Sideclick Universal Remote Attachment for Roku streaming player

Having enjoyed the Sideclick remote for the Amazon Fire TV (used it with both the stick and the box, 5-stars for both applications), I decided it was high time to end the situation of having a TV remote, sound bar remote, and Roku remote in my bedroom. My toddler, now 4 (was 3 in my previous review) still has this great fascination with remotes =-) so the less of them hanging around the better. I include all this, as these days people are skeptical of emphatically positive online reviews. However, I can assure you I am in fact no shill (don't think shills make videos while wearing ugly socks.. hope my wife doesn't see this), this product is legitimately one of the best thing's I've ever purchased tech wise when it comes to value, quality and ease of use and it helps with my toddler remote bandit!

The packaging is well done, and easy to open, the device is very simple to install and fits flush solidly with the Roku remote. The remote fits into the bracket securely without being hard to install (was able to remove and replace it while filming the review while still holding the phone).

Programming is so easy, I actually do it one handed on my counter in the video review, I mean it.. can't get much easier than that. The IR range is equivalent to my normal remotes, haven't ever had an issue, and battery life has been superb so far, haven't replaced the stock set of batteries in my Fire TV sideclick (which is the same device just a different bracket) and I've owned it for several months of daily use.

This product is a great example of a start-up that managed their product development team, marketing team, and QA teams very well, and it resulted in a product I've recommended at work, and to family members (just purchased another Fire TV side click for my parents today). If they can tempt me to make a video review (my first ever) while in my socks eating my breakfast, it's probably a pretty good product.

Stop the remote bandits in your house today! Get a sideclick =-)

This is a great product. I was tired of using three remotes in my living room. It's easy to snap to the Roku remote and even easier to program. The range is good and doesn't require weird angles for adjusting my sound bar. I just wish there were an extra button or two. If a new model comes out with at least one extra button I will buy it in a heartbeat.

My buttons are setup below from top to bottom.
- TV power
- Sound bar volume up (also turns it on)
- Sound bar volume down
- TV arrow right (this also acts as "select" on my TV)
- TV arrow down
- TV menu (allows me to navigate the long way to different inputs and sleep timer. This is why I'd like at least one more button.)
- Sound bar optical input
- Sound bar Bluetooth input

If my sound bar would cycle through inputs rather than have a specific IR function for each, then I guess I could gain back the extra button I want. I may purchase another Sideclick for my bedroom in the future.

1/31/2018:
I forgot this was in my lap and when I stood up and turned I kicked it pretty hard for being an accident. It flew away from me, hitting the floor and sliding until it smashed a 1" lip with a metal guard. The Roku remote only slid a small amount out of the clip, but was still held in place with plenty of force. I was worried when I saw the power and volume buttons of the Sideclick depressed. It turned out the casing by the IR sensor popped open. I popped it back in easily and everything was fine.

This thing is pretty sturdy.

This was an amazing find. I hated that the Roku remote couldn't control the volume or turn on/off the TV. This item allows one to add control features from different remotes. I made the power, button turn on/off the TV; the plus/minus buttons control the TV volume. The "A" button turns on the home theater system. The up and down arrows control the theater system volume. Sweet! Now I can use one control. The instructions were very brief and didn't explain the process well. You have to face the infra red of the remote you wish to minic to the infra red of this device, and push the button on the device you wish to mimic. The way this clips to the Roku is very secure. It's not that easy to snap off.

Stumbled across this in an article when researching cord cutting strategies. I have a Roku Ultra and have struggled with having to use a universal remote to turn on my TV and sound bar. This is a genius and simple idea, and it allows you to continue using the RF Roku remote and hide the box out of site. It takes your universal, and attaches it to the Roku remote. It was super easy to program and works like a charm. I have no problem at all with how it "feels in your hand". The other advantage is when my mother-in-law comes over to babysit, she can figure out the TV much easier than my Harmony remote.

The Cons: It does cover the headphone jack, but in my living room I don't really use that feature much. Also, it only uses single function buttons. So, that means the power button turns the tv on only. I had to program the extra A button to turn my sound bar off and on. Not the worst thing in the world, but someone I'd love to see in a future model. For any advanced navigation on the TV I'll need to pull out the original remote, but 90% of the time this thing gets the job done.

Nice addition to the Roku remote. Adds basic remote functions to your Roku remote. It is slim enough that you should have no problem reaching all the buttons with the thumb of one hand.

This will not completely replace your TV remote or a full universal remote since you have just 8 buttons to work with., power, volume up/down, channel up/down, input, A, B. Programming took a little more effort than I expected since My LG remote only uses IR for the power button. All other functions use radio frequency. If your TV remote uses RF instead of IR for most of its functions you either need a full featured universal remote or a phone with IR emitter and remote control app like the Peel remote app to program things like volume, channel, input. The remote doesn't have a dedicated mute, but the A or B buttons can be programmed to serve as your mute and remaining button programmed to 1 more function of your choice.

One other very minor drawback, the Sideclick covers the headphone jack. Easy fix is to use the Roku Smartphone app and use your phone's headphone jack instead for private listening. This has the added bonus of no longer draining your remote's batteries quite a bit faster when you want to use headphones. You can also just remove the Slideclick pretty easily to get access to the headphone jack.

I bought my first 1 of these on a bit of a impulse in a store. I quickly feel in love. We use Roku everywhere in our house. All 7 of the 8 TVs have one and the 1 without is a Sharp Roku TV so it is built in. Anyway having multiple remotes is a massive pain. These do not work for big AV systems because they can't handle that many functions. So we use a Logitech on our Home Theater but I now have these on all 6 other systems. For all other purposes these are excellent I highly recommend them. The only drawbacks to them is that they block the headset jack. and a mute button. Now for the headset jack you can pull it off or move it way down but that is not ideal. For the mute button you can use any button you like but that is not ideal. Mute is one of the more common TV functions so it really should have a dedicated labeled button. Even with these drawbacks this is a great product.

I've only had this for a couple of days and it's already a household favorite - its utilitarian functionality is two-fold in not only eliminating an entire remote control from the coffee table, but also consolidating the number of buttons down to the most commonly-used ones.

The remote and the clip are well-built, easy to put on, and once attached to the Roku remote feel solid with no wiggle at all. The remote came with batteries and simple, easy to follow instructions which are also posted on their website. The remote learning function is extremely easy to access and program. I did have to enter learn mode and then exit after each button program, as though it were 'saving' it before moving to the next button, but it had no issue learning each button code for an InFocus projector.

The only downside, as others have noted, is that clip covers up the Roku Remote's 3.5mm audio jack. I suppose you could just mount the SideClick on the other side upside down, but it'd be nice if they just made it attach on the right-side of the Roku Remote instead - it's not a huge loss since I don't use the audio port that often but others may. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone with a Roku and/or the other media players that they also support.

My husband bought a “universal” remote thinking it would work with our Roku stick and we wouldn’t have to have multiple remotes anymore. Even though the advertising on the universal one he purchased said “Roku compatible” we found out after we started programming that it was not going to work. After a few minutes of Google searching I came across this sideclick device and purchased it after reading reviews. I just connected it and programmed it right now and it’s working amazingly well! I am very happy we now only have one remote to deal with, especially since we’ve gotten rid of our cable and now use streaming TV and apps. Highly recommend!! Note: there are several device options, so make sure you don’t buy one for a Roku if you need it for a Fire stick, or whatever.

I'd used my Dish Network remotes to control TVs and stereos in my various rooms. I wanted to cut the cord but didn't want to go back to multiple remotes. This is *PERFECT*. First of all, this appears to be the new model. It fit my 2018 Roku Ultras no problem. It also worked on my 2 2016 Roku Sticks.

Programming couldn't be simpler. You can even program multiple devices to the same Sideclick. For example, I have one where some buttons control my surround sound receiver and others control the TV. PERFECT!

My wife and I have now cut the cord and can use a single remote (well, Roku + Sideclick) to control everything we need to control. I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

Currently, I'm controlling these extra devices: Samsung TV, Sony TV, Vizio TV, Toshiba TV, Sony surround sound receiver, Yamaha surround sound receiver. All work perfectly. I was worried that the volume might not work right, but I can hold down the volume button and it goes up and down just as it does on the original remotes.

The legacy equipment we have is a TCL 39 Inch tv purchased 4 years ago---a ROKU 3 purchased close to the same time --- The sound is channeled through an older Cambridge Soundworks AM-FM radio that we received as a gift even more years ago.
So....first find the TV remote to turn on the screen...Then find the small radio remote to have control of volume and then grabbing the Roku remote to select programming. It was much like playing "Remote-Three Card Monte" in your lap to get everything to work.
Decided to give this device a try. Read the directions. In ten minutes had the Sideclick programmed to turn on the radio and had buttons to increase and decrease volume. Programmed another button to turn the TV on and off. Attached to the current Roku remote. Voila! The "Three Remote Juggle" has been eliminated! Nice job folks!
