Love the clear ice. Not too fond of the beeping tone when the ice is ready or the loudness when the ice drops or the fact that it pushes the drawer slightly open once filled, but I do love the speed, quality of ice, ease of use and cleaning ease! Would recommend.
The Igloo ice maker replaces another of the generic "cold finger" ice makers whose water pump finally died, so I have a baseline to compare against.
In terms of ice production, it's a little slower getting going but the cubes are much more satisfying. They do come out as large sheets, I guess I could try the smaller cubes instead of the regular sized cubes. The removable ice tray and the removable water reservoir are tremendous upgrades from the Avalon Bay ice maker. (Not that the Avalon Bay was bad but carrying carafes over to it got old over time.)
I have two negatives to write about this ice maker. First is that it beeps notifications at you and they are obnoxious. I am very strongly considering finding the piezo noisemaker and snipping the wires. Second is that when the ice tray is full, it shuts down. On one level that makes sense, the ice tray is full, don't make more ice. On another level, perhaps it should continue to sense when the ice level drops due to melting and then make more ice?
Our refrigerator has an ice maker but it is broken. I use the standalone ice maker to make ice and then put it into the 'fridge's bin to both harden the ice more and to get nice delivery from the door. But I don't always remember to transfer it immediately and the 'fridge bin can be full. Wasn't an issue with the cheap ice maker, the ice would sit, melt, recycle and make more once the ice level dropped below the sensor.
The beeping is annoying because it's loud. Yes, the ice tray is full! The stopping is annoying mostly because it's a design choice that you find out about when you need ice, the fridge's bin is empty and the Igloo's bin is empty.
I still recommend this ice maker. The ice is nice cubes and the design of the appliance is very attractive.
I have this at my desk at work and even though it is an office environment with cubes right next to eachother they didnt even know I had it until I pointed it out.
Love this machine. I have ice all the time
I've been using this ice maker for almost 6 months and I'm very happy with it. It's really easy to use and makes perfect ice cubes.
