My significant other and I both suffer from insomnia related to anxiety. You know the kind--where you lay in bed and things that happened 10 years ago haunt you into being wide awake. After over a week of both of us sleeping horribly, I was desperate. I'll admit this was somewhat of an impulse buy. I saw it on a facebook video and decided I was so sleep deprived, it was worth a try because there was a free return and we were exhausted. After nearly a month of using it nightly, I have to admit that I am quite shocked at how well it works. We don't use it nightly, just on nights we consider ourselves to be at risk for being wide awake all night, and each night we've used it, we've slept like absolute babies. Some pointers:
**Take it for what it is. THIS IS NOT A CURE. It is essentially a distraction technique that helps you escape your thoughts through intentional breathing. It calms you and allows your body to fall into a natural sleep. It isn't a magic cure and it requires dedication to the process. If you can't commit to something like that, then this isn't for you.
**It is battery operated. If you're an earth friendly household (like us), I would recommend simultaneously purchasing a set of rechargeable batteries.
**It doesn't work well when it's directly against a wall (on a nightstand, for example). The light kind of gets distorted on the wall instead of projecting onto the ceiling. We have a bench on the end of the bed we put ours on that works just fine. A larger piece of furniture would also work, but something that sticks out atleast 2 feet from the wall is my recommendation.
Hope this helps!!!
I recommend this product.
I have a CPAP and an over active mind. I didn't get the CPAP till a few years back the only reason I bring this up is anyone knows it can be a challenge to sleep with just a CPAP much less an over active mind.
I find the the breathing of the light and allowing myself to focus on the light and trying to match the breathing or pulsing of the light just allows me to relax, unfocus, and pass out. Just as the video portrays.
Now of course nothing is without it's flaws it takes a little bit to get use too but if you really give it a chance I think it will work on most people since I have owned I think there has been perhaps 2 night I didn't fall asleep before the light went off. Those were just very trying nights in my life recently it can help you unfocus but only so much sometimes your brain will win.
Things to know when you turn it on it will last 8 mins if you run your finger over the surface again it will last for 20 mins. I suggest this at first so you can get use to the product. I know some people have complained about the brightness but it is adjustable so just adjust to what works for you and set for 20 mins and give it a real college try before you decide it works for you or not.
I love and take it will me everywhere as I travel a lot for work. There is a great travel case on Amazon as well if you want one here is the link.https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B079FH5BN5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1 It's simple, sturdy, and not too expensive.
If you have any other questions just ask away. I really love this product as it has allowed me to get to sleep fast and I'd even wager to say it has improved my sleep as well by allowing me to go to sleep in such a relaxed state.
FINALLY, my child sleeps! My 10 year old has always been a poor sleeper, struggling to fall asleep and waking multiple times through the night. We know all about 'sleep hygiene' and 'sleep windows', etc. We've tried everything legal, but the issue has been intractable. Kiddo's mind spins (anxiety perhaps) and sleep is elusive. A decade of this really takes a toll on a kid. The Dodow ad came across my FB feed and I thought 'what the heck, might as well.' I had the kiddo read all about the device, and kiddo was willing to give it a try.
It arrived quickly, and we read through the instructions together. I let kiddo install the batteries and test it, to get 'buy-in'. It took me about 20 minutes to get it set up in the bedroom, taking the time to get it in just the right location and adjust the nightlight and ambient lighting to make the room dark enough.
Kiddo fell asleep the first night within 15 minutes. I peeked in around midnight and realized the room was utterly quiet. I hadn't realized that Kiddo was also a noisy sleeper--lots of tossing and turning, heavy mouth breathing, even sleep-talking. I guess we'd just grown used to it. But that night was eerily quiet. Kiddo woke the next morning having slept through the entire night, maybe the 10th time ever.
We've had it for 2 1/2 weeks now, and every night has been like the first. Kiddo falls asleep quickly each night, and sleeps straight through til morning most of the time. We traveled for the holidays, and I noticed the Dodow was the first thing Kiddo packed.
I am so grateful for this device, the much-needed sleep it brings to my child, and the happy, smart, focused kid it gives me by day.
This device has helped me fall asleep every night. Nowadays I don't even use it regularly anymore and I now only use it ocassionally whenever I'm feeling a bit anxious or stressed out. You have to understand how this device works so you could appreciate it.
1. It will not put you to sleep. It brings you to a relaxed state, where the body is ready to sleep. Then after the session you go to sleep. I see reviews asking "how will that put me to sleep when my eyes are wide open?" or "I'm a side sleeper I can't see the light on the ceiling." Folks you are misunderstanding how the product is supposed to work.
2. This device has nothing to do with Circadian rhythms. I see a lot of people comment that the blue light is bad for sleep. But this device does not target the Circadian component of sleep. This is a relaxation device. If your sleep issue is due to stress/anxiety then this device will help you a lot. If your sleep issue is because of DSPD or some other disorder then it may not help you at all. My sleep issues were caused by anxiety and I was unable to relax, so this device worked for me.
I've had LIFELONG insomnia, managed mostly with meds. I also work in sleep medicine so i know a lot about sleep and have pretty good sleep hygiene. I've tried meditation for years and usually have an opposite response (Blame ADD). I can feel myself getting stressed as I'm "emptying" my mind. I faired better with guided meditation, but often I'd fall asleep just to wake up seconds later because some distracting pan flute would come on. This product let's me avoid that. It's blessedly silent. It's not too bright. If you get distracted it's no big deal, you pick up on the next cycle. Watching the blue light ebb and flow is relaxing and I don't have to turn it off and when I feel sleepy I can just close my eyes and go to sleep. I don't have to envision any fluffy clouds. This is a very useful part of any isomniac's arsenal. It's also super portable and wouldn't disturb a bed partner.

Description
Metronome with a light system to help you fall asleep faster
I wanted to give this a few days to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I have been a long time insomniac. I have taken Lunesta (crap), Belsomra (crap).. Melatonin, every OTC sleeping aid they make, nothing has worked except Ambien, which I've taken every night, with the exception of trying the aforementioned alternatives, for the past 7 years.
I spent a few weeks lowering my dosage, cutting caffeine after 3 pm, not drinking liquids after 8 pm. My first night off Ambien was not good. Desperate, I found and purchased the Dodow.
You have to really read the instructions and focus on the directions. I'm on the 5th night of using the Dodow and have yet to make it past the 8 minute cycle. I wake several times a night still but every time I've fallen asleep quicker and quicker.
This works, incredibly, but you HAVE to help it help you!
I was super skeptical. I'm someone that not only has trouble falling asleep, but also has trouble staying asleep, and didn't think some little light was going to be able to help me.
The first night it took me a little bit to fall asleep, and I woke up a few times, but the instruction book said you might not have great results the first night. The second night I fell asleep much faster. I woke up once in the night due to outside noise (thanks mr. snow plow) but fell back to sleep again quickly. The third night I barely remember rolling onto my side after the light went out and I slept for 6 straight hours. I haven't slept 6 straight hours in years without sleeping pills!
I encourage anyone with sleep issues to try dodow, its worked wonders for me!
I have always had issues falling asleep, I like this product because it allows me to focus on something and just relax versus thinking about how I should have responded to something 5 years ago. I would recommend this product.
For years I have had problems sleeping. It seemed like whenever I later down, my mind kicked in. I tried pills, exercise, anything I could to get to sleep.
I saw the DoDow here on Amazon and thought I would give it a try.
It arrived quickly and is simple in use and premise. The first night, honestly, I think I fought it, but by the 3rd night I was hooked. The blue light is soothing and the breathing technique helps for total relaxation.
I can honestly say that I don’t even make it through the 8 minute cycle before drifting off.
I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs help shutting down at night.
I've only used the Dodow for a couple of weeks, but it is definitely an effective and simple sleep aid for me. I have been a lifelong insomniac, and I only realized in the last year that my anxiety plays a big part in my lack of sleep. I learned that controlled breathing eased my anxiety and allowed me to fall asleep. However, I found myself focusing so much on counting out breaths that it wasn't as easy or effective as it could have been.
Enter the Dodow, a perfect tool to make proper breathing techniques simple and effective! I did find that the breathing pattern in the beginning of the 8-minute setting is faster than I typically breathe. It isn't really an issue though, I just breathe normally until it gets to my pace and then follow it from there. (One of the things that is great about it, is that it gradually slows the pace of your breathing.) By the last minute of the cycle, I find that I'm wanting to close my eyes each time the light dims. And once the cycle ends, I roll over and fall asleep. Going from awake to rolling over and closing my eyes to sleep in about ten minutes is nothing short of amazing.
