Kano Pixel Kit – Learn to code with light

Pixel is a great and simple way to introduce youngsters to programming. The kit goes together quickly and you can be up an going in about 5 minutes. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. With the built-in apps and games, there is an immediate sense of limitless possibilities. The app is a plug-and-play wrapper (for Java script?) and the examples demonstrate just a few of the many things you can do with the Pixel, including downloading your apps to the unit.

I did have two issues: first, the joystick button needed to be trimmed so that it would activate the switch in all 4 directions. Could have just been my button, and I was easily able to fix with a flat file. Second, the microphone currently only works with the built-in apps, which was disappointing, but Kano had disabled it due to WiFi lag limitations and is working on a fix.

Overall, this is a rather inexpensive way to introduce kids to programming in a fun and interactive way that they will not soon forget!

Kano's Pixel Kit is a fun way to learn how to code, my son and I enjoyed trying it out and learning about all the ways we could interact with the pixel kit. Getting started was easy and my son enjoyed being able to help build it.

We had one or two times when the pixel become nonresponsive, however restarting the pixel kit resolved the issue.

The interactivity of the pixel kit is our favorite thing about it. Being able to not only code what we want to display; then for my son to be able to interact with it with the sensors, it added a new layer of experience.

The only two challge is that the lights are too bright and that the booking lights hurt my son's eyes. they offer a filter to dim the lights, however, I am not sure what to do about the impact of the blinking lights on a developing brain.

This is an amazing device that has quite a potential for learning coding. The LED display is bright and very vibrant. Purchased this for my cousins and even became a little jealous of this Stem toy. I want one lol. My little nitpick though is the Joystick to help navigate. It doesn't respond well and makes the games seem less playable. It looks like every other button and is difficult to accuate (Tilting in this case, its horrible.). I might suggest a small D-pad or a tiny joystick like you'd find on Sony's PS Vita.

I liked this product overall, but it does have some flaws. I think it's a great idea to get kids more involved in the building and understanding of tech, and Kano products are a great way to get started with that. That being said, this is not my favorite Kano product to achieve that goal. The product is cute, has cool lights, and is fun. However, the power button was not attached to the product when I received it, so in order to turn it on or off, we had to remove/put in the battery. This became a hassle and the modes were somewhat difficult to remember, so my kids lost interest quicker than I would have liked...too bad. Would still recommend this product overall, though.

This is a good addition to the Kano computer kit. It is a fun kit that further gets kids (and adults) thinking in “code” which is an invaluable thing these days. Yes it has to be connected to a computer running the Kano app, or via WiFi - not a big deal at all. It’s fun, engaging and important for developing skills in a fun and challenging environment.

I have always loved all of Kano’s products, and this one does not disappoint either! It’s a great, compact, and perfectly priced device that allows provides a portable platform for learning and teaching coding skills. One of the best parts about it is that it is compatible with just about any device that can connect to it, not just the Kano Computer Kit! The LED’s are incredibly bright and vibrant, and the case is solid and well built. Love this little gadget!

My older sons are into computer coding and we are always looking for ways to get my younger son interested in coding too. Well the Kano Pixel Kit really did the trick. He got so engrossed with it we started calling him a "coding monster". It was nice that he was able to figure the whole thing out on his own. He was really proud of the the different projects he made.

This is great. My son loves it, the instructions are easy to follow, and the tutorials they have make this kit really easy to use out of the box. I'm definitely going to purchase some of the add-ons for this kit.

Kano makes great learning toys for kids! I particularly love the way that their instructions break down how to put together their products - but more importantly what the different parts do when assembled. My kids now understand LEDs and how information can be sent to them with the controller switches. Been a fan since their first Kano PC and continue to enjoy the new and interesting products they are adding to the line.

This is a different way to learn to code, my kid loves to interact with mic to see how colors and patterns can change. You will need a laptop with USB port to code and to load programs (3) that you create in the app.
Main advantage is that you see a physical result (lights) of what you are coding
