MakersKit Hanging Air Plant Terrarium

I bought this for my mom for Mother's Day. It's a nice product. I didn't realize that the air plant is not included with the initial shipment and you have to arrange that separately. Not a big deal - I guess I didn't read the fine print. Any way my mom likes it, it looks great in her kitchen. I'd recommend it.

I love it, it is small but you get to arrange it like you want to. I have bought from other places and the plants die in a week. This one is doing great.

This is so cute and easy to put together. It is even easier to keep care of, just spritz with water once a week and they provide the sprayer! Looking for a small decoration for the container to jazz it up a bit....thinking of a little pewter fairy would be perfect for my liking.

Wife loves it.

Got it as a birthday gift for my best friend and she loved it so much she got herself two more

It is still alive after 30 days, I am so proud of myself

I got this as a gift for a friend and they loved it!

good

Small and compact, but not so tiny that it's insignificant. My apartment is super tiny, which means that I have no available surfaces upon which to put any plants. I'm also pretty terrible at taking care of any plants. I've had plants that need very little attention die on my watch. Heck, I even managed to kill off mint that was growing in my garden. Long story short, I hate nature, and everything to do with it. Unfortunately, my husband is the sort who's sooner hug a tree than anything else. I needed a happy medium: he can have a live plant, and I don't have to have something big and ugly that attracts bugs, and has dirt, and needs watering every day.

I have large hands. The "globe" is roughly the size of a navel orange. The little plant thing is small and cute too. The kit came with little stone pebbles, some moss looking thing, and a voucher for the plant itself. As soon as you've got the little globe filled with its habitat, you go online, and order the plant to come in the mail. Ta-da! That's all the effort you need to go through. The globe was thoroughly packed with some kind of hay so it doesn't break. The moss and rocks were in a zip top baggie (separated). You can arrange it however you want. I'm lazy, so the dump everything in method worked for me. I dumped the rocks on the bottom, the mossy stuff on top of that, and then the plant inside on top of that mess.

It currently hangs from my curtain rod. It can get enough light. It's not on a table, taking up space. It's out of my way. It's close enough to the book shelves that husband will see it once a week and water it. Were I to spend the time, effort, and aggravation needed to make one of these things myself, I'd have spent ages going from store to store, searching aisles filled with "crafter" types, and asking stupid questions to people whom I don't want to deal with. Also, I don't have a car, so this'd have cost a fortune in metro cards to get from place to place. Also, I hate dealing with annoying store people who are supposed to know where everything is, but stare at you and drool when you ask a simple question.

This is perfect for someone who can't be fussed to deal with the hassle of buying a bag of rocks (I don't even know what those cost, but you'll never be able to get just a few of them to fit into your globe), a scrap of moss, and the plant, along with the globe, and a short length of twine. To make something like this would involve going to all different kind of stores, and dealing with endless parades of idiots. You'd also have tons of left over material, which you'll feel guilty about throwing out (because it was garbage before you bought it, to be honest), and you'll keep it in your home, where your home will quickly resemble that of those hoarders on TV.

Save the trouble, time, and code enforcement violations.

This cute kit contains all you need to grow a small air plant. Attractively packaged, the small glass globe, twine, a small plastic mister, some non nondescript grey stones, moss and lichen are all cushioned in straw. Included is a code with which you order the air plant. while I liked the idea of getting a fresh, healthy and presumably happy plant, factor in an additional 48 hours to the 1-3 day shipping allowance. I took five days for mine to arrive, Not a deal breaker for me but certain to quell the enthusiasm of a child for whom this is a gift. (The package comes sealed with a decorative tape so it is obvious if you open it to order the plant in time for the occasion.) Upon arrival the plant looked a bit sad but perked up nicely after a soaking in decholorinated tap water. The website provides video instructions on how to set up the terrarium. the globe may be hung or set on a level surface.

Overall I liked this product. It was fun and easy and simple to set up. I do wish an small sheet of instructions was included along with more detail on care and propagation. My brother, who works at a greenhouse, recommends soaking the plant for 1-2 hours, more than the recommended 30 minutes. He also warns to avoid exposing the plant to copper either by attempting to secure with copper wire or pre-treated wood. If you desire to secure the plant, use either fishing line or waterproof glue like plumbers glue (but not Superglue). Guard against colder (45 degrees F). Place where the light is bright but indirect and occasionally fertilize using a reduced amount of fertilizer appropriate for orchids or bromeliads. Air plants tend to blossom in the winter and produce pup which will repopulate your terrarium as the mother plant fades to air plant heaven. The sure to let dry after soaking because mold will destroy your plant. Using pond or aquarium water provides a nice treat for the plant so long as it contains neither chlorine no salt. While air plants are low maintenance they are not no maintenance and need misting, occasional feeding, dunking and drying to thrive.

I did contact customer service via email as I was having some difficulty getting to the page with the free plant. The response was prompt, pleasant and helpful.

This is a very cute kit. It has a nice organic look and was fun to assemble without being overly complicated or time consuming. Success is almost guaranteed so this will no doubt be a great gift for budding horticulturists or anyone who wants to enjoy some greenery without much commitment.
