole bike. That being said, the bike is excellent. It's on the heavy side for a road bike but I like the weight of it nonetheless, I'm not a weight nazi so I'm not too concerned about how heavy my bike is. The 44/16 ratio will be extremely difficult to skid stop on, you have to be a pro to even do one still sitting in your seat, so don't think you'll be skidding on this right away. Run a front brake and don't be ashamed, no brakes are for the velodrome. A+ bike purefix! Not only do I get a lot of compliments on my bike, but I might have sent you a few customers. Will continue to recommend, just switch out those tires!

you will probably need to change out some stuff. the seat is very curved and narrow, about 130mm. i dont know anyone that this sit bones that this would be meant for. my wife is 5'3" and that was too narrow for her too. the gearing is very optimistic unless you live in a very flat area. i live in austin tx, and 44/16 was way too much. i got a 20t freewheel to allow me to climb the modest hills here at any reasonable speeds. now its about 14-15mph at 80 cadence or rpm which is a good cruising speed unless you like to get after it. if you want to cruise around and you are not a "cyclist" then you will need to change the freewheel and chain, which requires a chain tool and freewheel wrench. there is no rear brake so do not go fast at all until you get one. the geometry on "fixies" is super generic so on the large sizes expect lots of toe and tire overlap. the weight distribution is really far back so if you want it to be stable at higher speeds then you will need bullbars and you will also need to move the seat way forward to get some weight on the front.

all that being said, i really like the bike. it is way cheap compared to a "road bike" and looks sick. its fairly light for a steel frame, 27 lbs for a 64cm. a single speed is a totally different experience than multispeed bikes. road bikes have paperweight tire that get flats a lot, this bikes tires are really tough. you can ride on unimproved shoulders and walking trails with no problems. its not a mountain bike but it is not delicate at all. if you change the gearing to something appropriate for your area then you'll be fine, but that means more money.
