I purchased a Cauldryn Fyre when it was first released last year, but found myself using it primarily to maintain the temperature of my coffee throughout the day. When Cauldryn released this model designed specifically for coffee drinkers, I was intrigued enough by the additional coffee-focused features to give it a try. I am glad I did, as it's clear that the makers put some thought into what exactly coffee-drinkers such as myself were looking for.
First of all, the bottle is substantially lighter than the Fyre Mobile. I'm not sure whether this is from improvements in manufacturing, or whether they can simply use a lower-capacity battery when there is no need to bring water all the way to a boil. In either case, I have never come close to draining the battery even with a full day's use. I really underestimated how much having a lighter bottle improves the daily experience, and this alone could make an upgrade worth it for those who carry their Cauldryn around all day.
Second, you can now select any temperature you'd like to maintain your drink at. This is huge! I've really enjoyed playing around with this feature to hone in on the exact temperature I like to drink different coffees at. Along with this, it also has a nice LED readout that tells you what the temperature is.
The lid on this new model is also a bit different. Personally, I prefer this lid to the original, as it seems to have a better "feel" to it. I'm not sure what else I can say about this, I just wanted to note that this is a difference between the models.
This model also features a removable base that makes this a modular unit that you can add different accessories to. For example, I see that they have a coffee grinder attachment. I have not used any of these accessories, but I do like the idea of being able to easily expand the Cauldryn to find new uses.
Finally, there is an app that you can use to control the Cauldryn remotely. I plan to use this to start heating the water while out for lunch in those situations where I want a single-cup pourover when I get back to the office.
All in all, I am very happy I decided to purchase this new model of the Cauldryn. It comes in at basically the same price point, and with additional features that really add to the experience.
TL DR: great concept, some kinks to be worked out; but for someone that has been working out in the cold all day wanting a piping hot cup of coffee without running to a shop, it's worth it.
Pros: As of November 2018, this really is the only one on the market that holds a charge of up to 10 hours on the go. It's Bluetooth enabled, so in theory you can set your drink up to temperature and be greeted by a piping hot cup when you get in your car. I've not tried this yet.
The charger is very similar to a laptop charging cable, so if you happen to forget the charger but have a laptop on hand, you can charge it. Just make sure the specs are within 10%.
Cons: the temp display is about 10 degrees off. When the cup read 130, the actual temp was closer to 120. At first I thought I received one with a bad temp sensor. But, when I went to increase the temp on the cup from 130 to 140, the cup now registered 120 then slowly started climbing to 140.
For the next test, the bottle was filled with 48.9 degree water and set to a goal temp of 150. Forty minutes later with the ac adapter, the cup read 150, the thermometer read 147.7. Unreliable temp sensor?
It took 40 min on ac power to get from 99 degrees to “boiling” 212. The ambient temp was 66. The actual temp registered 206.4 when the cup displayed 212. The cup will not go above 212. I highly doubt it can get to a 2 min sustained rolling boil to actually sterilize.
As a vacuum sealed travel mug, it performed on par with a metal freebie giveaway mug with a clear plastic sip lid and was beaten by a $15 Contigo Snapseal Byron mug.
Methodology: 3 metal travel mugs: freebie, Contigo and Cauldryn were filled with their perspective max liquid: 15, 20 and 16oz respectively. The ambient temp was 65.8 They were all filled with boiling (212 rolling boil) water from a pot. Once the boiling water was in the mugs, the temps fell to: 203.3, 205.7 and 205.7 respectively. The exterior temp of the mugs were: 69.9, 74.3 and 73.9 as measured by a Craftsman ir heat gun. The lid/ lip portion temps measured: 156, 95.7 and 77.9. once all the mugs were sealed, the Cauldryn made the most hissing sounds while the freebie was silent. The Contigo made sounds but was nowhere near as loud as the Cauldryn. After 11 hours overnight (it's a weekend, I slept in), the exterior temps all read around 68, the ambient temp was still 65.8. the lip/lid portion read: 77.9, 76.4 and 70.1. The water temps were: 89.8, 103.4 and 88.3. It was disheartening to see that a freebie mug with less liquid performed on par as the Cauldryn.
The lid is not leak proof; if you shake/drop the cup, it will leak.
Out of the box, there was a paint drip (?) on the inside ring on the base of the cup. This doesn't come in contact with your drink, but it makes me question the quality of manufacturing.
I've already made a scald spot on the bottom of the base with my coffee with light milk and sugar after 1 use.
You have to be very careful when unscrewing the base vs the battery. You don't want to unscrew the base with hot liquid inside!
The rubber cover on the battery pack broke off after the 2nd full charge.
The battery with 16 oz of liquid weighs 2 lbs 13 oz. In comparison, a 16.9 oz disposable water bottle weighs 1 lbs 3 oz. The bottle itself with liquid weighs 2 lbs 3oz.
The battery takes 2 hours to change, but for 10 hours of run time.
But one time when the cup was left in the winter car (approx temp 30-40), with full battery in the am, the battery just blinked and did not warm coffee. It seems temperamental, because the next day it warmed the coffee to lukewarm just fine in similar temps.
All in all, if you want a warm drink waiting in your car after a long day of working outside, this gadget is for you. Just keep in mind the temp on the cup may or may not match the actual liquid temp.
*Update 12/6/18 updated to 4 stars from 3 for their customer service.
I sent them an email per the instructions in the comments to this review and they promptly sent me a new base and rubber cover!
I purchased a Cauldryn to keep my home-brewed potent Espresso in actual ‘freshest hottest Espresso’ format while pulling an all nighter. (When Espresso is outlawed, only outlaws will be awake).
Tried corded water heaters. Nope.
Tried standard Thermos-type bottles. Nope.
Tried a Cauldryn. Whoa there... Keeper.
These guys just get it. This is my buddy. Quick recharge as I sleep & it’s kept hot all work day, or night.
As a bonus, there’s a handy freebie Bluetooth APP for ease of control. Dang... 100 Real-World Bonus Points awarded, right there. πΊπ€π
Ive been looking for various ways to save money at work as im always on the road and either have to eat cold food or eat at restaurants which adds up quick, i came across the cauldryn and it works like a charm to cook soups. I also use it to keep my ice coffee cold (not a big fan of hot coffee in summer) and it keeps it cooler than any other cup ive tried. Was a bit skeptical about trying this cup but im glad i did, from heating and cooling drinks to cooking, and packaging shows theres a blender attachment, i dont know what else you could ask of a cup.
I usually only write reviews on products that don't work or if they are built cheap. NOT the case with my Cauldryn Travel Mug - I thought I was going to like it as soon as I saw the box that had all of the features listed on it - Once I used it, I knew I made a great choice. I'm using it for hot coffee, warm soup and cold iced tea. Can't wait to take hot chocolate to football games this fall. They even printed the instruction in large type, so I don't need my reading glasses. Looking forward to buying some of the accessories. I'm buying one for my daughter, before she permanently borrows mine!

Well I discovered something new I didn't know about myself. I like my tea at 125 and my cappuccino at 136. Cool gadget :) Exceeds expectations.
I have been looking for the right coffee cup for along time. I’ve finally found it! I have been using this almost daily for about 4 months now. It is very easy to clean, very well insulated, best leak proof cup I have ever owned. Customer service is great. I had an issue with the blender and they immediately sent another one, it turned out to be an operator error..... yes my fault. Still need to send the other back, sorry for the delay. Now for the dislikes..... none! The only issue I have is the battery life. It was great to start out with but after a couple months the battery life has gone down a lot. I have the vehicle plug due to being a truck driver I have this on for 10 to 12 hrs a day. The vehicle plug was well worth the investment. I have boiled water, heated up soup and blended a smoothie. The cup might be a little to insulated for a smoothie, I had to keep adding liquid to it to try to drink it cause waiting for it to thaw some “ an hour later” didn’t do much. So I would say I that if you are looking for it the best coffee cup, look no further. No, I did not get paid in any way to write this review. I waited to write this to give an honest review of actual use. I hate reading reviews with 1 day use.
I love that I can set the temperature. I had an issue with battery soon after I bought it. Contacted customer service and pretty much resolved the issue within several hours. Very responsive and helpful. I keep the temperature at 150F when in use, and can get a minimum 8 hours on maintenance mode. It is kind of big and heavy, but it fits in the cup holder in my car. I don't go on long drive without this cup. It keeps my drinks hot so I can enjoy it throughout the day.
When was last time you bought something that did exactly what the manufacturer claimed? Well that just happened to me! I’m having so much fun with the Cauldryn. Everyone asks me about it, I tell em do yourself a favor and just buy one. I remember when I use to think my Yeti Tumbler was cool.
