My 7.5 yr old pom is a VERY PICKY EATER. He’ll eventually eat most puppy foods we’ve fed him. But he’ll also starve himself for 2 days before he eats kibble if he doesn’t feel like it. He begs at the table and gets treats for pooping outside (training treat never trailed off, it’s become an expectation) and for withstanding grooming/brushes.
He wouldn’t eat adult food so he ate puppy food with more fat and protein until earlier this year. I finally had to draw a line somewhere and decided to find a small kibble he would eat. I tried the Merrick Whole Earth Farms Small Breed (chicken protein, grain-free) and Wellness Toy Breed (fish protein) kibbles, because a mix of the two brands was what he had been on as an actual puppy. He seemed to like it okay, but I thought I’d give Solid Gold a try, and ordered this Wee Bit (bison) kibble and the Wellness (fish) again.
The Solid Gold Wee But arrived today, and I decided to do a taste test. Dog prefers this one the best! Then the Wellness and lastly the Whole Earth Farms. I knew he preferred the Wellness kibble to the Whole Earth Farms kibble. I don’t know if kibble size has to do with it or if he just likes grains/carbs or if the fish flavor is what he prefers.. (See pics to see the order he ate the kibbles from my hand.)
The Wellness Toy Breed food is the smallest kibble, then the Solid Gold Wee Bit and the Whole Earth Farms Small Breed kibble is the biggest. I’ll say the Whole Earth Farms kibble size is still very small, possibly smaller than regular puppy kibble size. I think as small dogs tend to lose teeth earlier than larger dogs, kibble size matters for these small dogs with tiny mouths.
My dog is discerning aboit freshness too, so once the newbag of Wellness food arrives tomorrow, I’ll do another comparison of the two tomorrow to make sure he’s not just going for the freshest food.
I really hope he’s not just taken with the novelty of this food and that he won’t stop eating this without extra toppers like he usually does.
My dog loves this food! Which surprised me because he usually does not like any of the healthy good for you brands. It has won all types of awards and is on almost every top dog food list I have found. The fact that my pup enjoys it it such a plus!
My "baby" Doxie is 9 years old and has been eating Solid Gold dog food her entire life. For some reason, it's getting harder and harder to find this in the pet or feed stores, so I started ordering it here. This was my second order and it arrived very well packaged and on time. It's about the same cost as when I purchased it in a store, a little higher, but I don't need to schlep it home, so there's that. My girl is very healthy, with bright eyes and a nice coat. I recommend Solid Gold food and treats to everyone.
This is one of the one dog foods that I can get my dog to eat consistently. He can be a bit picky. But I like the small size of the pieces and the quality of the food itself. I'll be feeding this to my dog for many years to come!
So far so good! My dog is extremely picky. She does not care about food, and only eats it if it's mixed with minced chicken or beef, so when I saw her gobble down my mother in laws dogs food I had to get a bag to see if she would eat it and like it more than once! So far so good! She is a medium to small ish dog but she prefers the little kibble so this is probably heaven for her!

I wanted to get my best friend switched to a bison food that was made in the USA and bught this. After a few days i had him completely on this new food and he loves it! He has a very touchy stomach with alot of sqweaky sounds and not formed stools. Well not anymore!!! I also like this because i had been giving him a probiotic supplement per my Vet but now i can do away with this because this food also has an ample amount of it added into the food already. So happy i switched, peace of mind!
I used to mix this with another dog food and my Chihuahua would always pick the other one out and put it on the floor and eat this one. I would keep putting the other back in her bowl and eventually she would eat them, but I knew she didn't really care for them. They were both really good dog foods so I thought maybe one was harder than the other to eat. They come in really tiny bites which is good because she has a small mouth, I took one at a time and tried to crack it with my teeth. This dog food was really easy to break. The other one that she kept taking out of her bowl was hard as a rock, I could barely crack it with my teeth. No wonder she didn't like eating it. I will only be feeding her this from now on. She does well on it, no stomach problems, she is regular, has lots of energy, no allergies, skin or coat problems. She is 6 years old and weighs 4 lbs.
This is one of three types of dry kibble I feed the dogs and have for years. When you find something that works why mess with it, right? I normally buy from a pet store in a bordering town but due to highway maintenance buying from Amazon was a much better choice, this time around. In fact, it worked so well I may continue to do that. With Prime, it was at my doorstep in two days flat. Checked the expiration and it doesn't expire until some time in 2020.
I have had my 7 year old Yorker on this food for years and it's the absolute best! Her coat is so shiny and absolutely no digestive issues, which Yorkers are prone to having.
My fussy dog keeps refusing different foods. He really likes this food. In particular I think he likes the very small size of the food pellets. He has food sensitivities to chicken, and the bison formula has a nice combination of ingredients with no chicken.
