I purchased the TubShroom Chrome Edition because while the colors are "fun" they seemed a bit too adolescent for me. It's something you would be proud to show off in your college dorm, perhaps... but not something you'd want in the guest bath of your house. So when I saw they had a "Chrome Edition" - I thought PERFECT! Upon installation, it matches perfectly with the chrome shower fixtures.
EFFECTIVENESS:
Well this definitely does its job... but it might do TOO good of a job because not only does it collect hair, but it also seems to collect shampoo and body wash residue which causes it to clog and need to be cleaned out more than once per week.
My wife's body wash in particular seems to be a bad culprit (she uses the "Dove Deep Moisture" body wash) which for some reason seems to collect and not pass through the holes. It then dries and compounds the problem over multiple showers.
CLEANING:
The good news is - it's REALLY EASY to remove and clean out the hair and is preferable over using one of those "as seen on TV" drain snakes. Those are gross and take forever to clean the drain and I feel like I never get "everything".
FINAL NOTE:
The only thing I didn't realize (which isn't an issue for us as we don't typically use our tub as a "tub") is that you can't actually depress it to fill the tub with water. It will continue to drain until you switch back to the normal plug.
Two women sharing a shower is a recipe for a nightmare of clogged drains and all sorts of "as see on tv" gizmos to remove or prevent them. We've tried everything from what look like plastic hedgehogs that fit over the drain to simple covers with slots in them. Every solution left something to be desired and ultimately didn't work that well.
After having used the TubShroom for a while I can finally say my search for a solution has ended. It's simple, it works, and when you step on it by accident it just squishes flat instead of trying to impale you like the spiky things do. Cleaning is simpler too. Just remove it and pull the hair off the bottom. The tube squishes out of the way so you don't have to take a pair of scissors and cut the hair out like I've had to do with other products.
I'm amazed that such a simple design is so effective. Finally a lifelong battle with the drain is over. One less thing to worry about.
I purchased this to replace an old hair trapper because I liked the idea of having the hairs being collected out of sight. Well, it didn't really bother me, but my partner hates the sight of hair -perhaps because it is a constant reminder that he is going bald! So, this TubShroom was a welcomed change in the shower. I can report that it works like a charm! ... if you know how to place it properly. This might sound obvious, but since there are several bad reviews on this product (that almost prevented my purchase) I thought I would share my experience. When placing the Tubshroom, remember it is not a plug. Yes, it has 4 holes on the tub, but those are for overflow, that's not where the water with the hairs is supposed to drain through. The water should flow through the sides, so when placing it in the drain, make sure it is lifted 1/4 inch or more. In my experience (I have long hair and shed like a labrador), if the water is not draining as fast, it's time to clean the shroom. Toss the hair ball away and the water goes back to flowing normally. If you have a water-wasting shower, make sure the 4 holes from the chrome attachment are aligned with the 4 holes from the lower rubber and that will help prevent water from accumulating.
Works and looks great. SUPER easy to clean. We initially bought one of those spiky design ones but it looked disgusting when it trapped hair and it was a pain to clean out. But this traps the hair UNDER the lid so you don't see it, and the hair comes right off with one tug. Love it. I also love the fact that the main body is rubbery so that when you step on it, it doesn't hurt.
This is the perfect hair-catching tub drain filter! This device is designed in such a way that long hair is curled around a collapsible center section while the water drains thru holes in both the top and sides of that section. When the water stops draining, just pull the stopper out of the drain, press gently on the center section to decrease the diameter so the hair slides off neatly into toilet paper. Roll the hairball up and throw it in a trash can. Replace the stopper and it is ready to continue protecting your plumbing and septic system from unnecessary hair clogs. I got the one with a chrome top and it looks like it came with the tub. I highly recommend this device for use in all tubs, especially those used by girls with long hair!

Description
We face a myriad of challenges each and every day. Cleaning clogged drains, thankfully, no longer has to be one of them--thanks to the TubShroom. TubShroom is a bathtub hair stopper fits snug inside your shower tub drain, effortlessly gathering each and every hair that tries to make its way down your vulnerable drain. It's the hero you deserve in your bathroom. You can rest easy knowing that TubShroom works great for all kinds of hair-- human and pet alike. No more exorbitant bills from the plumber and no more having to use harmful chemical-based drain cleaners that damage your pipes.
I bought this after 3 other drain nets. With all of the others I've used, hair is collected so quickly that I'd have to empty it 2-3 times during a single shower just to not stand ankle deep in water. I was skeptical that the Tub Shroom would work but my god the thing is a miracle! It catches all of the hair and other gunk but only obstructs the drain's flow when it needs to be cleaned which is maybe once a week at most for my girlfriend and me. It looks good in our bath tub too. The chrome option they have matches our fixtures perfectly. It honestly just looks like part of the tub. It's a little gross cleaning it but compared to most mesh catches or nets it's so much easier! I'd swear by this thing now.
Don’t you LOVE it when things simply do EXACTLY what they were intended to?
This looks great in the tub and actually catches all the hair (there was none in the drain), and because it’s bendy, it’s very easy to remove the hair as well. EVERY TUB SHOULD HAVE THIS!
This thing does exactly what it promises - it catches hair before it enters the drain. I use it in my shower because I shed hair like I'm going bald. I have to clean it a couple times a week and it is disgusting, but cleaning any drain trap will be. It is so easy though - I just grab a wad of toilet paper, grab onto the hair glob, and pull it off from the bottom. I gag every time, but whatever - it is doing its job. My one complaint is about the durability. I use bleach spray to clean my bathtub. The first time I cleaned my tub after buying the TubShroom, I didn't remove it from the drain while cleaning. I didn't think it would be an issue. However, when I took my TubShroom out a day or two later, the bleach had eaten away at some of the rubber body. It hasn't affected the performance at all, but I wish the packaging would've notated that it needed to be removed prior to using harsh cleansers. I would definitely recommend removing it before cleaning your tub if you use bleach, in order to extend the life of the TubShroom.
Folks this is it...Finally a hair catcher that really works! I "installed" this last year and waited to be disappointed as with all other hair catchers. But then it happened. Month after month and the drain was running at full tilt. Finally out of curiosity I pulled out the built-in tub drain coil and there were two hairs - which to be fair I forgot to put the Shroom in place two times when washing my 12" long hair. But even more incredible, there was no soap scum build-up or "black stuff" in the drain pipe. I think the Shroom keeps the drain so clean because water is always running at full tilt helping to keep the drain pipe free of build up. I dutifully clean all hairs from the Shroom after each shower and recommend doing so. I do use drain enyzmes but have never seen such a clean drain after one year. The only negative is that after about six months, the Shroom began sporting a little mildew that I couldn't clean off. But given the spectacular performance of the Shroom I can live with that, especially since other hair catchers became hopelessly mildewed much worse in much less time. If you have a drain you need a Shroom!
Wow! Three long haired woman in the house and this thing caught a hair ball the size of a small mouse in the first week!
Money well spent!
