Can't wait to find more uses for this stuff! Okay, I'm a real nut for clever new things, especially those that can help me save money or repair items that are past their prime. After seeing a YouTube video about how someone had made some custom molded ear buds using this, I've wanted to buy some and give it a try on some other projects.
My prime use for this was to repair some iPhone cables where the plastic casing was breaking away from the plug portion. In my experience, the lightening cables tend to be the most sensitive and likely to malfunction quickly. I would rather preserve my cables than to replace them periodically... Have you bought those things recently? Expensive! So. back to my project. Using a small pea-sized pinch of this putty, I was easily able to wrap the cable at its most fragile point, nearest the plug. I wrapped 3 cables, both ends, and still had used only about a third of one small 5g package. Within 24 hours, it hardened to a firm, somewhat flexible, rubbery consistency. It blends so well with the cable that, on first glance, it isn't noticeable, though that all depends on the user's ability to apply it neatly.
This will definitely be handy for small repairs or projects, but would be prohibitively expensive for a large job. Did you see the Sugru ad which showed a camera that had been encased with large rolls of this stuff? Once hardened, the camera can be tossed across the room and remain undamaged. BUT, this Sugru might be more expensive for that quantity than the price of the camera itself! Be careful that your Sugru repair doesn't cost more than just replacing your item.
So, that's my biggest objection, expensive for a tiny bit of product. I would also have preferred to buy a variety pack of white and black color. Found one with assorted colors, but it had more packs so was more expensive. I really hope this putty will become more reasonably priced as it becomes more popular. Would be great to create a bumper rim around my iPhone!!

I have two Apple power supplies for apple laptops that have developed unsafe, exposed wires where the insulating rubber cover has pulled away at the ends, through regular use and wrapping the cord around the cord management "ears" on the devices. I had tried to fix them with electric tape, but that does not stand up to the bending and moving of the cord, and eventually the wires are exposed again. I used the white Sugru putty, and it worked really well, providing a strong, flexible, insulating cover at the spots on the power cables that experience the most stress. This little product saved me $80 for each replacement power supply.... Plus, I got to relive childhood memories of molding stuff out of Play-Doh. I have preemptively added it to my other Apple cords to reinforce the areas that bend a lot, to try and ensure a long life for my cables. My only gripe is that this stuff seems awfully pricey, for such a tiny amount of product. It is very similar in feel to some of the polymer clays and slow-cure epoxies you can find in the hobby/craft store, but it is considerably more expensive. It's also more flexible, once cured, and doesn't require baking to cure..... So maybe that's why? It's a very unique product, perfectly suited to personalizing and clever hacks for electronic devices. I am glad I know about it, now, and will probably order it again.
Great for preserving the life of my Mac chargers, at the points where they fray (at the magsafe connector and where the cord goes into the brick). It was super easy, and I actually had leftover material from the 1/3 of the package I used (picture me running around with remainder, finding things to "fix" before it cured). Photo attached of my result--note that I'm not very dextrous and could have used a much thinner application. But even with my somewhat-clumsy job, it's secure and flexible. Great stuff.
This stuff is great! I used it to mould the inside of an infant foam potty seat when we decided to cut a bigger hole in it. The foam on the inside would absorb "liquids" and the outer edges would be rough on the baby's skin. So I used Sugru to cover those edges, which took no more than 15 minutes. And the baby loves it! In hindsight, I should have mixed blue and white together to match the seat color.
Like a lot of reviewers, I bought this product to repair Apple's poorly-designed mag-safe cable. It did the job! And I saved $80 on purchasing a new cable. You have to follow the instructions exactly, though. I tried winging it, but it wasn't working. The stuff was sticking to my hands better than it was sticking to the mag-safe cable. Then I saw the instructions that you need to wash your hands first. My hands weren't dirty, but okay. Washing made the difference. Maybe it was the oils in my hands, but after washing I was able to mold the product around the cable. My second tip for this type of repair is to wrap the glue around the cable and mold it to itself before trying to get it to adhere to the cable.

We had ludicrously high expectations because we'd seen it in YouTube, and it did just what it said it would, however we are only one week in so can't yet say how it holds up. The only negative was when we saw it on YouTube, we checked the Amazon price and was half of what we paid two weeks later. That may be a Sugru corporate decision to see what the market will bear, and not (I hope) not Amazon- it looked to be the same price everywhere, but all things being equal, I always shop Amazon, because I drank the Prime coolaid and do calculate free shipping in the cost.
We also bought the colored assortment pack because we loved the idea. We haven't tried mixing colors yet so don't know if it can be done. The only disappointment is they come in little packets and even in a ziplock will dry-up overnight. So have all your projects lined up when you open up your packets. They are each about the size of a fast food mustard packet, but we fixed 4 IPad/iPhone charging cords and could've probably done 5, if we weren't testing out if it would keep overnight. It worked well with pressing patterns in, my son suggested we could use wax seals, and I did a trial on one for distinguishing ownership of cables. It worked great. Making it perfectly smooth was more painstaking. If I had it to do again (and I have enough to do about 8 more project sessions including colors) I'd clean a piece of plateglass really well (like a picture frame glass) so I could roll it smooth without picking up any gunk. Overall, if it were a little less money I'd buy a LOT more of it. And I am intrigued by the kits or idea books or molds, but the descriptions are bad so I couldn't figure out what they were. And they cost as much as the Sugru itself, so I'm pretty unlikely to buy it. If you got to choose a kit if you bought 3 packs, you'd probably get me, but you be you. I think everyone with a little creativity, any fix-it skills, or DIY desire- will love this product and want more. Btw. (I am not a doctor, and I guess we don't have sensitive skin) but the YouTube demos show bare hands and the product recommends gloves. We risked it. I hope I didn't just poison my family, but it would be significantly more difficult to manipulate with latex gloves, and although I have them in the house- I don't know if most people do. So if your family does have sensitive skin-buyer beware. I'd be interested in what a chemist had to say.
This product is so easy to use! I had read a few reviews where they complained about how hard it was to manipulate the product, or how messy and sticky it was to use. Let me put those fears to rest! I ordered the product in WHITE. I don't know if color (or lack of) effects how messy, sticky, or pliable the product is to use, but I found it no messier than playing with play doh or polymer clay. There is a 13 month life span on the sealed product (you can extend life by refrigerating it), and the expiration date is printed on the individual foil packets. I got mines on July 23, 2014. The expiration date printed on mine said July 2015, so I would have to deduct that my product is about 1 month old at point of sale. It felt soft and pliable through the foil so I knew I did not receive duds. Product was ready to use out of the foil. I didn't have to spend time softening it in my hand. With one foil packet of Sugru, I was able to adhere my metal shower caddy to my shower head (it kept slipping off- usually in the middle of the night with a loud scary crash), create a small nob for a metal release switch where the original plastic nob had cracked off (for my table top propane stove), repair my phone charger cable where the rubber had come apart and wires were showing (basically what Sugru uses as prime example...apparently this happen a lot), and also adhere the white plastic bolt covers on one toilet (you know, those round little knobs on the bottom of your toilet that hides the screws...well, my contractor must have broke all of them, because they just sit on top instead of snapping on). For the Sugru that was molded for plain sight, I smoothed out with soapy water for a more professional finish. Definitely have a few projects in mind when you open the foil packet, and be ready to go through them until you finish your entire foil packet. It totally makes sense they are wrapped up like gum. Any larger, and you'd be wasting this precious soft gold. I barely had any residue on my hand afterwards. Sugru suggests just using plain paper towel or toilet paper to wipe any residue off. I basically washed my hands with soapy water and didn't notice anything on my hand. I plan on buying this as Christmas gifts for people I know who like to fix things up and modify things- this is a dream come true for folks of that mindset.
I noticed that the bottom bin on my travel trailer fridge was loose. When I checked it, the very small slot that is supposed to hold that bin, one that might have large soda bottles or milk cartons stores, had broken on one side and started to crack on the other. I checked on youtube and a guy showed how to use this stuff to make a permanent and very stable repair. I bought it and put it to work. Let it set up for a week and when I went back, I removed the bin (the trick was put the glue, which is more like clay, in place, cover with plastic wrap and push the bin into place.
I can report that the repair was very hard, very stable and seems much more useful than the original on that very thin plastic door moulding.
I was in search of something to fix my phone cords that always split. I ordered this three pack in white, it came in three days and works perfectly. I was able to divide one of the three pieces in the package in order to fix two cords. It takes 24 hours to dry and has a bit of a chemically smell during that time. When it “hardens” it still has a tiny squish to it which still allows it to be flexible as oppose to stiff and rigid.
Really amazing stuff. I took 2 phone charging cords that were splitting – within another week they would’ve been in the trash - and completely salvaged them. Not pretty, but impressive. The product stayed put, maintain flexibility, and yet the cords are still working fine. Really amazing! Worth every penny. HOWEVER. The product really stinks when it’s fresh. I used gloves when applying it, and had to shut it away to keep it away from my cats while it dried because I was afraid they might lick it. It smelled disgusting, but after drying, there was absolutely no odor at all. Product dried smooth, soft, not sticky or tacky, really ideal.
