Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is different and we are all looking for different things and perceive a different value in terms of product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack a few key features I find important (plus a bit of an extra I could do without).
One thing about Kindle covers is that they boil down to two design types--the sleeve and the 'book style' covers. Many people like the protection and feel of the book type cover, plus some function as easels or stands. However, I am in the camp where I just prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style is the way to go.
One positive note, well it is AVAILABLE. I think Amazon does get a bit of a bonus when putting out new products-they have the accessories ready to go. Granted it's not as bad as when K3/Keyboard came out and a lot of vendors were apparently left flat footed and with tons of inventory and no new product. I was sure a new Kindle was coming out this time when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their covers! This time around there are also several other alternatives available, but not a whole lot, so again, this one is at least AVAILABLE.
This sleeve is very lightweight--this is both a positive and a negative depending on your use patterns. Part of the appeal of the sleeve is to maintain the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts from this while most likely offering more protection. This product is light and low profile-- and though there is padding, it is more of a 'keep it safe in a small purse' type. I would NOT feel comfortable using this sleeve in a rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is minimal rigidity to the design and the padding is fairly thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm not sure how well the whole Kindle would stand up to heavier impact. Again, great for some use patterns, not so great for others.
The zipper--positive or negative depending on your point of view. I like zippers in many places, I'm just not wild about them near my Kindle screen as I am a bit of a klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep the zipper away from the actual holding compartment. Not a huge thing, but I don't like the potential for direct contact between the Kindle and the zipper.
The materials-hmmm. Not a nice way to say this, but there is a fairly strong chemical odor when the package is first opened. After a couple days this is resolving but I can still smell it while holding it right up to my nose. A bit of a turn off and sensitive noses and airways may not enjoy this!
The materials again--the fabric is a little rough and pebbly and two tone (grey/black for one and two shades of blue for the other)--my sons like the look, but I don't find that appealing and I suspect that it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree with me (well, not about the 'pill' part, they have no idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as I have not taught them this apparently), but they love the way the covers look.
The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn all the way down--which is nice because you can slip your hand through it and use it to carry or as an attachment site. I like this.
The construction itself is very well done in terms of assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.
Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I have seen other designs that are able to maintain the sleek profile but use a more rigid material for better impact protection, which I prefer. I'm a little leery of the zipper design and I'm not a big fan of the material used. However, there are plenty of nice features too, and it all boils down to personal taste and overall it is a nice, quality, sleeve.
Recommended, just not for me (but these are for my kids and they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least in my time zone..). Now my boys have been using this sleeve for over a month now and I wanted to add a couple comments. On the plus side the chemical odor did fade away completely--no issue in my family, but it was bad enough that I think someone with reactive airways or a strong nose could really find it bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, but the way the zipper goes around there was one case of the Kindle falling out and hitting the tile floor when my youngest thought it was closed all the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that may be an issue for someone.
This is working out fine for my kiddos...at this point I'd be giving a 4.5 stars if I could!
This is a great product for my Kindle. I recently bought the basic new Kindle and I have to admit, I was a little afraid of throwing it in my backpack to read while on campus. This is my first e-reader so I did want to baby it. I liked the size and weight of the Kindle without a case though. That's where the sleeve comes in. It fits the Kindle like a glove and protects it well. I don't feel nervous about bringing it along with me at all. Unlike the book-style cases though, I can use it at its original size and throw it back in the sleeve when I'm finished. This newest Kindle is very compact and I thought the always-on cases ruined that. The sleeve was just what I was looking for.
The only reason I gave the product 4 stars out of 5 is for the price. It is a bit on the expensive side. Kindles cost as little as 79 dollars so 30 dollars for a cover is a comparatively large added cost. It was cheaper than the book-style cases though.
I love this product. It looks classy and expensive, but it is very practical and easy to use. Mostly it is zipped up almost to the top and sits in my purse. I just drop the Kindle PaperWhite inside and I know it'll be nicely protected...sometimes I'll move the zipper a tad bit to make sure that the Kindle is 100% secure inside, but generally I don't need to do this. Of course, I could zip it completely up each time...but to tell you the truth, I don't feel I need to do this. The inside material grips the Kindle while it also gentle protects it on all sides. I know it would take too much to make the Kindle jump out of this sleeve in my purse even if I threw it around. The best thing about this sleeve is how light it is. Sometimes it is hard to know from a picture if the product is going to be right. I was lucky this time. It's perfect!
I have purchased 4 Kindles over the past few years. Each new Kindle seemed to always require a new cover, which was very frustrating to me due to each having a different type of latching system to connect it to the covers I bought. I always purchased a nice leather cover to protect it and look nice also. When my last Kindle arrived, which was my Paperwhite, it too would need a cover. I decided on a sleeve type this time with the zipper that closes on the top and right side. It was inexpensive, the Kindle drops in easily and can be removed easily also but remain protected well while in the sleeve. The interior is a quilted pattern which adds some extra protection. The exterior comes in different colors but I decided on the charcoal with brown trim. The price was decent and acceptable and the construction was well made.
When I bought my Kindle, I was looking at some of the leather sleeves, but they were too expensive. I came upon this sleeve and read some of the reviews. Most of the reviews discouraged me because people were talking about unpleasant smells and the sleeve being too small, but one woman who reviewed said she wasn't satisfied, but her kids were. That's when I got the idea that my point of view matches more with kids than with anyone else..and I trusted that instinct.
I don't find anything at all wrong with the sleeve. It fits my Kindle perfectly and there are no weird smells. I am very very satisfied with this product.

The zipper closure and fully enclosed design provide ultimate fit and protection without adding bulk. The stylish, patterned interior protects Kindle from scratches. Amazon's official Kindle zip sleeve features a lightweight, slim design, and comes in five different colors. I decided to hold off buying a cover for my new Kindle PaperWhite because it fits the hand so well without it. I did however want a case to avoid scratches and blemishes while toting it around. This sleeve is very attractive and high quality. It looks lovely on the outside and the inside has a thin layer of textured foam that holds the Kindle in place, prevents damage to the screen, and would protect the device from small accidents like being dropped. The Kindle slips into it like a pouch, and you can zip it closed. You can't read the Kindle with it in the sleeve like you can with some book-style cases. But it is a great sleeve for transporting the Kindle in a bag or just for safekeeping. I just bought my first Kindle, the new fourth generation and ordered this case along with. I feel as if the cases where you use the device inside take away from the device itself so this sleeve really appealed to me. When I ordered it though, I did have a small concern that it would be too big as it also accommodated the Kindle touch. This case fits my Kindle great, looks good, and feels well made and durable. I highly reccomend this product. I bought this case while it was on a special when I got my new Kindle Touch and love it. I like using the Kindle Touch without any case or cover, but like being able to put the Kindle away when not in use. I bought the one pictured, charcoal with the brown strap, and it looks nice. it fits like a glove, especially after a few uses. Don't get discouraged the first time you use it, it starts out a little snug. It keeps the Kindle nicely small so it works great when flying and traveling. I must say that I bought this one because the new kindle cover was not good enough for me. I was a little skeptic but was surprised by the overall quality specially the fabrics. Very nice! ![]()
