I'm the one that unloads the dishwasher in our house.
Cleaning:
When I unloaded our old Maytag, I would have to rewash 30% of the dishes because they didn't come clean. This dishwasher is 100% clean over 3 loads so far! All the dishes are cleaner than anything that came out of the Maytag. The dishes are very HOT when it's done.
Noise:
We couldn't watch TV with the Maytag running. Not a problem with this one. This dishwasher is so quiet that we only really notice it when the water is draining.
Installation:
It took me about 2 hours to remove the old machine and install this one. That included a trip to Home Depot to buy the water line adapter. (The only piece of hardware I had to buy.) The directions were very clear. The hardest part was getting the thing level because it was a snug fit under the counter.
I would recommend this dishwasher to anyone.
Quiet and performs job much better than the old one.
Overall, the Bosch SHE3AR72UC is a great dishwasher and I'm very happy with it. First, you have to understand the model numbers - the SHX models have hidden controls and the SHE models have front panel controls (both are very easy to use). The AR7 has an LED display a few more cycle options than the AR5. But the important thing is that all the different combinations in the "Ascenta" series have the exact same innards so you should read the reviews of all of them as they are pretty much the same unit.
The dishwasher cleans very well - probably the best cleaning of any dishwasher I've ever used. No complaints there. And it's VERY quiet, which is nice.
Contrary to what was said by other reviewers about the dishwashers in this series, I have not had any problems with spotting in the slightest, even with the rinse agent set to use the minimum amount. I think that might be a function of the water quality (we never used a rinse agent at all with our previous dishwasher and never had a problem with spotting).
Overall, I only have two complaints. As others have noted, the configuration of the dish racks is really strange and it makes for very awkward loading. I'm not quite sure what the designers were thinking. The 'prongs' that hold the dishes upright are way too close together, so you can't easily load soup bowls or deep-dish plates. Then there are "speed bumps" on the right and left sides of the upper rack, going all the way from front to back, where you'd normally put glasses and cups - so cups don't sit flat and tend to tip over if they're not loaded with something next to them. I'm sure there's some reason for this design, but I haven't figured it out.
My second complaint is an installation issue I had. I purchased the hose kit which I was told was required, and it included an 'L' connector for the incoming water line. However, when the connector is screwed all the way in so that it doesn't leak, it's pointing the wrong direction and it's IMPOSSIBLE to connect the hose. After trying it about six different times, and spending an hour on the phone with customer service, I ended up removing the bracket that holds the incoming water connector and just letting it drop to the ground so there was room for the water line to be connected. It's not pretty, but it's hidden by the front plate - and it seems to work. They also didn't include the strain relief for the electrical line, which I thought was pretty cheap.
This is the fourth Bosch dishwasher I have bought and installed in as many homes, starting over 15 years ago. This one may be my last. Out of the box, the door closes inconsistently - sometimes it closes completely and you can change the cycle options, other times it doesn't. The door also nearly always comes unlatched mid-cycle, leading to a partially completed wash. You have to press the door closed firmly, hope it latches, and hope it finishes - sometimes it does, though often you have to repeatedly close the door to get the cycle completed.
The cleaning is very good, and the interior design is very good - hence two stars instead of one or none, though this is far outweighed by the door issue.
Update: tech came out and replaced the latch assembly. It functioned for one cycle. On the second cycle it again popped open towards the end of the cycle. Presently on the phone arranging for yet another service call. Machine has been installed for about a month.
Update 2: tech had to add a metal plate at the top of the machine to stiffen the chassis where the door latches. Once this was done, the machine has consistently latched and has become the dishwasher I expected. Most likely the result of the initial iteration of this model, I would assume Bosch would change the design in future versions.
It is smaller inside than your average dishwasher. Probably because the more sound insulation the smaller the capacity. I disagree with others about the "bad" design. It Is designed differently but once you figure out the system, it holds nearly as much as a standard dishwasher. I have two daughters who will load dishes covered with dried caked on food. I told them " if this thing cleans those dishes you put in there, I'll write the company". It did clean the caked dishes so here I am, doing one better, reviewing it on Amazon. Very quiet too.

So I got this dishwasher from a chain hardware store since they had a special Rebate going on. Having owned it for a few months now, some quick and easy insight;
PROS:
- Fairly simple install. A few parts (clearly described in instructions) are needed to be purchased separately, but shouldn't cost more than $20.
- Runs SUPER quiet. Really, I can't state how quiet this thing is.
- Dishes come out very clean. The top rack has its own water arms, so entire dishwasher is covered.
CONS:
- As others have mentioned, the rack layout is different. Check out the BOSCH website for PDF manual as they include layouts of dishes so you can get an idea if this is the right dishwasher for you. I would think a family of 4-5 who cooks every night will need to run this nightly. Smaller families or those who cook less may be able to do it every 2-3 days accordingly.
- No extra rinse option. We have soft water and because there is no Extra Rinse option, I had to switch from pre-packaged tablets to powder, since I can manually control how much is used. There IS an option to use extra Rinse agent or extra Dry Heat, but that doesn't help my situation.
OVERALL:
I am happy with this dishwasher. It does what it promises and seems to function well. I wish it had more bells and whistles but for the price, I feel this is a quality machine from a reliable company.
I'm sure the remarkably bad experience I had with my former dishwasher, a Whirlpool Gold® GU2800XTV, has a direct bearing on my enthusiasm for this Bosch dishwasher. That Whirlpool dishwasher was without a doubt the most troublesome appliance I have ever owned over a span of 60+ years. Fortunately I purchased the extended warranty but even the Whirlpool warranty company eventually wrote the GU2800XTV off as a lemon.
This Bosch, on the other hand, has done everything asked of it in a marvelously competent manner. I'll agree that dish placement is different from other dishwashers I've owned and I'm still going through a learning curve but I've managed to successfully load everything to this point with increasing speed as I learn how to organize the dishes we normally use.
Page 7 of the owner's manual offers four different loading patterns for the top rack and four more for the bottom rack. With that many suggested alternatives and a little creativity one should be able to develop one or more loading patterns that will work for your family.
With my Whirlpool I had a constant problem with wet dishes at the completion of the cycle even when their "Hi-temp" wash setting and "Heated Dry" were both engaged. In order to test the Bosch I used the "Auto Wash" setting but did not engage the "Sanitize" option. I have been delighted to discover the dishes, including plastic cups, come out dry and need no additional drying before replacing in the cabinets. We no longer need the dish towel when unloading the dishwasher which was an absolute necessity with the Whirlpool.
Although we have no way of objectively measuring it, my wife and I both agree the dishes are coming out with a shiny sparkle they most assuredly did not have with the Whirlpool.
I had the dishwasher installed by a professional and the installation went smoothly and very fast. There have been no problems with the dishwasher and it has consistently done an outstanding job. While it is very quiet, the Whirlpool was, perhaps, a little quieter but that is the only good thing I can say about the Whirlpool; it washed poorly and dried poorly very quietly.
I tried to follow all of the setup instructions that came on the extra sheet "Getting started with your new dishwasher." This is a loose sheet but has some important information on it, be careful it doesn't get thrown away during unpacking.
On page 9 of the manual it is pointed out the Bosch uses less water than most and therefore needs less detergent. The detergent cup is measured and has lines at 1, 2, or 3 tablespoons. On page 10 we are told that 1 tablespoon will clean most loads and that is what we have done with excellent results.
Since we do not wash our silverware in the dishwasher we have removed the basket. On page 8 of the manual detailed instructions are given on placement otions for the basket and the loading pattern for silverware placement in the basket.
The top rack is adjustable and can be moved up or down to accommodate larger items in the top or bottom rack. The top rack can also be completely removed. Some of the other Bosch models come with a sprinkler head for washing really tall items. This arrangement permits complete removal of the top rack and the insertion of a plastic sprinkler head that enables the user to wash really tall items that would sit on the bottom rack. The sprinkler head does, however, fit on this machine as well and can be ordered as part number 5600-037-096 (PP-TV20).
After three years of failure in trying to get the Whirlpool to do the job it was supposed to do you can imagine my joy in finding a machine that does the job vastly better right out of the box. I recommend this machine highly. For the record, a noted consumer reporting agency also classified this model as a "Best Buy."
It took me two or three days to research washing machines. I decided on this one and got it locally at about the same price with free set up and delivery. The reviews on Amazon are so very helpful. I have had this machine a couple weeks. My old machine died electronically and the start button failed. The nite before this one was delivered, it came back to life!! But it was 25 years old and my dishes did not sparkle. Now they do. I didn't want another electronic panel, but there is little choice these days. Dishes are very clean, and sparkly. Pretty easy to use. More options than I need. I agree the tines are very close together but a row on the top and the bottom fold down for bigger items. The top shelf is adjustable up and down and completely removable which is big plus when I want to wash my big pots that I could never fit it the dishwasher before. The machine does stop when finished but the on off button is on and needs to be manually shut off. I don't understand why that is. only tabs or dry soap is recommended. I have a huge amount of liquid soap left which the installer says I can probably use, but it isn't recommended. The panel needs the instruction book sometimes for some functions..I wish that part was more user friendly. It isn't difficult but it is something extra I need to look up if I need to change a setting. The next level ou was over $300 more and I don't think it would have been worth the extra money for me. OH, it is very quiet. So far, I am very happy I bought this model and would recommend it.
I have had this dishwasher about 2 weeks. It is very quiet, not dead silent, but the quietest dishwasher I have heard. Cleaning of dishes is excellent. My old dishwasher had left a white film on all the dishes which the Bosch removed in one or two cleanings (using the same Finish detergent). The regular cycles are long, like most newer dishwashers (about 2 hours) but the Express Wash cycle does a very good cleaning job in about 30 minutes. The biggest complaint is the interior racks. I measured my old Kenmore racks and the Bosch ones are smaller by about 40 square inches. The spacing of the tines is too close, so most deep bowls won't fit well. It seems to be designed to hold a lot of teacups and saucers or other small dishes. So I would not recommend this for a large family since the capacity is so small, you may have to run it at least once a day. But for a couple, it is fine.
I swapped this out for a dead Whirlpool dishwasher in just a couple of easy hours following the directions that came with it. Since local appliance places wanted $139-$159 for install, it was worth doing myself.
The first (really quiet!) load of dishes was clean except for a cup in the corner. So far no problems!
