I bought my first Rikon Corn Zipper almost two years ago. Since them in self defense I have bought two more as gifts to ensure mine didn't vanish and added a second zipper to my collection. I pressure can, freeze and dehydrate around 500 ears of corn every year and believe me, if something doesn't work, it doesn't have a place in my kitchen. I have tried multiple zippers and pitched them after 10 minutes. When I saw this, it looked like it might actually work and gave it a whirl. It worked so great, my hubby can zip 3 full ears of corn faster than I can shuck and de-hair one...which is rather embarrassing..guess there is still a bit of city girl in me *lol* It is so easy to use and requires so little force my MIL who has moderate arthritis can help zip corn for the first time in years...and yes she tried to steal my zipper before I gifted her one! Both the kids can use it without whacking off the fingers and toes and do a respectable job. This is actually a zipper that works well, its quick and very easy to clean and comes in very handy if you have family members with dentures or braces! My original zipper has done over 750 ears and is still sharp. I would not use a dishwasher on this. Between harsh detergents, and the high temps, and the possibility of not drying completely in the cycle, the dishwasher has a bad habit of decreasing useful life of items like this.
Have tried numerous products for removing the kernels from the cob without much success. We live directly across from a farm that grows some of the best sweet corn in Ohio and I always like to freeze a bunch for the winter.
This little tool is simply amazing - easy to use and removes the kernels perfectly without waste.

Not sure why people are getting cut by taking off the cover. Maybe the company changed it after people were injured. Just opened mine and it the cover came off really easy.
amazing!. cut off about an inch from the ends of freshly picked sweet corn with a sharp knife, boil corn in husk 5 min, quench in cold water and the husk and silk then comes right off; make a holder with a 24 inch 1 by 3 with a double row of roofing nails sticking through to secure the corn cob, and place this jig on the counter with a flat pan underneath to catch the corn kernels; then secure the corn on the row of nails and pull the corn zipper down the corn cob and it neatly shaves the corn kernels off with the very sharp spring steel blade. A spacer blade determines the right depth, and it actually is about like zipping a zipper. The handle is comfortable and ergonomic.Can neatly strip an ear of corn in less than 10 seconds! Takes maybe 45 minutes to do a bushel. Ordered a couple of other designs but never needed to use them. This is a clear winner, especially with the routine as noted by prepping the ears and securing them with a home made jig..
Love, love, LOVE this product. I bought the whole set from QVC, with the holders. I liked it so much that I wanted to have an extra zipper so I came back to my favorite place to shop, (Amazon) and ordered this one. If you want an awesome and easy way to get all the corn off the cob.... grab at least... one of these. You won't regret it.

In the summer, I eat an ear or raw corn almost every day. I've gotten pretty good and removing kernels with a regular kitchen knife but decided to give this a try. Note: I'm not big on kitchen gadgets. I have 3 knives. Large, medium and small. They do all the things I need to do in the kitchen. However, this being inexpensive and having great review I decided to give it a try and I'm happy to say that this gadget is now a mainstay in my kitchen.
What I especially like is being able to shave as much and as deeply as I want. I like to get every morsel of the kernel and underlying structure where all the juice lies. If you own one and are having problems just lighten up on your pulling pressure. It's a tool, and like all tools, it will require a bit of practice to perfect but it's well worth the effort.

I managed to severely break my front teeth when I was a kid and have had bonding ever since. I have always been terrified of biting into anything with my front teeth and breaking them. However, that was a bad thing seeing as how much I used to love corn on the cob. I made it by for years with sharp knives and trying to get the kernels off the best I could.. but it was difficult and high probability of eventually getting a finger. Once I discovered this little tool I was a corn eating fool. I don't have a grill so I figured out some great crockpot tricks to cooking them at home, and during the summer get to have corn on the cob a few times a week.
I purchased 200 ears of corn and 3 corn "zippers" from our local farm store and couldn't even "zip" one ear of corn without creaming it and my fingers. Out of desperation I purchased Kuhn Rikon's Corn Zipper with one day shipping hoping that I could save my canning nightmare without using a knife to slice the kernels of corn off the cob. It came in time and it was heaven to use! Not only did it easily and quickly slice the kernels, it didn't cream them or me. I now have 200 ears of corn beautifully canned in a matter of hours not days! I went and purchased 2 more as I plan to get more corn and will have others helping me. I may even purchase more for Christmas present for my friends that can corn. What an awesome tool!!
This arrived just in time today. A neighbor had gifted me with two dozen ears of fresh summer corn. Hubby hates having to eat it from the cob so I took this little tool and proceeded to zip all the corn off all twenty four ears in less than 10 minutes, I expect that with more use I will go even faster. Where has this gizmo been all my life? I'll be making a trip to the farmers market this weekend and getting a load of corn to zip off the cob and freeze for fall and winter use, there is nothing that compares to fresh corn. Don't hesitate if you are considering getting this, it truly makes quick short work of removing the kernels. I had no problem removing the blade guard, I simply pushed up on one end with my thumb and it flipped right off, the blade is indeed very sharp and I imagine it could be dangerous in the hands of someone who isn't in the habit of being somewhat careful with new tools.
I want to love this product but it's not perfect. However, it's still better than any other way I have found.
Very well made (as are all Kuhn-Rikon products) in hefty stainless, with very sharp blades. The blade is about two-kernels wide and strips two rows per stroke. Which is ok, but of course, the varying widths of a kernel guarantees you are slicing through kernels much of the time. Still, beats a knife which always slashes kernels open with every stroke.
Best feature: You can generally get it to remove the kernel without leaving much behind or snagging some cob. This is fairly easy to do but not without some struggle to keep it from hanging up mid-stroke.
Someday, someone will think of a way to strip kernels off cleanly and wholly. Until then, this is the best.
