This is a fairly good pancake pen, but it's definitely not perfect. I use mine mostly to make pancakes using a homemade batter that is a bit thick.
Pros:
It holds quite a bit. I don't have to reload it as often as I did with my old pen.
It's very stable when loading if you use the back end as a base for the pen to rest in.
The cap does a very good job of holding in pancake batter.
Wide enough to clean easily by hand.
Easy to squeeze.
No little rubber rings to lose or trap batter.
Cons:
The mixer ball just doesn't cut it with my pancake recipe. I am back to mixing in a bowl and then pouring the batter in.
There are crevices that are tough to clean on both ends.
Once you start using the pen, you can't use the bottom as a base for reloading without it being messy.
The opening is a bit large - batter comes out pretty fast compared to other pens.
I never thought I would be a pancake pen person, but years ago I purchased a pen on a whim and ended up using nearly every week. My kids LOVE pancakes. When the plastic split on it, I had to find a new pen. You just can't fit as many pancakes on the griddle when you're pouring straight from the bowl! There are definitely some advantages to this pen over my old one, especially when it comes to cleaning it and its large capacity.
I've tried using the ball to mix my batter several times, but I could never get it to mix well. It may just be that I'm using a recipe that's too thick for it (I make pancakes with whole wheat flour and flax seed meal). If you're using a store-bought mix, it may work fine.
The tip is definitely larger than other pens I've used, so it doesn't have quite the same level of control you'd find in other pancake pens. I haven't tried it with any of my pancake molds, and I'm guessing that it would be a bit trickier to use with more delicate molds. It does a great job with regular pancakes and the waffle iron, though. The body of the pen seems like it'll last quite a while.
If you want to do pancake art, go elsewhere. But if you want a pen to speed up your breakfast by getting as many pancakes onto the griddle as you can (without lots of drips on the counter), this pen will serve you well.
I LOVE this thing! Breakfast has never been faster or easier! And it doesnt make noise that will wake everyone up while I am mixing. The silicone tip is real silicone (for those wondering about the pinch test) and does good against cast iron. I have never been able to get my pancakes this fluffy until now! So great! Planning on buying more from this brand! It is also super easy to clean. The bottom comes off to fill it up and it turns into a holder for the bottle by setting the top into the bottom setting. It suggests putting in your liquid first them your mix but if making a large amount you might have to gently tap it a bit.
Just bought this item a few days ago. We're FINALLY getting to use it for the first time today... woo-hoo, Sunday Mornin' Pancakes!! My hubby gives it high praises....hes todays chef. He especially liked the extra wide opening for adding the ingredients and the pressure release cap on the bottom.....he hates wearing more of the mix thans in the shaker. Was definitely a rigorous 2-handed deal though when it came to shaking it up, kinda reminded me of those "Shake-Weight" thingys, so be prepared for a bit of cardio. As with most mixtures they tend to settle, so he found that a good shaking in between pancakes was really helpful as well. Breakfast came out great. Tried them on our new "Gotham Steel Pancake Bonanza Copper" pan....cant say where we got it of course, but it was a "Great Value" for the price we paid ;)
Anywho, clean-up on our mixer was a breeze...little soap, water and a shake really did the trick.
Overall I (and my hubby) highly recommend this item. Was a fantastic price, shipping was toot-sweet and the design is definitely a winner.....BIG THANKS to the lady who created it :)
Use it daily to make my Kodiak pancakes and it works beautifully every time. Sometimes a little less or more liquid is required to get the proper consistency, but that ultimately depends on what ingredients you toss into the bottle (along with the mix).
Just note that you must be careful not to over-tighten the tip cover or it may crack as mine did shortly after purchase.
What I like:
It makes it easier to store unused pancake batter, weekends are usually pancake days for me and I am a childless widower, so putting the cap back on and sticking it in the fridge is easier and less wasteful than plastic wrap. I can see where this will be good for using it for waffles too, so next time I use it I will try it with brownies in the wafflemaker.
What I don't like: Everything that goes in pancakes is light in color as is the measurement markings on the bottle, contrasting colors would be nice. The bottle itself is a bit tall so it doesn't fit on the top rack of the dishwasher as easy as it should, and inch shorter would make for a smaller capacity, but would make it easier to fit in the dishwasher. The pancakes did not come out as light and fluffy as when I make the same recipe by hand, maybe I just need to let the batter rest a little before cooking, so will see with tomorrow's pancakes.

1. FAVE Cuts down on the drip mess! 2. Perfect for keto/low carb and gluten-free pancakes and waflles, muffins, etc because almond flour settles... you can re-mix with a quick shake - has not leaked with vigorous shaking. 3. Very easy to clean. I just rinse, use every day. Have not tried putting in the dishwasher (will not... want to make sure it lasts, fittings are tight for leak-free shaking.)
If you’re thinking of buying this item, DO IT!
I originally purchased it because I was tired of scooping my batter with a measuring cup, dripping along the way, just to have oblong-shapped pancakes. This thing makes the perfect round cakes with no mess! I was sceptical about it holding as much batter as we usually use; enough for four people. But it was perfect when we doubled the original recipe! It has a built-in stand when you add your ingredients through the bottom and clean up is a breeze. Don’t think twice; just buy it. You won’t regret it!
This is actually pretty slick and well thought out. You fill this from the bottom, it unscrews and the bottom base has an opening for the top to fit in while you fill it up (I recommend holding it, but it actually works quite well). Add liquid first, then powder, close, and shake. I was surprised at how well it works. The silicone heat resistant tip makes using it on my Blackstone a breeze, and it's all easy to clean.
Highly recommend!
UPDATE: I’ve literally had this for nearly two years and I still love it. But I just discovered something bordering on genius!! When you screw off the large lid to fill, place the smaller nozzle end with cap in the base. It holds it perfectly steady with no risks of it tipping over!!
Original review:
I love making pancakes but always make such a huge mess in the process. So much so that I could have served as the exaggerated infomercial example of life without the product. Pancake batter would be running down the outside of the bowl. It would be all over the stove and even the floor!
Insert life with the Whiskware Batter Mixer. So simple to use! Dump your ingredients and shake! Pancake dispensing has never been easier!
I love this so much that this is the second one I've purchased for our vacation home! I highly recommend if you're a fan of clean kitchens.
I love this contraption! I know it's dishwasher safe, but my dishwasher broke so I had to hand wash it. I was concerned about the whisk ball, but A-HA! Easy to wash because it's a round spring! Perfect in all ways.. Easy to use, easy to wash, everything disassembled and perfect. Saves on washing bowls, measuring cups, spoons, etc. I am impressed to be honest.
