Striker Concepts 00342 TRiLIGHT 3000 Lm Screw-in Motion-Activated Ceiling Light

This is a cool product but I was expecting more from it for the price paid. The construction is great quality; it feels solid; it's adjustable, and I like that it has an excellent motion sensor.

You have no idea what you're missing out on until you upgrade your garage lighting. I actually spend more time there now.

The reason why I have to give this product two stars is because it is only marginally better than a 1700 lumen LED bulb that you can buy at Home Depot for less than $15. I thought the TriLight was going to be at least 2x as bright but surprisingly it is only slightly brighter and I don't think the extra brightness is worth the extra cost. I'm debating keeping it because it does have the motion sensor which I like and, like the other reviewers have stated, it is an excellent motion sensor because it is super sensitive. To give you an idea of how sensitive it is, it turns on when I'm not even in sight and about to open the door to the garage which is actually very convenient if you're carrying something in your hands. With some sensors you have to flail your hands like a fool to engage it so this product solves that issue. The quality is great. It feels solid; it's a good weight; and I like the aluminum panels. I also like the adjustability of the panels.

My advice is to try this product out and see if you like it but just realize that Home Depot and and all the stores now basically carry all LED lights and some of them are incredibly bright and quality made. If you've never held an LED lightbulb, they feel heavier and are made with quality materials unlike standard halogen bulbs which are flimsy. Like I said, I have a 1700 lumen bulb that is blinding and really puts out most of what the TriLight does so I'll wait a few days and decide if I keep the TriLight.

EDIT July 9, 2017: I bumped up my rating from two to three stars. I decided to keep the TriLight because it is a nice light and the motion sensor is very convenient and works great. There is nothing wrong with this TriLight so I didn't send it back to Amazon or contact the manufacturer. I just think for the price they are charging for this, it should be a night and day difference between a 1700 lumen bulb and I don't think it is and I am very firm on that observation. 1700 lumens is pretty bright to begin with but this TriLight is not close to double the brightness and in a 25x9 foot garage with an 8 foot ceiling, the Trilight only strongly illuminates about 2/3 of it when placed at one end.

Either way, it's a good product and I would still recommend you at least consider it and try it out.

I wonder where I can buy one of those lights that they use in the gas stations. That's what I really need. I remember Griot's Garage used to sell that type of product years ago in their catalog but they don't anymore. If you have a two-car garage with a high ceiling, that's really the product that you would need for intense lighting.

EDIT August 29, 2017: I'll go ahead and just officially leave this review at four stars now because last night I walked out into my driveway at night and when I was looking back into the garage, it did look nice and bright compared to any other garage on the block which all have that dim yellow/orange look to them. I'm still going to be firm on my assessment that for the price paid, this TriLight should be at least twice as bright as a comparable LED bulb that you can get from Home Depot. So even though my review will post as four stars now for everyone to see, If you're reading this part, I really feel that it lies somewhere in the three to four star range based on a price:performance ratio. My review is not a negative review; it is a critical review of a really nice product. I have attached a few pictures for you to see. The first pictures was taken at night without any outside light and you can see that the garage is nicely illuminated but I'm standing at the opposite end and it is considerably "less" illuminated. The second pictures shows you the garage door and the light does not reach that far.The third picture shows that I have a fully functioning unit. I want to point out that the light is not being obstructed by the items I have mounted to the ceiling because I installed those after putting this light in and the output was the same before those items were installed.

EDIT September 2, 2018: I recently moved to another house and I noticed that the garage seemed a bit brighter when I removed everything from it. The walls are painted white and the floor is painted in the standard grey. I did have a lot of things attached to the walls as you can see from the pictures I posted.

I still say this light should be brighter considering the cost but keep in mind that you will lose a good amount of reflected light with the more things you have on your walls that are not white in color.

It's still a great light but you will get much brighter illumination for less money with fluorescent tubes. I personally like the combination of this light with fluorescent tubes and like I mentioned earlier, this Striker model has one of the best motion sensors I have ever seen.

My review is still a favorable one.

I would like to give this 4.5 stars, but I rounded down. Features, design performance, shipping speed and overall satisfaction get a 5. The 4 is a big one - expected durability. These are obviously early production units and they have some rough edges. The unit I received was 100% operational, all three LED panels are very bright and all the LEDs are illuminated, but I am afraid how long this will last. Here are my criticisms: a few of the individual LEDs were slightly misaligned. With robotic insertion, this shouldn't happen. I expect that the assembly of my unit was manual with a slightly sloppy technician. Next is a long term issue: there are dozens of LEDs that were well soldered, but a few looked like there wasn't enough solder used and a few looked suspiciously like a cold solder joint (a good solder joint is shiny, a cold solder joint looks a little grainy because the solder didn't solidify uniformly.) This may lead to a failure down the road. The other thing was where each of the three panels is wired to the controller - there are two wires soldered to the LED panel and I noticed two issues here - the soldering job was not great on two of the six wires and there was flux left on the connection. This should have been cleaned off. Depending on the type of flux used, this can absorb moisture and grow mold, again, a possible long term issue.

I expect that these quality control issues will be solved when the units get into full scale production, but these are the sorts of problems that caused other to see DOA or infant mortality issues.

The use of a microwave motion sensor is great, much better than the standard IR/Fresnel sensors. I am using this light in a large utility closet/room. It senses motion as we approach the door and keeps the light on with the slightest movement in the room. The fact that the three panels can be individually positioned makes the light quite versatile, and it is quite bright. 25 watts with the light output of three halogen flood lights is incredible.

Overall, this product gets an A-, but with better QC will easily be an A+ performer.

Love the motion sensor. Tired of motion sensing lights that don't work or quit working. I put it under an overhang outside the back of my garage. Plenty of light for my application (see pic).

This light is great! Like others have said it may seem expensive for what it is, but it solves so many problems so easily and works so well it seems the premium price is justified. I was considering installing 4' LED strips with motion sensors in our garage, but was always dreading the whole thing, the wiring, the hanging, the hoping my expectations are met. With this, the install was about 3 minutes and that included getting a ladder and setting it up! It's very easy to adjust the light position and the light is about as bright as I would want, you don't want to look at it when it's on. It looks tactical and durable, which is perfectly suited for a garage. Our garage is 2 cars wide and 2 cars deep with a little side wood shop, it currently has 3 over head lights, with just one of these it's remarkably brighter in the whole garage. Now that it's passed the test, we'll be getting 2 more and having abundant light that's on when you need it in a garage is a nice improvement.

VERY bright. Much better than the older halogen bulb in our garage. Only downside is that, like most LED lights, it is piercing if you actually look directly at it. Only a 4 because the cost is pretty high. Seems like this should run for $50-75 not $130. Still glad I got it.

Description

The TRiLIGHT is a motion activated ceiling light for the garage, basement, or any room in the home that requires more light than a traditional light bulb can produce. Most importantly, it delivers the power of a lighting system that typically requires an expensive install by a licensed electrician, but it is as easy as screwing in a light bulb. The TRiLIGHT boasts an impressive 3000 lumens of light output. Compare that to a traditional 60 watt bulb producing 800 lumens of light and you will see that the TRiLIGHT is a powerhouse. Additionally, the TRiLIGHT only draws 24 watts of power making it both friendly to the environment and to your wallet by saving you money on the power bill every month. he TRiLIGHT also features an ultra-sensitive motion sensor, which will detect your presence when you enter the room, or detect the motion of the garage door when you drive home at night. The TRiLIGHT produces 3.8 times the illumination of a traditional garage door opener light, ensuring that garages are well lit when drivers arrive home at night. The TRiLIGHT automatically turns off when no motion is detected. Additionally, users can opt to turn off the motion sensing feature. This product is equipped with a MICROWAVE MOTION SENSOR. It is EXTREMELY sensitive. The most common customer service inquiry for the TriLight is from customers thinking their light is NOT turning off, when it actually is. Due to the advanced microwave motion sensor, the TriLight can sometimes detect motion through windows and may even detect your motion as you approach your door. This would cause the light to appear on before you enter the room. If you question whether your light is turning off, we encourage you to use your phone or video camera to monitor the inside of your room while you are away for at least 2 minutes. Make sure you are not near the room, as that may trigger the light.

It's a bit expensive for what it is, but it's a great light, and the 360deg motion detection works perfectly and actually a little too sensitive. We use it in the garage to detect us when coming/going or when the car pulls in to turn on and provide light. It will NOT light up your entire 2-car garage, nor did I expect it to, but it provides enough light to see, and the motion detection works great. It turns itself on about 4 feet from the door, so it detects our presence 3-5 feet before we get to the door - of course it turns on when we just walk near the door or windows of the garage as well. I'd rather have it detect me consistently and be too sensitive, then not enough.

EDIT 11/16/18: This light is still working perfectly and we are really happy with it. It works when it's below zero, when it's above 120deg in the garage, etc. We've decided it is definitely worth the money and highly recommend it for the garage, basement, etc. To clarify, it will provide enough light to illuminate the entire 2 car garage, but it is not a bright light, but enough to see the garage and do what you need to do. It turns on as a person gets 3-5 feet from the garage so the light is on when you open the door. It also detects a person walking by the window on the garage - a bit extra security for us. We love the light and would buy it again, well worth it.

I've had the light installed for a month now without any issues. I would say my rating is a combination of the cost versus the brightness. I was expecting a brighter light, but i think that i had the mistaken impression of what to expect. I have a 3 car garage with a 11' ceiling that had 3 bulbs in the ceiling. I installed this light in the center location, and bought $15 motion sensors for the other 2 800 lumen bulbs (the sensors screw into the socket and the bulbs screw into the motion detector base). The garage is brighter, but in my head i was expecting brightness like a spot light bulb and this is very diffuse (but brighter) light, which actually is better. I can tell that it is brighter by how at night it causes shadows. The shadows impacted mostly by this bulb are dark, but the other shadows are lighter. This is because the Striker light is bright enough to reduce the shadows caused by the other bulbs, but not vice-a-versa.

On cost: the cost actually is probably a good price, but a bit hard to swallow at first. If you compare this bulb to LED light fixtures that have 3000-5000 lumens you find these are $80-$100 in price and don't have a motion detector. So the price is probably ok.

The things i like:
- Motion detector: a primary reason i wanted this is the motion detector so the garage would light up when i drive in at night and this detector is excellent. compared to the other detectors i have, this is definitely better.
- Light up the space better: because the light is not a spot but diffuse, a greater area is lit, but not bright like a spot. With 11' ceilings, the light would easily allow you to read by it.
- Ease of installation: some day, i would like to install and wire in a lot of light fixtures to really illuminate the garage, but that takes effort. This is easy. Unscrew the bulb, screw this in. Angle the lights. That's it. That's a big point.

I bought this light for use in my garage and I absolutely love it. It is the most expensive option I saw but to me it is well worth the money. It is well built, looks good, and does a great job.
Most important to me is the support after the sale. I had a performance issue after a year and a half and I couldn't find my receipt. I decided to contact the company anyway. What a surprise! Jennifer Barnes is an awesome representative of the company and an absolute pleasure to deal with. She assured me that my problem would be rectified but I would need to pay the shipping to return the item, which I thought was more than fair. Most places anymore would refuse the request without a receipt. Not only was my request honored but Jennifer seemed sincerely pleased to be of assistance.

Ordered and rec'd just before Christmas. Installed same day. Took minutes. Works well. Light stays on for 80 to 90seconds with no motion. Just a little motion turns it on again. I have a wood door between my garage and house. Just touching the door from the house side causes the light to go on. My point is... I don't have to wave my hands around to make it turn on. Great motion sensor. Plenty of light for a double garage. Brighter than the three 60w incandescent bulbs it replaced.

Because it come on so easily, it ALWAYS illuminates the steps going down into the garage. Now I don't have to add lighting just for the steps.

I think the sensor would be too reactive for a yard or patio light... any motion at all would make it turn on, to the point of being a nuisance.

THESE ARE BRIGHT!!! Great light, only "complaint" is that they are VERY sensitive for motion detection. Sometimes, the sensors can pick up movement through the door. That being said, these are truly awesome lights as they are very bright and clear and have made a huge difference in my garage. Well worth the cost.
