Originally saw this on Kickstarter. Since then Hasbro and others have made copy cats of the original game. I haven't played Speak Out but happy to support the small business that created the original game instead.
This game is funnier than I really thought it would be. Know that, if you have teens or even middle schoolers, some of the words/phrases in this family addition are probably a little too easy. Still it's pretty funny. I was surprised by how frustratingly difficult some of the “hard” phrases were to say with the mouth guard in. The words and phrases in the family addition are definitely all appropriate and really shouldn’t lead to any accidental or sounds like swears, etc. My kids are on the young end of teenage years. This edition was just fine, but, like I said, some word are too simple. I have younger nieces and nephews and this version is perfect and hilarious for them.
this game is unbelievably funny, whether you play the standard rules or one of the many variations across the internet. and it's even better played with english language learners—the bewildered looks i get from a student while a native speaker is trying to guess what words they said are hilarious, and it's great pronunciation practice. and it's a lot of giggling, drooling, and giggling about drooling.
Absolutely hilarious game! I brought it to a family event, and it was a hit! The older folks were hesitant at first, but once we started playing everyone had a great time! We literally laughed until we cried. It was a new kind of bonding experience with my family, and it was so fun to see them all laughing!
This game includes two different sizes of mouth pieces: one for adults and one for kids. The smaller ones also fit adults though, and can be used if you feel like the larger ones stretch your mouth too wide.
My family loves this game. It comes with two different sized mouth pieces, which was nice. I am 21 and have played it with a group of 21 year olds as well as with a 10 year old, 16 year old, and 18 year old with my 81 year old grandma watching and had an amazing time every time. The mouth pieces are dish washable - easy cleaning. The only down side to this product, is there is only a limited number of cards and phrases.

This game is hilarious! The kids and adults were both laughing so hard I'm surprised no one peed their pants! This game is great! The only downfall is, once you've gone through the cards, you can pretty much guess what they're saying. We tried making new cards, but then one person knew all of the cards which made it no fun for them. Maybe, next time, we'll all make cards so the guessing can continue. Hopefully that will fix the ONLY issue. Have fun!!! Pro tip, floss and brush your teeth before you play! Your friends will see EVERYTHING. Oh! And bring napkins 😂
We played this on Christmas day. It was a gift for my 14 year old, but it ended up being 2 aunts (60s), 3 cousins (40s) and 1 cousin (20s) who played. We LAUGHED so hard we were crying!!! It was hilarious! By the end of the game we had figured out better how to communicate without certain consonants (using other clue words and gestures) but it is tough - the clues are goofy, not common things you would say. The only down side is that we used almost all the clue cards the first time we played it, so we will definitely need to by some supplemental clue packs.
Fun and hilarious...if a bit short-lived. It could use more of the cards w/phrases on them without having to order the extended pack of cards. And the phrase cards are really the most fun part. The other challenges are OK, but can get a little messy (it's NOT a first-date activity, given the amount of drooling that takes place.) I got the game for a family reunion at Thanksgiving & the "adults" may have laughed more than the kids. Keep in mind, for kids, they'll have more fun if they're old enough to
read the cards by themselves. And if the mouth pieces are uncomfortable, keep in mind there are 2 sizes, adults and kids, and check instructions to be sure you're inserting them correctly. There's only 1 way for it to be comfy on your gums. It's impossible not to laugh at the look and sound of the lip retractors. We're convinced the game was invented by a bunch of dental students with access to the retractors and a nitrous tank...
This has been an extremely popular game within our family, and it has made an appearance multiple times during holidays and vacations. Recognize that there is a mouthpiece that some find uncomfortable, but let's be honest that's part of the fun. Also, some people have trouble keeping the mouthpiece in, but let's be honest that's part of the fun. Also, some people drool when they try to talk with the mouthpiece in, but let's be honest, that's part of the fun. AND, folks with dentures sometimes struggle to keep their teeth in place, but let's be honest that's part of the fun!!! Finally, there is "clean up" after the game, that's not so fun, but it was fun while it lasted!
Eeeehh.... I do like the idea of the game and I've seen video of others playing the game. For some reason though it seemed too easy to understand what others were saying. We played with a group of mixed ages from 5 yrs - 75 yrs old and the game was not challenging. It was actually disappointing... even for the 5 year-old. I don't know if I bought the wrong BRAND of game because there seems to be another brand game under a very similar name. I don't know if it was the mouth pieces that weren't "garbling" our words enough - maybe different mouth pieces would work better. (OH AND FOR THE LITTLE ONES... these mouth pieces could be too big - - the five year old had a tough time with the mouth piece and was barely able to fit it in.) I (we all) thought the card and the sayings/content they contained were a bit lacking, lame, weak.... maybe the add on cards will be better? All in all though with some tweaking and creativity I am thinking we can make this game the type of game it looks like in videos and commercials. I would recommend trying to check out both versions/brands before buying.
