reCAP Mason Jars Fermentation: Waterless Airlock + Stopper, 3-pack (POUR Cap Not Included)

I use these for fermenting by adding a bung (stopper) and an airlock to the top of a mason jar. I have a terrible time trying to get them on the jars as they don't seem to have proper threading or threads that easily grab the threading on the jar. Once I get them on, they are great. It makes the perfect setup for fermenting kimchee or sauerkraut. Getting them off is another issue. My husband disappeared to the garage with one we were having trouble removing so I am not sure what tool he had to use, but he eventually got it removed. Maybe reCAP 2.0 will have better threading. I would try again as I don't find the plastic to be flimsy in the least. I can't comment on actually using it to drink beverages as I don't use it for that purpose.

I'm using these for beverage fermentations. I'm currently conducting a short mead & cider yeast trial - each half gallon mason jar is topped with a wide-mouth reCAP, a #5.5 stopper & an air lock. I capped 14 different mason jars full of honey/water mixture or apple juice & shook to combine with yeast nutrient - not a single one leaked. They are bubbling away currently. I'm elated with these for use in fermenting beverages and look forward to using them for pickles & other veggies in the future!

Ok. The lid fits, color is red, the flip top closes & yes, one can drink with no leaks. Here's my problem. The flip top flips off. I do not possess super human strength, or even work out. I am a fairly sedentary grandmother who simply wanted a convenient travel lid for cold beverages in my canning jar. If I'm not paying attention & flip it up with even normal pressure the stopper flies off & I have to go hunt the flipper. Not helpful when driving & potentially disastrous when shaking. I much prefer the sipper lid with straw. If I need to shake something, I'll shake with the original canning lid & then use the sipper lid. I just couldn't give it 5 stars. Probably should have given it 3. I mean the flipper lid is a major function of the product but so is the overall seal of the entire lid. Hence, I opted to go with 4.

Love these caps! Makes my third one and just use it for everything! I make my own home brew cold coffee and this works great to pour into a glass. The only problem I guess is two fold. It is a bit hard to open/unclick and when you do the whole thing comes unclicked - both ends - where it attaches to the cap itself and the place where you pour the liquid from. Second problem is after you click everything back on and tilt the jar to pour the cap falls back down and somehow you have to hold the cap part up enough to pour while holding the jar itself. A bit difficult to manage BUT this stills works for me so I am happy with these caps. I have bought 3 - two wide mouth and one regular mouth so although I might be a bit disappointed, they do the job! Also, glad they offer these in so many colors! Love the choices!

Perfect execution on this product. Bought ten of these elsewhere and got a better price. I purchase gallons of milk for my stepson and break it down in to quart jars. We have less spillage especially from full gallon containers first pour. I also buy half gallons of half and half and break it down into pint jars. These store in less space in the refrigerator and on those occasions when the container is left out (common with a kid) the spoilage is reduced. I use glass mason jars through out my kitchen for leftovers and lots of other things. A cut onion in a glass container does not pass it's odors to other foods. The glass is recyclable too.
There is a silicon ring that keeps it from leaking around the edge. Be sure and seat this in the grove or you will have dribbles down the side.
I noted that this as a kick starter project. Very cool. I don't know if there is a wide mouth version, I haven't yet looked. If there is I'll get some of those too.

Feature Product

  • USE WITH RECAP POUR - Purchase the fermenters as an add-on to the reCAP POUR (sold separately) to transform your Mason Jar into a fermentation vessel. When done, simply remove the fermenter for easy storage. This 3-pack of reCAP Fermenters pairs well with our 4-pack of reCAP POUR Mason jar lids, also available on Amazon.
  • AUTHENTIC ONE-WAY VALVE - Just as it sounds, a one-way valve allows the flow of a gas or liquid in only one direction. This is the purpose of an airlock: to allow carbon dioxide gas to flow out of the jar, and prevent oxygen (or anything else) from flowing into the jar.
  • WATERLESS - NO maintenance or monitoring required. No need to monitor water levels, like in other airlocks. Ferment and forget about it!
  • DURABLE - An Economical, Multipurpose Solution that will last for many years because of it's strength and high quality materials.
  • SAFE - Rust-free, BPA-free, Food Safe Plastic, this true one-way valve allows gases to escape and will not let air in, preventing the growth of mold during the ferment

Description

The EASIEST waterless airlock set that ferments and stores culinary creations that are delicious and good for your health. For both regular mouth and wide mouth Mason jars. This tried and tested solution is simple to use, with less pieces and stepsbetter results than traditional methods and current Mason jar fermenting tools that we’ve tested. Utilizing the original reCAP POUR, the Fermenter creates an air-tight seal with the one-way valve and stopper. During the ferment, the carbon dioxide releases through the valve as pressure builds up within the jar. When done, simply remove the Fermenter and the reCAP POUR turns into a storage cap. It is the most multi-functional fermenter available!

Purchased a few of these for myself and a co-worker. I use mine for hot tea and cold drinks on the go, she uses hers for protein shakes. Well constructed, use a few times a week and no major issues thus far (purchased in Oct 2016 and writing this review in Dec 2017).
The flip top pops off for easy cleaning. Beware of over-tightening as they can be difficult to grip when washing/wet...but, in order to be truly leakproof they need to be well-tightened. We soak in warm water or run under warm water to loosen - the plastic expands more than glass and will budge after a minute or two in warm water.
My only complaints: I get drips on my nose and/or shirt sometimes from the cap; the tabs that hold on the cap do wear out a little and sometimes catch on my hands when unscrewing the top (see comments above on how tight lid needs to be not to leak!)

I don't give out that many 5 stars but I really like this lids. They fit the large mouth ball mason jars perfectly. The lids did not leak from spout or jar lid. I will buy more of these! If you a jarring kind of person, this is for you!

I bought these for my son's lunches. He cannot drink milk so we send soymilk (for thr protein) in his lunches the tetra packs are expensive. We were using just the regular lids but they were hard for him to open if we over tightened them. These are perfect. So far we have had no leaks. However the pop open spout does not click into place. I was worried that if my son was not careful about closing it that there would be problems. So far there have been none. We just make sure the gasket is seated properly (when shipped some of them were no longer seated properly, no big deal and they have stayed put since.). We wash them in the too rack of our dishwasher. Thank you for making just what we needed!!

Now can you please make a replacement lid for mason jars that will feed our hummingbirds? One that won't rust?

I have the EcoJarz lid, which I loved but found that it would rust where the gasket is, regardless of how much I took care of it. I bought this one because it has less parts won’t rust. The only reason it’s not 5-stars is because the cap doesn’t have a way to stay open. When I tilt the jar to drink, the cap hits me square between the eyes. Also, if you push the cap back too far, it just comes off. I’ve found it easier to take that part off to drink, and pop it back in after. So far it hasn’t leaked, but since I haven’t traveled much with it, I can’t say how well the cap sticks. It is far easier to clean, and there are less parts to clean up. And yes, the gasket does come out, so no need to worry about mold getting between it and the plastic. In case anyone is wondering what’s in in the jar, it’s watermelon juice.

The lids screw on the wide mouth jars very snuggly. No worries there. The material is solid, not flimsy and looks like it's built to last a good long while. Pours great. My only issue with these is that the little flip top falls off all the time. You kind of have to be gentle & precise when opening the flip top, or it's going to completely dislodge. Similar to this, you need to hold the flip top up while pouring. If you don't, there's a good chance it's going to fall back down and cause a nice spill of whatever liquid you're trying to pour. I will probably try another brand of these next time. They're not so irritating that I'm going to return them, but irritating enough that I'll try another next time. I also wish I had been able to buy four white ones, however, there was no 4-pack option for this color :\
