Wonderful hook. I switched out during a project from a regular Susan Bates hook and could not believe the difference. I was using Unforgettable acrylic for a project and the first hook worked okay, but the yarn was hard to work with--kept splitting, etc. The Clover hook made a marked difference. Everything went faster. As to ergonomics, any hook with a handle is an improvement over the inexpensive ones, if you ask me. By the way, I intend to post this same review to the other Clover hook I purchased at the same time...I AM a real person, who really crochets and doesn't work for the company. (Don't you love it when other customers freak out over their suspicions?...but I know how that is: It's getting harder and harder to tell if a product is any good from a review. But this hook is a great hook!)
I've used standard metal crochet hooks for 50 years, and my hands have recently requested something a bit less taxing. The size H hook was a test to see whether this handle style would work for me. It functioned so well that I bought the entire set of hooks a few days after receiving this one. It's a good time to be getting old :)
One tiny wish - if the hook could be about an inch longer, that would be ideal. Alas, life is full of missing-inch disappointments. Just ask the bumpers on my car.
In the past I've only used metal hooks, with the exception of one bamboo handled hook I have. I really don't like the bamboo handle hook for various reasons, and I never thought have grips or special handles would matter to me, but after hearing so much about the Clover hooks, I decided to try them for myself. I'm so glad that I did!
The handle is very comfy and feels comfortable. I was worried that it would take a lot of time to get used to a hook with a larger handle, but this was not the case. All the edges are very smooth with no rough spots. Some of my other metal hooks have sharp edges that can catch on the yarn. I've since bought some more of these Clover hooks in other sizes, and they are all just as comfy and smooth as this hook.
The other thing I really like about these hooks is the hooked end. It's hooked enough to catch the yarn and hold it but still easy to release as well. The bamboo handled hook I mentioned earlier is not as rounded, and the yarn has a habit of falling off the hook very frequently, thus making my progress much slower. The Clover hooks seem to have gotten it just right.
I don't know if I'll ever go back to using any of my old hooks again!
I have been crocheting for over 40 years using the Boyle hooks. I have carpal tunnel & the start of arthritis in my hands. I started to use these hooks to ease the cramps in my hand from the all metal hooks. This hook is easy & comfortable to hold, however, my one little complaint is the depth of the hook for holding the yarn. I am use to a little deeper hook & a slightly more pointed end. This hook is a little bit too shallow for me and it has taken some time for me to get use to it. I continue to use it as my hands do not get as tired because of the cushioned grip. The amount of metal between the end of the hook and the beginning of the soft grip is about 1.5”. Depending upon the size of your yarn and the pattern, you will not have enough room to complete some stitches. Over all, I will continue to use them for my more intense & longer patterns. Otherwise, I will go back to my good old standbys.
I crochet a LOT! I make gifts, but mostly I make hats for NICU babies, cancer patients and the homeless. I use all kinds of stitches and several yarn weights. Sometimes I can crochet for 2 or 3 hours a day if I'm listening to a really good book.
I have tried every hook from the cheapest all metal to the better Boye hooks. I have definite preferences for a good hook, with my "must have" requirements being an ergonomic handle, a smooth hook and shaft and a hook that won't split my yarn, either on the forward or the pull stroke (I thought that only an in-line hook would do, but I was wrong. These are tapered hooks and they work like a dream!) My Boyes were my favorites until I tried my first Clover Armour hook. The difference was obvious IMMEDIATELY!
I'm not sure what they do to the hook and shaft (the metal parts) of these ergonomic hooks, but the hook and shaft of the Clover Armours are not as shiny as the Boye or any others and that not-as-shiny metal slides through the yarn so smoothly and easily that the difference was instantly noticeable. Smooth as a babies bottom!
The hook doesn't split my yarns (I exclusively use medium, light and sport weights). The hook also doesn't pull the yarn, "pop through" or require yanking. I can never go back. Best crochet hooks EVER!

Description
The Clover 1047/H Amour crochet hook is engineered to be the best hook ever. The incredibly smooth hook allows yarn to slide effortlessly and the new elastomer handle makes crocheting comfortable and stress free. These crochet hooks have color coded handles for easy size identification. This one is size H (5.0mm) and the handle color is deep blue.
Prior to this purchase, I've only bought/used the no-brand knock offs of this style of crochet hook and have been pretty pleased with them. I wasn't exactly sure what more I could get from the Amour hook - but find I really love this hook. It glides incredibly smoothly and is definitely a bit lighter than the comparable hook I have been using which does make a difference when you crochet for hours at a time. Over time, I plan to purchase additional Amour hooks in my frequently used sizes.
Lovely crochet hook! I purchased this one in a pinch because I had lost my all metal H hook. I had never owned or used a Clover hook before with the comfort grip but I'm glad I gave it a try. The item is just as described by seller and came in good order. The H hook is very comfortable to use and I find that it is much easier to hold than my previous hook. The hook is light weight and smooth tipped. My yarn slid easily on and off the hook and I would buy this product again.
My wife has her favorite brand and this seemed like a similar product. She prefers her syle but liked trying something different. If your just starting out this is a good style. It's smooth and yet angular enough to grab the yarn. If you've an accomplished artist then stay with the styles you've always used.
I'm enjoying the Clover Amour Size H, 5.0mm crochet hook. I've never used a hook with a soft grip. It's comfortable to hold and eases stress in my hand. A friend recommended the Clover Armour hooks to me and I'm so glad she did. I looked for this brand/style in the local stores but only found the larger hooks. I'm so glad these hooks are available on Amazon in the smaller sizes.
I love this crochet hook! It was the first ergonomic one I got. Later, I picked up a couple other sizes / other brands at Michaels and they weren't as nice. (The Boyd brand one is junk- has a sharp point in the metal and snags.) I also like the shape of hook and the metal is lightweight, but good quality. Highly recommend!
