Broan 413004 Range Hood, 30-Inch, Stainless Steel

We purchased this hood for a full kitchen remodel. I would have liked to have one that is vented to the outside but due to the kitchen design, it would have been expensive and would have resulted the project not being a do it yourself job. The installation was easy. Any experienced do-it-yourselfer should not have any issues with the installation. The shipping was super fast! As far as the performance, the fan does a great job of moving air and filtering it. It prevents the steam from escaping all over the kitchen and does a decent job of filtering out odors, however, not as well as a fan that is vented externally but that is to be expected.

This is an exact replacement for the Kenmore range hood that was put in my house 15 years ago. Obviously made in the same factory because it is identical in every aspect. That made it super easy to swap it out in 15 minutes. I was upgrading from white to stainless steel and this did the trick for matching our new oven. A lot of reviews mention the fan is noisy and the light cover is unattractive. This is not a high-end hood for chefs - it is your average range hood for middle class people who just want a basic range hood. I'm 6 feet tall and I can't see my light bulb cover when I stand in front of it. If I were shorter, I would be able to see the plastic light bulb cover, but that wouldn't bother me. The fan sounds like a standard cheaper fan so it isn't really quiet, but that isn't important to me for a nice looking range hood at this price point. If you can hear the fan running, it means somebody is cooking. That's a good thing!

Bought this for a kitchen remodel since I was building out floating shelves and Had no place to cleanly install a vent to the attic. Wiring was straight forward and my only complaint is that it was slightly bent during shipping causing the unit to be out of square. I was able to fix this myself so I did not contact the seller about it.

This looks great in my newly remodeled kitchen

This was almost an exact replacement for the one we got rid of. The suction isn't awesome but it works ok and the stainless looks very nice. Yes its very thin as others have stated. I'd been looking at other more powerful models or even upgrading to an externally vented model but in the end we just wanted to get rid of the original 1979 almond colored air vent. This unit bolted in using the same holes and parts and wiring and I was done in about 10 minutes. I give it a 4 because it's what I was expecting for this price range. Whenever we get around to redoing the kitchen this will not be what we use.

This unit looks fabulous in our new kitchen. We didn't have a range hood before, so this is a huge improvement. I did expect the fan to be more heavy-duty than it is, but it seems to keep cooking steam moving in the right direction. I expect this will cut down on grease buildup around and above the stove. Being a ductless model, the filter will filter out grease, protecting the fan, but will do nothing to remove cooking odors from the room. The light over the stove is fantastic. I used an LED bulb that uses less than 10W so I don't have to feel guilty about leaving it on as a night light.

Description

The 41000 series of non-ducted under cabinet hoods are made to exacting Broan standards, providing effective filtration, high quality and value. The range hood comes in a variety of appliance matching colors and widths, and includes a removable combination grease-charcoal filter for cleaner indoor exhaust recirculation, a fan designed for years of trouble free service, a protective lamp lens that distributes light evenly over the cook-top and control switches for fan speed and light activation.

More like 4.5 stars. Simple, pretty, light, and fairly easy to install. We really wanted a nice ducted system, but I just lost gumption and didn't want to fork out $700 for a low-end ducted system. This is a great lazy, cost-conscious choice. We use it ductless. Relatively quiet. Almost wish the high setting were a little more powerful, but it's good for pulling most of the steam and smoke up. Make sure it's not much more than 24 inches above the stove. It doesn't come with a plug, so you either have to hardwire it (that's where installation could get tricky, especially if you had to re-route wires), or get a pigtail plug like I did. A pigtail is a like an extension cord with a three-pronged plug at one end and 3 wires at the other end to connect to the hood wires (black, white, and ground). Then you can just plug it into an outlet instead of hardwiring--which also means drilling a 1-inch hole into the shelf you're going to attach the hood to so that the wire can come through.

It needs a completely flat shelf/surface above it to screw into. Four short screws hold it in place. It's just a titch (1/8 inch) under 30 inches wide, so if you have exactly 30 inches to fit into, it'll go. The control panel comes out to 12 inches, flush with a standard 12-inch deep cabinet.

I had to replace an old hood, and needed to make a decision about laying out serious bucks on a gamble for a recirculating hood (I can't duct outside) or just accepting that no recirculating hood will ever do the job right. So, to make the kitchen look good, and to use the wire already there, and to have a light over my stove, I got this, and of course, it doesn't suck at all (I admit, I have it a bit higher than most would have, but I still don't think it would do much). It beats the heck out of being charged another $60 for shipping as the big box stores consider it an appliance, and have standard appliance shipping costs. So, if your just trying to finish your kitchen, or you're a landlady/lord, and don't want to vent outside, this is as good as any, and for less money. But if you can vent outside, I highly suggest doing so: I once had such a hood and no non-ducted vent can come close.

This is exactly what I needed to complete my stainless steel kitchen appliance collection. It fits perfectly and was to easy to install. I used the wiring that was on my old unit to hook this one up. It looks great and works great too.

I ordered my range hood from Amazon warehouse deals. It was described as “acceptable” condition. I realized when ordering this likely meant unboxed, damaged and scratched but in working order. My assessment was right - box arrived beaten and weathered, corners were dented on the box and the styrofoam padding inside was not placed around the range hood to protect it. I figured it was ordered and delivered damaged to at least one other customer who then returned it to Amazon. There was a large dent in the front of the unit along the top mounting edge. I was able to flatten it with careful work using a block of wood and a hammer from the inside. I don’t need my appliances to be 100% perfect in appearance and figured that for $30 there would be some damage. The dent is hardly noticeable. The unit works just fine, the light and switch work and the fan runs at both speeds. Overall a bit low on power and really no match for a ducted exhaust fan when it comes to cooking, smoke, oil or odorous burns. But the unit met my expectations and so did the terms of “acceptable condition.” So five stars.

Our over the stove wall mounted microwave gave out on Christmas day 😥. But here was my chance to get a little microwave for the counter and a new range hood. Now everything is stainless steel and matches.

The best part is this range hood. It was easy to install. As other reviewers have noted it is not a perfect square and there is a bit of a gap on the left side between the hood and the cabinet. If you look directly at your range hood every day from all angles and you are a perfectionist then this is not the item for you. If you are like me and the hood is close to a corner you would have to be examing the installation closely to tell there is a bit of a gap.

The light is wonderful. Just use a regular bulb and it screws in behind a diffuser piece. Easy to change bulbs and no glare. This is a huge improvement over the microwave with a special ecpensive bulb that was so inaccessible my husband declared it impossible so I literally had to use a flashlight to see what I was cooking....no lie.

The fan is not the strongest in the world but it's also relatively quiet. Good trade off in my opinion.

The item arrived on time and securely packed. No damage. I'd buy it again. I like how it looks and the price is right. My kitchen seems much lighter and more spacious. All in all a good purchase....super perfectionists beware.
