Kuhn Rikon Kinderkitchen Dog Knife with Teeth

I bought this knife for my daughter last year when she turned 3. She loves to help out in the kitchen, and this allowed her to take another step toward helping with meal prep as well as cutting her own food at the table. In the kitchen she chops vegetables for soups and other dishes. Carrots and potatoes are her favorites to cut. She has even managed to cut very thin carrot slices with it. She's never had any kind of injury from this knife. The blade is made such that it would be pretty difficult to cut skin, but I wondered if it would slip off of a carrot and cause a blunt injury of some kind. Hasn't happened. She's able to cut all kinds of raw and cooked vegetables, as well as cooked meats, though this takes a little more effort and does not produce a clean cut. The knife has held up well over the last year's worth of washings in the dishwasher and still looks like new. It seems very well made and my daughter loves it. I highly recommend this for children who are ready to start learning knife skills.

I felt very comfortable letting my kids (6,8) help with cuttIng with this knife. It is serrated so the kids kind of “saw” the peppers, carrots, etc. I used my chef knife in the veggies that I didn’t want mangled but the kids felt great about helping - it was so nice to be working together

This is a great set for my kids, 5 and 2 years old, to help in the kitchen with. The sizes are great and they are still able to help cut fruit and foods without worrying about them cutting themselves.

These are fantastic for teaching kids basic "sharps" skills. Easy to handle, fun and totally safe yet they really can cut slice and snip without putting little fingers at any risk. They can cut things as solid as raw carrots, mushrooms and radishes yet cannot cut fingers. Its not that there is a guard ( there is ) but they somehow found the perfect width blade that cuts hard foods (and soft) without being a flesh threat. Plus the cute shapes and bright colors appeal to kids. sturdy and easy to handle even for a 3 yr old. My kids LOVE being able to help with prepping dinner with these..

Fantastic. It really taught my daughter to use a knife properly with natural consequences that didn't harm her. The first time she used it, despite my warnings, I heard "ow" under her breath every 30 seconds. But, no cuts beyond a scratch. By the end of a very focused and engaged cutting session, she had it mastered, and now helps cook dinner at age 3.5. Very proud little girl. She also feels strong ownership of the knife with its puppy shape, which is great.

My 4 year old loves to help in the kitchen, and although he is generally a good eater, I've found that he's more willing to eat new dishes if he has helped me to prepare them. Now when I get home from work, we're able to have some quality time together while we prepare dinner together. I'm not sure how they've done it, but this knife is somehow sharp enough to cut apples, carrots, etc. without cutting skin. I'd definitely purchase it again.

My 2 year old started using this at about 18 months. It is sharp enough to cut through soft fruits and vegetables, but it seems too dull to cut skin without a lot of work. He LOVES being able to cut his own food and help with meal prep.

I purchased this for my 6 year-old niece to help with cooking Thanksgiving dinner. She was so excited when she opened it! She was very happy to have a knife that she could actually used. I was happy she had this because it made me feel much better about letting her use it. It didn't take her long to get the hang of it after I showed her, and she was able to help slice apples and a few other fruits. It is a great size and the blade acts more like a saw in my opinion, so it would take some effort to slice a finger. Great product by Kuhn Rikon!

We got this for my son's 2nd birthday because he loves to help in the kitchen. So far he has used it mostly for cutting apples and bell peppers. I slice it into slices and then he uses this knife to chop the slices into pieces. He also snacks on what he is chopping up. I'm perfectly happy to see 1/4 of a bell pepper disappear from him eating it! He's very proud of himself and his 'real' knife. He also loves that it is shaped like a dog. That makes it extra special and fun for him.

A cute kitchen tool for little hands. My 3 year old son enjoys using this knife to cut very soft fruits and vegetables. I understand it was designed this way in order to be safe, unfortunately it is not the most practical. I think the blade could be a little bit longer but I guess it needs to be as dull as it is in order to be safe. It's still a good starting place for your child to help out in the kitchen.
