Koolspace koolR PLUS Wine Cellar Cooling Unit - 600 Cu. Ft.

Just started using it, so have no long-term report. It dropped the temp to 55 degrees and is holding it there. I put in 2 x 6 walls with insulation, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

First one I had lasted just over three years. Not happy about the short lifespan, but it is otherwise well designed and does the job. I am hoping the new one has a longer life but I expect to have the old one repaired and keep it for a spare for the inevitable moment the new one fails.

Came shipped and works well for my needs product meets expectations I use for a wine room that is 200 sq tt

I have used several of these unit. They are easy to install, pretty quiet, and can be easily re-configured for unique uses.

My fathers wine cellar was always warm and would have a bad effect on his wine. Since we bought this unit about 3 years ago the wine cellar stays at a steady 58 degrees, and his wine taste great!!!!! The install took me about 1 hour and was very easy. I would recommend this cooler to family and friends!

Description

Koolspace introduces their koolR series of wine cellar cooling units, a quieter, smaller, smarter way to protect your wine. Each unit is equipped with a convenient lit display that lets you monitor the temperature from outside your wine cellar. State-of-the-art digital temperature sensors monitor conditions in your wine room and adjust the power levels automatically, so there's no need to fiddle with the fan and power settings. Acoustic and thermal insulation makes the koolR both super quiet and energy efficient. With a hi-temp alarm, excess humidity warning and a multi-level vibration suppression system, the koolR wine cooling unit ensures optimal storage conditions are maintained in your wine cellar. The koolR Magnum offers a cooling capacity of 3000 BTU/hr. and is designed for an enclosure up to 600 cubic feet. It is not designed for wine cabinets as it is designed to mount through a wall with the temperature display on the outside of the cellar.

I found this unit east to install and a piece of cake to use. I solved the issue with the cord going inside of the cellar by cutting a small hole adjcent to the unit and running the power to the exterior(where it should be in the first place).

This's a very compact size unit of itself, the most positive rating i would say's super Quite, temperture are very accurate, just that having little hard time while installing this unit between wood stud, it would be perfect if it's fit without cutting stud..

I would recommend This unit to friend..

These are great cellar chillers as as long as you understand and respect their limitations. It MUST be in an insulated room with minimum R-20 insulation, sealed floor, sealed and insulated door, and must draw air from an air conditioned room. If you follow those rules, you will be as happy as I have been for the last four years. I use mine to store wine and beer, and for controlled fermentation of lagers. HOWEVER, these chillers use R134a refrigerant, the same type used in automotive air conditioning systems and yes, it WILL break down. And no, you will not get much help from the manufacturer who will gladly offer you a discounted replacement, when what you need is to recharge the unit. My unit gradually got warmer over the period of two weeks. I know that Freon is a lubricant as well as a refrigerant, so when it starts getting warm, STOP using it to prevent damage. I took my unit to a place that does refrigeration equipment and air conditioning and they serviced it in less than 15 minutes ($108 labor and materials) and 8oz of Freon and this baby was cooling again like a boss! They installed a tap that will allow me to recharge it myself in the future using a $20 kit from the auto parts store.

Here's the procedure:
1) Call a local HVAC guy.
2) Tell him to install a tap on the refrigerant line (the units are effectively small window units, so the HVAC guy will have no problem doing this).
3) Confirm the coolant your system uses. There is a label on the back and additional instructions on the inside of the case once he opens it.
4) Have him replenish your coolant. Mine recharged quickly so I wasn't too far gone, but if adding Freon to a unit mostly discharged, it may take up to 8 hours to fully reach recommended pressure.
5) Make sure he sets you up to where you can do this yourself (if you’re technically inclined).
6) The HVAC guy charged me $108 per unit to do this (as opposed to $350 for a new unit).
7) If you do use 134a, go to the auto store (i.e. Autozone) and buy some coolant with pressure gauge and an adapter fitting to use with the filler can. (my stuff cost $30 all-in).
8) Now, when your unit begins to fail because it’s low on refrigerant, you can refill it yourself.

I've had this unit running for two years in my 375 cubic foot wine room. It has been completely reliable and has maintained its temperature perfectly. I've had two minor issues. First, the humidity hovers around 50%, which is somewhat low. Second, the interior fan has blown a fair bit of very tiny paint flakes into the wine room. I cannot see where they originate, but they haven't seemed to do any harm.

Overall, I think it's a fantastic unit for a tight space. Mine is located over the cellar door and looks great too! It is a great value when you compare it feature by feature to more expensive brands...

We have had a 900 unit in our 360 CF pantry backed up to a very very hot garage in Vegas running continusly for 8 years 24/7 ! This unit has been fantastic and is finally starting to make some noise and shut off too ofter so I am about to buy another one. You will not be sorry you bought this unit for your cellar.
