✫ Tapered tip like Boye aluminum (not the inline type you'll find with Susan Bates)
✫ NOT a soft/cushy handle like I first expected. The colored handle is actually a hard material with a rubber like texture, but its shape is ergonomical.
✫ Most hooks are roughly the same length as Susan Bates standard aluminum and a half inch shorter than Boyes Aluminum.
✫ While I was initially disappointed that is wasn't soft, the shape really does help keep cramping and fatigue at bay.
✫ If you search ergonomic crochet hooks on Amazon, you'll see hundreds of sets that look very similar to these. They are NOT the same, but they have similar qualities. Same length on most; a slightly different handle shape; a softer handle with a more rubbery texture (which I don't like); not as smooth of a hook.
✫ Clover also makes a "Soft Touch" hook with a gold handle . The oval shaped handle is nice, but its not soft and the hook itself is very shallow and difficult to keep the yarn in. Frankly, I despise them.
✫ Susan Bates makes a Soft Handle hook. The soft handle is basically a foam pencil grip with no real ergonomic shape, but I love there extra long handle and sometimes prefer these over the Clover Amour. These are a full inch longer than Amour.
✫ Small and medium size hooks are a metal with a brushed nickel look and a smooth finish. Larger sizes are a seamless plastic.
Clover Needlecraft Amour Crochet Hook, 15 mm
I love this hook. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant at first as I have not enjoyed using plastic hooks before. In the past, my experience has been to feel a "drag" resistance from the hook going through the yarn when I would rather "zoom" along, and usually end up feeling cramping pain and my arms and hands, as well as frustrated. This hook works smoothly with those bulky thick/thin and textured yarns with ease and no strain. It glides through any stitches that I choose to do for a project and turns out beautiful! With this Clover Needlecraft Amour hook, there is no more hesitation, and I will happily take on any crochet project and use this hook to the completion of my projects, and be assured of less discomfort while doing so with it's ergonomic shaft. Trust me you will enjoy this Hook also!!
I love this hook. After trying Clover hooks for the first time, I decided to buy the large 15mm size to replace the 15mm I purchased earlier this year. I'm so glad I did. The previous hook I purchased was huge. I know 15mm is large, but the whole hook was large. The handle, the length, etc. It was very awkward to use. This hook has a much smaller handle that makes crocheting more natural and closer to the experience you get using smaller hooks. I definitely recommend Clover for larger hook sizes!
Very good hook. Best of this size I have found. Fairly decent ergonomics, fairly nicely slippery, and I was able to tolerate working with super bulky yarn despite my carpal tunnel, which is kind of a miracle. I threw out two 15mm hooks before this one, so this is really an excellent review. I am buying only this brand for large hooks from now on.
Great hook! Hard to find a good large hook for chunky yarns. This is an awesome hook. Very comfortable, quality craftsmanship, seems strong and durable. Overall very happy with this hook.

Clover's 1059/PQ 15mm amour hook is incredibly soft and allows the yarn to slide without any effort. Amour handles are in vibrant colors to easily identify sizes. The handle is made of elastomer rubber, making comfortable and stress free crochet.
I am a big fan of the aluminum hooks but took a chance with this plastic hook out of desperation to complete a blanket project that called for this size hook. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed using this plastic hook! I cannot speak on durability yet but I will update my review as time goes on.
Great if working bulky yarn with regular metal hooks causes you thumb pain. My thumb pain disappeared when I switched to clover amour hooks for my bulky yarn projects.
After trying several different hooks that just didn’t work I tried this one based on a recommendation. I am so glad I ordered this one! I have been able to work for longer and more comfortably with this hook than with any of the others I’ve tried. The ergonomic handle is a dream for my hands as they don’t cramp or get as tired/sore as they did with others. I was able to work on a blanket for 3 hours before I needed a break which was unheard of for me with other needles.
This hook is pretty awesome. Easy to grip and easy to crochet with. The yarns, even fuzzy fun fur, slide off easily when crocheting scarves and blankets. I like that this hook is more "slippery" than the metal crochet hooks I normally use.
I'm glad that I ordered this hook from Amazon. The rubber handle is very comfortable to hold than the plastic ones i got. Definitely will order more in different sizes.
