I've done some research prior to acquiring my Lynx Solar camera as I looked at a few other options. I wanted it to be Solar so I don't have to run a dedicated power cable to an outlet which would have require some unsightly and costly modifications to my house. Everything was accessible from a mobile phone or tablet and it also retains 7 days of free capture which was a huge bonus! This camera met all my expectations and more.
What I like most (Pros):
-Super easy to set up.
-The Solar panels and camera are both heavy. They felt sturdy so it appears to be well-constructed.
-The connectors includes a tight-twisting cap to shield against weather conditions. A subtle inclusion that I don't often see with other products.
-There's multiple mounting brackets to help place it on literally any location. I decided to mount mine to a slanted vertical beam.
-The quality of the daylight recording is amazing. The camera also appears to have a very wide field of vision.
-The app can manage multiple cameras which is an excellent feature. There are a lot of granularity in the settings.
-The facial recognition feature is cool, allowing the ability to set up filters for time stamping specific individuals.
What I like least (Cons):
-The instruction booklet is kind of small. Considering its fairly easy to setup, I guess there wasn't a need to really make a complicated instructions manual.
Product came nicely packed and seem to be a quality build. Mounting and connecting the camera and solar panel was straightforward despite not having detailed instructions. Was very happy with the image quality during the day and at night. Tend app is user friendly. One downside is that it does take about 30s to wake up when trying to live stream. But Its worth it as I’m able to monitor my backyard without needing an electrical outlet. Facial recognition is a cool feature.
After 3 days, the camera died and wouldn’t turn on no matter what I did. I contacted customer service who was very helpful and received a replacement in 5 days. The new camera has been up and running for over a month now without any issues. Very happy with the product.
Will update after several more months of use.
I just got the Lynx Solar camera from Amazon about a week ago and I love it! It linked seamlessly via my home WiFi with the Tend Secure app, which ALSO displays both WiFi signal and Battery Life, a practical and convenient update! After charging the camera with the optional power cable, I ‘soft’ mounted it in a couple locations to see what I liked. While the plastic mounting kit makes it easy to install, I wouldn’t mount it as a front door security camera unless it is high out of reach. Also, I saw a glare while viewing at night because it was too close to the overhanging eaves. That said, I’m VERY impressed with the picture and battery life—I haven’t plugged in the included solar panel yet since I’m still trying to find the best location for it. I’ve been checking in on it for several DAYS now, and it’s only at 73%! This is a VERY easy to use camera with a very easy to use app!
Great product! It's actually a bit heavier than I thought. After opening the box, the weight was all in the solar panel which is nice. It feels really sturdy and high quality. I wasn't sure at first if the solar panel will survive outside, but after seeing it, I'm feeling really confident. The camera setup was really easy and the app is easy to use, very good quality video. I've been looking for an outdoor camera for awhile and being able to use solar power is a huge plus. I don't have a lot of power outage in my area, but my WiFi definitely cuts in and out every now and then. It looks like there's backup on the camera which makes me feel better that I won't miss anything. I am very happy with my purchase.
We have 7 other cameras at home but all have had issues with glare with our constantly changing cloudy weather to fog to thunderstorms and more. We have had burglaries and camera footage was a pain to skim through and even when we did the cameras did not provide much but lagging footage of a blurred face.
This camera holds well outdoors and it is perfect that it only stores footage when there is motion. Image and sound quality beats all our other cameras and we have been very impressed thus far. We installed the solar panel just fine but decided to remove it and just plug it in to avoid any damage in future hurricane seasons.
Very impressed.

I am impressed! I have worked with more than 20 different types of wifi cameras and make my own solar powered cameras based on open source components. It's great for its price. There are a few things to know about it's operation
- when it's in low light, there is about 2-3 second delay where it switches from normal vision to night vision when you access the camera. You can see this in the video as infra-red is not engaged until motion is detected. This causes an initial glow where objects can not be made out fully like a camera flash. So if an intruder is moving quicker in a small field of view, you may not catch a clear picture of them or even totally miss what object triggered the motion recording.
- there is no "pre-record" as in, recording is engaged perhaps a second or two after motion is detected. Some cameras will include seconds before motion was detected but with this camera that is not the case.
I believe a lot of this delay is due to the fact it's solar/battery powered and it's conserving power so it's important to make sure the camera has a field of view that accounts for the delay in video recording.
I'm super impressed with the quality of the components. It's not too often that you get such a strong base and heavy components (only heavy because of the durability) and strength for this price range, even the threading for the bolts is really, really nice and easy to assemble. I love all the attention to small details and part quality.
The video quality is also fantastic. Thanks Lynx!
Great functionality! It’s my first time owning a home security camera and you definitely cannot go wrong with this one. I don’t have access to an outdoor AC outlet so this camera gave me flexibility that other cameras on the market did not. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase and hope to buy an indoor camera soon as well.
Never had/saw a solar powered security camera before. This one has been working great! I installed it near the roof of my building and the construction of the product is very sturdy. The camera itself is sleek in design with clear night vision which is why I bought this camera. Overall, I would recommend checking it out.
The picture during the day is great, sound is great. Easy to set up and install. The night vision is typical but could be better. For some reason our solar panel didn't want to stay angled up when installed but still catches sun. Don't like that you can't set up multiple phones to same camera. If each person uses the same log in and someone else logs in it boots the other person off. This would be so much better if that option was available. Other than that we love it. Let's you know when there's motion and I love being able to hear what's going on.
The Lynx Solar Weatherproof Outdoor WiFi Surveillance Camera is absolutely amazing! It captures anyone walking up to our front door and I don't have to plug it to an outlet - the camera is powered by solar. Furthermore, the whole set up was fairly simple. Great product at an affordable price! Definitely recommend it!
