This part review is for the Timbuk2 Kindle and Kindle Touch ENVELOPE SLEEVE, Grey/Cold Blue.
I bought this item for myself in a batch for Xmas this December, two of each of the selected items, one for me and one as a gift for my sister. I love that my brand new Kindle Touch, Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display - includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers fits perfectly and snugly, which i love, since my kindle won't be sliding up and down inside. The sleeve is flexible but still sturdy enough to give support when the device is in, plus has enough padding to protect the kindle but not enough to make it too bulky. Looks and feels well constructed, and the Velcro works fine. The size fits perfectly in my purse (which is on the small side, however it is a baggy, jean purse so that counts). I also switch a lot between my purse and my backpack (with all my college books in it) and i feel that my kindle will be protected from the hassles of living in either one while i'm walking around.
I'm docking a star for the following:
I have to point out that the one of the grey colors looks slightly different from the picture. The sleeve, when placed with its front to you and on its bottom (the flap opening upwards), has a dark (jean-like) grey color on its left, a beautiful sky blue on the center, and a light grey on its right. The Light grey looks more like a dirty grey vs the color in the picture, making it look a little off; my father, when he saw it, kept calling it cream color (he said the grey-blue-cream sleeve). In addition, the light grey color feels like plastic compare to the rest of the case which feels like a piece of canvas cloth.
Something i would have love for this to have (and it would have been extremely convenient too) is an small outer pocket or something of the like. A place to keep the USB cable and wall power adapter safe and together. As it is, my cable is dancing from surface to surface while not in use and it can easily get lost. I don't think that there is a case for the kindle touch out there yet that addresses this issue; if it is and you've seen it please let me know on the comments, that would be a great fix.
I also bought the same sleeve but in another color but as a gift for my sister:
This part of the review is for the Timbuk2 Kindle and Kindle Touch ENVELOPE SLEEVE, Black/Gunmetal/Red.
Like I said above, the construction of the item is exactly like i described before, perfect for the kindle touch and very protective of the device.
The only difference is the color scheme. The colors in this particular item are very deep, rich, very dark colors, which makes it look amazing and my sister loved when she saw it on Christmas morning. The material seems to be canvas.
Like with mine, a small outer pocket or something of the like would have been an amazing addition.
I bought the Timbuk2 Envelope Sleeve Case in Grey/Cold Blue in January 2012 for my Kindle Touch (wifi only version). It fits this particular Kindle version perfectly- not too loose and not too tight. It's a solid and well-made product that safely holds and protects my Kindle from drops and kids. I love the color but the red interior I could do without (just don't like the color, nothing wrong with it physically). I definitely feel it's worth the price and does what it promises.
Good to know info: You cannot read with the book in this case, nor can you charge it while in this case. It uses velcro instead of a magnet to close the case, which is comforting (I've heard magnets do harm to electronics and why take an unnecessary risk?). The fabric is somewhat stain-resistant, though that isn't a guarantee. It's not cloth, but it's not plastic; it's a nice in-between material that doesn't feel cheap. The red interior has not caused any trouble for my Kindle and it's in the case whenever I'm not reading. I would buy this case again, for myself in the future or for a gift.
Update Oct. 31, 2012
Still going strong! The velcro is still like new, the interior is still in good condition (no shedding, but some light wear from the velcro), the cover is still in great condition. I have 4 kids that play hard and don't leave my stuff alone and my Kindle is still always safe in this case.
I like to keep things simple, I used to be the guy that bought all the accessories to the devices, I spent more money on accessories than in the device itself to later find out I just used a [couple of them, so I decided to keep it simple and now I just buy a sleeve, case, or whatever per device, once they break I buy another one. This sleeve is all you need for the Kindle, the device itself is already lightweight and small, and this sleeve protects it very well, you don't have space for a cable, thats true, but the battery on this device lasts very long so there is no need to carry around the cable or any other thing. the material feels good quality and the interior is soft so it won't scratch your kindle.
In summary, if you got a kindle touch instead of a kindle fire, it means you like it simple too as I do, with this sleeve the kindle is still less than half a paperback book in width.
I read all the reviews. Too big, too little. Snug, too snug. Magnet strips, Velcro strips.
Here is the rundown:
The item I received "Timbuk2 Kindle and Kindle Touch ENVELOPE Sleeve Case, Black/Gunmetal/Red" fits the Kindle Touch perfectly, snugly (6.8" x 4.7" x 0.40" (172 mm x 120 mm x 10.1 mm)) and is kept securely closed using Velcro strips. You could also bundle the cord with it and stuff it inside but you may risk losing the cord every time you remove your Kindle.
The Title of the listing implies that it fits other models as well. If your Kindle Model is bigger than the Kindle Touch (6.8" x 4.7" x 0.40" (172 mm x 120 mm x 10.1 mm)), "IT MAY NOT FIT". If your Kindle Model is smaller than the Kindle Touch (6.8" x 4.7" x 0.40" (172 mm x 120 mm x 10.1 mm)), "IT WILL FEEL LOOSE INSIDE".
So, if your Kindle doesn't fit the sleeve or it was the wrong color or the sleeve comes any other way than described in it's description, "YOU NEED TO RETURN IT", not complain about it. Amazon has a wonderful and courteous return Department. I have utilized it and speak from experience.
We are very pleased with this product. I hope this review has dispelled some of the negative comments about this product.
Before buying this case, I spent a lot of time reviewing other cases. The price was great, but that wasn't my reason for choosing this one. Some cases are made to fit Kindle like a glove and can remain in the case during use ( of course it could be removed, but the majority of reviews agreed that it did take some effort & care). After much consideration, I knew that wasn't for me. I wanted to be able to take it in and out easily & quickly. And I like holding the Kindle in my hands. Other cases were too flimsy, not padded enough in case of an accidental fall. Some had a button type closure with large enough gaps that I feared may be enough for my KIndle to slip out. I felt this case was best for me, and I love it. It's very sturdy, the velcro closure is super strong. It will not come open. The seam construction will protect my Kindle if dropped. And I love the design.

About Timbuk2
I like this protection envelope for my Kindle. It's super simple, just slide the Kindle in and it's well protected and padded.
I might have bought a different item if I'd thought about the fact that there's no way to attach the Kindle to a USB cord while it's in the sleeve. Also--I have only used my Kindle at home so far so I can just keep the sleeve on the table by my chair. It's occurred to me that when I take it elsewhere to use it, I'd prefer to have a notebook format that holds the Kindle while I'm reading it so there's no problem with misplacing the sleeve.
So, overall a very well-designed product, but keep the limitations in mind.
When I was shopping for protection for my Kindle, I had a decision to make. Did I want a cover that would fold out and allow me to read my Kindle without removing it and even making it feel more like a book, or did I want the envelope sleeve? I went with the envelope sleeve because I like the feel of the naked Kindle. My Kindle touch fits snuggly into this sleeve and offers great protection when it is accidently dropped. Great value for the price. The color selection leaves a little to be desired, though. I got the black because that's the only one I could stomach.
This case was exactly what I was looking for. It is a rugged case that will stand up to plenty of wear and tear. It will also stand up to my kids knocking off my kindle from my nightstand (they keep their bedtime books there too). I don't have to worry about it ever getting scratched like a leather or fake leather case would. I can just toss it in my laptop bag, which I purchased one of those too when I saw how durable my Kindle case was. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. It is a bit expensive, but it comes with a LIFETIME warranty. How many other Kindle cases can say that? I purchase the Green/Grey Timbuk2 Kindle + Kindle Touch Ballistic Envelope Sleeve with 360 degree protection, Green/Grey one and the colors on the picture are exactly as in the picture.
Between us my wife and I have bought three different styles of protective cases for our Kindles. This is by far my favorite. It is a simple sleeve with velcro closure (very fast open and close) with enough padding to give good protection against drops. I find I greatly prefer having no case at all when actually reading. When done it takes two seconds to stash the Kindle in the case and close it securely and toss it in your backpack or purse or on the bedside table. It also has enough room for the charger cord. I find it much more convenient than the cases that stay attached even when you are using the device. Great product.
I bought this sleeve because the other case I have for my Kindle Paper White kept turning it on when I shut the flap. I guess there was something wrong with the sleep/wake function; so I did not want another case like that. Anyway I love the Timbuk2 Ballistic Envelope Sleeve for Kindle with 360 degree protection. Not only is the case perfect for keeping your Kindle safe and secure, but the design (Lola Floral Mulberry) is beautiful too! The sleeve is nicely padded without being too bulky (in my opinion). The Kindle won't move a cm inside it. Also the (Velcro) flap stays pretty snugly in place. I don't think you can find a better case/sleeve for the price.
