Kinsa Smart Ear Thermometer for Fever - Accurate, Fast, FDA Cleared Thermometer - Best Digital Medical Children, Kid, Adult and Baby Termometro - Sesame Street

I did not buy this on Amazon, bought at Target as part of a promotion but I wanted to leave a review as I find them useful when buying items.

I have two kids under 2, one with chronic and severe health issues and he gets frequent fevers so I'm picky about themometers and take my sons temp frequently. My gold standard is rectal temps since that's what my pedi wants when I call with issues and I haven't found any themometers that come close to giving me an accurate temp when compared with a rectal temp. I have a forehead scanner one and that will often show NO fever on my son when his rectal temp is close to 105! The armpit ones take far too long and I have returned three other ear themometers for not being even close to his rectal temps

I can say that this themometer, so far (had it a week now and both kids are battling viruses) is always within .2 of their rectal temps. For example, my sons rectal temp was 102.6 and this read 102.4. I haven't had it ever read more than a .5 difference so it's a winner in my book and super quick

**update** now that I have had this almost two months I wanted to update. I still find it to be accurate within .4-.5 of their rectal temps with the exception of my daughter. She is only a year and has a very small ear canal so you do need to follow the directions and hold the ear and pull it back gently but I still find it is a bit off (maybe like .6 or .7 but often it is while she is sleeping and I'm not gonna wake her to take a second temp, I just add it). For everyone else, my 3yo included, I find it better than other ones I have used like the Braun, the exergen and Vicks (but I LOVE the Vicks rectal). Two months in and I still think it's the most accurate nonrectal thermometer for small kids and obviously adults :-)

I bought this to try it out. I love my Fitbit and Qardio trackers, so why not apply the same principles to illnesses the family gets. We've always kept paper notes when the kids got sick recording their temperatures and the times they got anti-fever medications. It's important to give those on the proper schedule so as not to give too much.

The thermometer itself was very easy to set up. Download the app and turn on the thermometer (after putting in two AAA batteries). Pair as you would any other bluetooth device. It went without a hitch.

The app prompts you to set up profiles for whomever you'd be taking temperatures. It can record names, age and gender. Once created, the profile stores all sorts of data on a timeline window that records all the events it tracks: reminders (i.e., to give the next dose of a medication), medications given (including doses), symptoms, temperatures, diagnoses given, photos and notes.

After taking a temperature by pressing the big white button, it displays on the thermometer screen and the app's display. It's automatically added to the timeline. It also gives its interpretation of the temp. When it records a temp it asks you if you're having any symptoms at the time to record that as well. Presumably, you took the temperature because someone wasn't feeling well.

The app also includes several resources including hints on how to soothe symptoms and details on common illnesses (which it tailors based on age ranges). Playing with the app, I claimed a 5-month old had body aches and it correctly but politely told me that one usually cannot tell if babies have body aches since they cannot talk, but they may be cranky signifying the aches. There's also a page with health related coupons and health related news which appears to be pulled from a Twitter feed. The app can also provide some dosing guidelines.

All in all, I didn't know what to expect with a bluetooth thermometer with associated app, but I find the tracking on the timeline very helpful and displayed well.

AMAZING! Do you need it? Probably not. Any simple thermometer will do. But when you have a fussy baby who can’t take an oral temp, won’t tolerate an axillary temp, let alone a rectal temp, this thing is FAST and accurate. I’m so impressed. Secondly, the fun Elmo design is more appealing for kids; they’ll be less likely to push away from a friendly design!
Lastly, the kinsa app is so impressive! I love that we can add different profiles for different children, keep a log of the temps AND log symptoms and diagnoses. As a nurse, I find this so much more comforting to be able to effectively track the progression of my baby’s illnesses.

Necessary? Probably not. But definitely worth the buy.

I wasn't sure that having another thermometer would be useful since the one we have works, but I love all the extra benefits of the tracking that the Kinsa Digital Smart Ear Thermometer has that a regular thermometer does not. All the instructions were easy to follow. I love that the batteries were included. It took less than 10 minutes for me to set up and take my child's temperature.

We haven't had to use this for any illnesses so, besides the normal temperature that my kiddo has, I can only say it is accurate for this experience. I love that the thermometer is synced/connected directly to the app so that the information is stored and I don't have to recall from memory when something happened or the last time a dose of medication was given to a child. I could easily show a doctor a record of how my child has been doing since there is a history documented.

This is the best thermometer my family has ever owned!

It literally takes one second to register an accurate temperature, which is great for sick kids. It's compact (so much smaller than the Braun thermometer we used to have) and comfortable (which is great when your child has sore ears). It's very simple to use and the readout is immediate.

I think the coolest feature is the integrated smartphone Kinsa app. It's simple to register your family members into the app. The thermometer Bluetooths the reading right to your phone instantaneously. The app "talks" you through symptoms and recommendations until you can get to a doctor to share the information for professional diagnosis and treatment.

We are most definitely a Kinsa family from now on. It's the high tech family health tool I didn't know we had been missing, but now can't live without.

Our daughter had the flu over the weekend so we have had ample opportunity to use this. Each time we took her temperature we also took our own as a way to validate the results for accuracy (she was burning up, we were not).

We have not had a need to use the app so I can't speak to that but the use of the thermometer itself is so simple and straightforward. I am so thankful I went with this one because it was so easy to use on our very fussy baby.

While accurate enough and comfortable enough for what you are using it for, namely keeping up with your family's general health, if you are use to doing things like double, triple, and quadruple checking a reading, you will want a dummy account to put the extra temp readings you record. For example, we have one for mommy, one for daddy, one for daughter, and one for "junk." That way Freya can even play with it and those recordings can be put into the "junk" file, otherwise just sitting there until downloaded into your App and no way to delete them without first downloading them.

I dragged my feet for a while before replacing my tried-and-true thermometer at home. Some reviews suggested that the accuracy of the Kinsa products might not be that great. But I tested this side by side with my own thermometer and haven't looked back since starting to use it. It was especially helpful for tracking the progression fevers during flu season. No more struggling to remember temperatures for the doctor or looking for post-its to jot the info down. Now it's all in the app.

Guys, I don’t think I’ve been more satisfied with a thermometer before. We bought this to be able to have a new accurate thermometer for when the new baby comes but it connects to your phone, you have profiles for everyone in your house, and it keeps track of everything. I just used it on My son and I just playing around and it worked great. My temp was a little low 97.3, so it had me retake it to verify accuracy and then asked me if I had any symptoms, it tracks your symptoms and puts it all in with a time stamp.

My daughter loves to take her temperature as well as mine. She uses this thermometer with ease and can tell me if I have a fever or not. It's tied into my phone's app using bluetooth. So, it makes it so easy to keep track of how her temperature has been tracking/trending over the past few hours, days. I've taken the device to the dr to show them even. It has been so helpful. I haven't changed the batteries since I received the device and that has been over 2 years ago. It's super light weight and durable. I'd definitely suggest this for anyone in need of a thermometer, but just a parent.
