A small, light cutter. It's suitable for thin materials, but the blade is too short for common corrugated cardboard.
The ceramic blade is designed to be reasonably safe for flesh, while also keeping its edge for extended use. I found it worked just as well as a metal blade on packaging tape and thin cardboard, and its shallow design prevents damaging the contents underneath. Unfortunately, the same shallow design means the blade won't cut deeply enough to slice up standard corrugated cardboard, unless you apply enough force to compress the cardboard. I tested this against several Amazon boxes, where the blade would neatly slice the cardboard, but not all the way through.
The cutter is very small. For extended use (like warehouse work), it would be a bit too small for my average-sized male hands. and quickly became uncomfortable to hold when I was trying to exert much force. But held lightly and loosely for infrequent use like opening/collapsing boxes it worked like a charm. I could also see it being useful for slicing plastic sheeting for contractor or creative work, where a metal blade would score the surface underneath.
Used for its intended purpose, this is a very handy little cutter. Recommended if your needs match its design.
The Slice 10585 box cutter fits comfortably in my hand. The polished case helps the cardboard edges glide smoothly past the cutter while you're slicing a box. The ceramic cutter is sharp enough to slice blister-packs with ease.
Changing blades is a breeze. Just slide the bladeholder out of the case, flip it open, take out the old blade and insert a new model 10526 (which Amazon has in stock) Note that you can use each blade twice - they're reversible.
So far as durability goes ... I don't know. Haven't had it long enough for it to wear out. But ceramic blades are supposed to hold an edge for a long time and I don't see why this one would be the exception.

I've noticed other reviews where it's said that this cutter isn't good for breaking up boxes. You probably want to go with a *pointed* blade for that. This has the model 10526 rounded-tip blade. The pointy blade is the model 10528 - which you can buy on Amazon.
There are things to like and dislike about this. I like that it is thin, and easy to use. You can slice open packaging tape, and with a bit of effort cut cardboard. The cutter does not feel sharp, and I can rub my finger over it without cutting it. I am sure I can though if I tried. it comes with a rounded blade, which is not the best to cut into cardboard. You just slide the orange piece out, and open the cover to change blades. It is super quick and easy to change blades. I was able to use this to cut into some stick on wall paper without much damage to my drywall also.
The thing not to like about it is that there is no way to lock the orange part when you push it in. My son can easily push it out and start playing with it, and he is only 4. Also, I wish they gave 2 sets of blades so you can see how the pointy one works compares to the rounded one.
If you just need something to cut packages open, like the Amazon ones, this will work beautifully and it is safer. I can't tear the boxes down as easy with the rounded blade though, and still need my regular metal blades to do that. It also looks like a USB drive. It is a nice design, and does the job but don't expect to tear down anything heavy. For light use, and simple packaging opening, this does the job.
I love this box cutter. As I tend towards the clumsy, regular box cutters scare me as I am afraid I am going to cut myself. Recently, the town I live in has required that if we are going to recycle cartons, they must be cut no larger than 18 inches squares. As an Amazon reviewer (and regular customer) this has required using the old box cutter and one time I did cut myself.
This works just as well. I cuts all the way through on the first time and it is safe. I ran my finger across the blade portion of it and nothing happened. I liked it so much I ordered another one for my office. I highly recommend it.
Update after a few weeks of usage: it does tend to not cut as easily after using it for a while as it did when I first got it, especially with thick cardboard boxes. One may have to go over a cut twice. There is no way to "sharpen" the blade. However, given the safety factor, I would still choose this over a regular box cutter
After using for a few months, it did lose its ability to cut into larger boxes, but was still fine for smaller boxes or opening something. I do not know if replacement blades are available.
I like that the blade of the Slice is ceramic, and doesn't have a sharp point. This means you're not likely to draw blood when cutting up cartons. The problem is that the blade creates a very shallow cut. This is great for average shipping cartons with a single tape layer, but requires multiple passes for heavy duty reinforced packing tape or several layers of plain tape. The ceramic blade is sharp and cuts, it's just not as fast of lethal as a regular box cutter.
It's still a good thing to have around for households with a regular influx of boxes to break down, and I've used it daily since receiving.

Description
The Slice Smart Blade Cutter features Ergo-Pull Smart-Retract technology. This retracts the blade when it loses contact with cutting surface, even if finger is still on the slider-button. Patent-pending pull vs. push ergonomic slider action reduces finger strain and helps prevent injury from extra force at the end of the cutting movement.
With the number of Amazon boxes that show up at my house every week, having a good box cutter is a necessity. I like the blade on this box cutter since it can't cut skin like a metal blade, yet easily cuts the packing tape on boxes. The blade slides back into a metal cover for safe keeping when not in use, and pops out with just a slight push. When the blade eventually becomes dull, all you need to do is pull the orange plastic part completely out of the metal sleve, open the door, flip the blade over, and put everything back together.
Wow, I was skeptical about this little box opener, but it works very well! As a big Amazon household, we have a constant supply of cardboard boxes that need to be opened and then broken down for recycling. Generally, my husband and I use razor-sharp box openers for this task, but we are always worried that our young children will find these openers and injure themselves. I feel much better about having this little tool on hand. It doesn’t have a very sharp edge, so it won’t easily slice open hands, but it gets the job done.
This carton cutter works fine for basic box opening, but maybe not for heavy duty boxes. I have used it just fine on thin boxes and to cut packing tape to open boxes, which is what this design is mostly for. But the ceramic blade does not extend out more than maybe a quarter of an inch. So, because of that, it does not work well for cutting boxes that are any thicker than that. It is safer to use than a standard blade, which I appreciate. It's a handy tool to have around the house if you do a lot of opening of packages.
The Slice Carton Cutter has found a permanent place in my kitchen drawer. It is compact and easy to store, and it is retractable so I don’t worry about reaching into the drawer and cutting my hand. The blade cuts through plastic packing tape or paper tape like butter! I’m so glad I don’t have to struggle with opening packages any more! The blade is short, so cutting through actual cardboard boxes would be a challenge. But for light duty cutting of the Amazon packages I receive, this product is tops!
This is a much more substantial cutter than the one I have been using. That one holds a single-edge razor blade. This cutter is clearly intended to open cartons. There is another version with a pointed blade. This is perfect for me because I don't cut up cartons. I just open them, cut the tape on the bottom, flatten them and recycle. The lack of a point makes itr much safer to use.
This is a workable tool. It isn't intended to be carried in the pocket (won't lock). I like it.
