SiriusXM Sound Station - Internet radio by Grace Digital - GDI-SXTTR2

My mom, at 96, has mild-to-moderate (depends on the day) cognitive impairment from vascular dementia -- not Alzheimer's. Still, her short term memory is shot, and her ability to "lay down" new brain pathways, something along the lines of the "50 First Dates" movie. Getting her to remember to say "Alexa" or "Computer" or "Siri" before asking a question was a non-starter. I wanted something that just lets her hear a variety of the songs of her generation -- Sinatra, Big Band and Swing, Broadway Musicals, and some other choices -- via a simple on-off button, or punch-buttons to switch stations -- tapping into memory of how radios used to operate when she was younger. This dandy device does that. I took yellow nail polish and painted a big circle around the on-off button on the top of the machine, and she's in business. I haven't seen her this happy since before my dad, her soulmate, passed away!

Warning:
You must have a Sirius Internet plan for this radio to work. This is a totally separate plan than what you may have in your car Typically if you have a car plan, you can bundle this with the internet plan for a reduced cost. Also this radio will only receive Sirius content. Other internet radio channels are not allowed

I bought this as a replacement to the Sirius TTR1, which stopped working. I find this to be a very good radio. Here are my pros/cons

Pro:
Very good speaker quality. Even on low volume the sound fills a room.
On Demand accessibility. This is is one of the best features of the radio
Improved WiFi capability over the TTR1
Remote control comes with the radio.

Con:
Initial setup is very cumbersome. You have to dial through the series of letters and numbers for each new entry. It took me 15 mins to get the radio set up and linked to my Sirius account
LCD display is to bright. In a darkened room the LCD fills the room with light. Even turning down the settings down to the lowest level does not alleviate the issue. I had to cover the LCD display to darken my bedroom. Honestly I almost returned the radio because of this, but the positives of the radio outweighed the negatives.

I owned a couple of the older TTR1 models and used them for years. Once they no longer worked reliably I was hoping to see another one come out. Was thrilled to see the new TTR2 model and it is much better than the old one. Yes it's a bit tedious to set it up with turning the dial so much for letter input but what can you expect without a keyboard. It isn't as bad as some say on here but then again I had two of the older ones that did the same thing and got used to it. This one is faster to get that information into the radio even if it is done with a dial.

The sound is excellent for it's size and I expect that I will eventually wear the two new TTR2s out as well. Just having a color full graphic display makes it a lot easier to work with. It's much easier than having to add a small regular Sirius radio to a dock with speakers and orient that antennae so you can get it direct from the satellites. I did that a lot before the TTR1 came out. NO MORE!

Great design by Grace Digital by the way!!!!! Kudos for another great Grace product!!!!

I’ve owned the original TTR1 for years. It recently quit working. Found the TTR2 available and what a great improvement over the old one. I’m really impressed with this new model. The design of the TTR2 is a huge step up. The sound is from just one speaker but it’s still acceptable. Took it out of the box and had it up and running with no problems.

Awesome radio. Love having sirius xm in the house. It took a bit of time to set up, but it's been working great since. Two things I wish it had: a battery option so you could use it without an ac cord, and definitely a better instruction manual. It's great because you can customize the alarm clock feature. I did move it to another room and I didn't have to reset it. It didn't lose the settings. Great radio.

Bought two of these. One for my mom and one for my mother in law. Mom is 82 and uses it every day. It's so simple to use after initial setup, just like turning on a radio. Needless to say, mom is not a technology fan, so this is perfect for her and the sound is surprisingly good. It plays in the living room, but can hear it quite well in the kitchen, dining room and bedrooms. If you want a simple way to listen to Sirius XM, this is it. Else, get an Alexa like I have in my home.

Well I have to say this...First of all this came overnight when I selected Prime shipping 2 day for free! Very happy about that. Set up was somewhat cumbersome but I easily got through it and BAM I was streaming Sirius radio! I am thrilled with this purchase. I now have Sirius in my car, in my office and at my home outside near the fire pit!!! I would 100% recommend this to anyone to wants to listen to their Sirius radio outside of their car. I had to add streaming to my plan for an extra $4 a month but it will be worth every penny!!!!

Great radio for listening to SiriusXM! And yes, it is only for listening to SiriusXM. Does have the option to line-in if you wanted to listen to other services through an app or other source. Online listening is included with an All Access subscription, or is an add-on subscription to lower level packages. You can also subscribe to internet only listening. Great sound in a small package. I suppose if you're an audiophile it may leave something to be desired, but I think for the average person listening to music or talk radio you'll be satisfied. Really seems to fill the room. Other reviews have mentioned difficulty in connecting to WIFI. I haven't had issues with that but my radio sits literally a foot or so away from the WIFI access point - perhaps the receiver is not as powerful as it could be. Initial setup is a bit cumbersome having to go through the entire alphabet/numeric with a knob control to log into your account, but it is only a one time set up and not that big of a deal. Only "issue" I've had is that once every few days audio will cut out and there will be a message that playback has stopped because the account is logged in on another device. I do listen to SiriusXM through the phone/tablet app while working out which I suspect is causing the issue. Just walk over and press play, or use the remote to do the same, and it starts right up again and only recurs if I again listen on the app. Nothing major. Ten presets seems to be enough to accommodate your favorite channels and searching is easy enough to scroll through with the knob control. Ability to restart programs already in progress and to access on demand content. Also, when changing channels it will automatically go to the beginning of whatever song is in progress so you don't come into the middle of song.

All in all, this is a great radio and SiriusXM is a great service with quality and varied programming. Highly recommended!

This is really a great device for those looking to benefit from their subscription at home.

While Alexa can play those stations, unless you know all of the numbers of the channels you want, that is very difficult to do with those devices. It also doesn't tell you what group or singer is playing on a song should you like it enough to want to know.

This device provides those answers and allows you to save 10 favorite channels for easy access.

Great sound too!

I just received the sound station yesterday and am already enjoying the music. I chose this particular model for price, ease of use, able to play all Sirius channels WITH album art, and not only as a stand alone receiver/player but also to be able to play through my stereo system via its headphone output. The quality as a stand alone may not be as good as a Bose Wave, but still quite good. I love the album art that shows up also just like it does in my car. Setting up initially took no more than 20 minutes which involves connecting to my WiFi with password then connecting to my Sirius account. That was it. The model is very easy to use and I already have stored (up to 10 presets) my favorite channels.
Another feature is if I miss part of a song when I get to a particular channel I hit a back button that plays the song from the beginning. I'm very pleased with this product and the fact that I can get SiriusXM radio in my home is quite cool.
