Ring Spotlight Cam Mount HD Security Camera, Black

Ring Spotlight Cam Mount HD Security Camera, Black

Ring Spotlight Cam Mount HD Security Camera, Black

There are four different versions of the Ring Light/Cameras. They are: 1. Ring Spotlight Battery Cam ($160), 2. Ring Spotlight Wired Cam ($160), 3. Ring Spotlight Mount Cam ($249) and 4. Ring Floodlight Cam ($249). I currently have three (3) of the Floodlight Cameras installed in my home. Excellent performance on all three. Never had one single problem and their customer support is always there if assistance was needed. I needed a fourth camera to be installed over my front entryway and I ordered the Spotlight Mount Cam because I wanted a unit that was a little smaller. Plus I didn't want to have to deal with batteries (You know when they're going to fail - just when you need them) and I wanted to mount this to a junction box and have no exposed wires. Well that was MY mistake. The thing that I did not know is that the "Spotlight" cams do not have the same capabilities of the "Floodlight" cams. Here are just a few things that are different with the Spotlight Cam: 1. Reduced light output and coverage, 2. No ability to set it for "automatic dusk to dawn" lighting, 3. The lights should not be left on for more then 30 minutes and 4. Reduced night vision capability and resolution. Why pay the same price ($249 for both the Spotlight Mount and the Floodlight models) and get "less" capability ?????
Ring's customer service was very willing to assist me in obtaining a replacement. The Spotlight cam was replaced with another Floodlight Cam. Slightly larger in size, but overall a much more capable light/camera system and is working flawlessly. THANK YOU RING FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

This is my second Ring Security Cam, I already have a Ring Video Doorbell 2 in use. Installed the new Ring Spotlight Cam Mount HD without any problems, Ring provides everything you need with this cam, instructions, tools and lots of different screws for different install situations. Installation was a breeze, love the fact Ring is now offering this hardwired model. Also setup was a breeze, firmware got updated instantly, everything works as it should, I have a strong Wi-Fi connection to my Asus ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 router. Video is of high quality (HD) with a very wide angle which I appreciate. One reviewer mentioned it would be nice if there were a possibility to permanently turn the spotlight off, I would support this request because I maybe want to install another Ring Cam in the back porch pool area and here I would not want the light going on and off all the time when I am in the pool area. I can highly recommend this cam, looks like it is made of very high quality materials, works great, happy camper here.

When the Ring Pro camera sees the EERO Pro mesh router (likely at full strength), it will ask for your Wi-Fi password during set up and unfortunately, after you ENTER IT PROPERLY, it does not connect?!? The Ring Pro camera "thinks" you have entered the wrong password, via their app setup, when...THAT IS NOT THE CASE. Then the camera goes from a flashing blue light to a flashing red light...BAD! Ring Tech told me to return the camera because they too thought it was defective.

After I got my replacement camera, the same thing happened again. I was pulling my hair out. To verify the Ring Pro camera was working properly, I temporarily hooked the camera to my iPad hot spot and it logged on and worked perfectly! So, I eliminated that the camera was defective itself.

What happens is that the EERO Pro mesh system is trying to connect via 5.2 or 5.8 Ghz ONLY!! The Ring Pro camera only operates at 2.4., even though EERO Pro does operate at 2.4 GHz. The mesh system did NOT want to change because the signal strength to the unit was "excellent" as it was less than 25 feet away from one of the EERO pods.

This time, I walked my iPhone (with the app) about a good 75-80 feet away from the EERO PRO mesh system to "force" the EERO to switch down to the 2.4 GHz band, before entering my Wi-Fi password...and THEN IT WORKED!

Again...take your phone, with the Ring app, and walk a good distance AWAY from the EERO Pro mesh system to FORCE IT to connect at 2.4 GHz!! Ring support did not know about this. EERO support was baffled. But now they both know! Do this or you will want to return this camera. Now it works great!

We bought this after using the Ring Doorbell and seeing how great the doorbell was, we figured this would work just as well. IT DOES!! It's very convenient to see who is meandering around my yard when I'm both home and away. One super cool thing about all the Ring products is the integration with my Apple Watch and iPhone. They work seamlessly together which is very convenient if I don't have my phone nearby. I highly recommend all of the Ring products. The customer service is great too. Always available to answer questions or help with any of their products. In fact, we are adding cameras to the back of our house now. It's not very often that a company maintains its integrity after being purchased by a larger company. Usually that is when customer service begins to suffer and product quality diminishes. Not with RING. I have not seen any of that.

Wired to new floodlight as described on page 42 of the manual. Which basically operates external lights up to 150 watts. 2 different cameras did not operate the lights. They do operate before setup. Once firmware is downloaded, they do not work. Going to return and try another set of cameras.

UPDATE: Ring support contacted me about the firmware problem. They have corrected the problem with the external lights. Everything works great. The extra lighting using the external lights illuminated a larger area of the yard. The Ring support was great in resolving this issue. I recommend this cam for anyone wanting to incorporate a cam on existing eve mounted lights.

This product does not work as advertised. While the motion detection and video is adequate, it was marketed as being able to be connected to an auxiliary light (such as a floodlight) for additional lighting. The auxiliary light is supposed to come on when the camera’s spotlight comes on. IT DOES NOT!! We tried two different cameras. Neither worked. An electrician verified that there is no power in the red wire that connects to the auxiliary light. Ring customer support was not helpful. They told us to get an electrician to verify our wiring. Both cameras were returned.

Update - Ring called me to tell me this problem has been fixed. They pushed a new firmware update to my camera and now the auxiliary lights come on with the Spotlight. It works as advertised now.

Although I would highly recommend this to others, the one caveat is the installation. The unit itself is easy to install, the challenge is the junction box, especially if you’re putting it on a vinyl siding wall.

Typically these walls contain very shallow junction boxes which make it almost impossible to properly secure the bracket/mounting plate and the three wires/nuts and harness (which extends out on the rear part of the bracket).

I had to completely remove the junction box and surrounding mounting block and replace it with an Arlington Siding Mounting Kit (which also contains an interior circular junction box). Although this gave me more room - and I trimmed the wires - it was still a challenge to completely (flatly) secure the round flush mounted bracket, aka Round Weatherproof Box Cover, to the junction box.

Also, many junction boxes have only two screw channels forcing you to cover the remaining two screw openings on the bracket with silicone or something similar. Once this challenge was met however the rest was easy and the unit took no time to be up and running.

I used this product to replace an old motion sensor light at the side of my house so the electrical box was already there. It was easy to install since my old light had twist-on wire connectors. Just twist off the old wires and replace with the Ring wires. Then screw the light to the electrical box. In terms of hardware, everything was as expected and worked first time. 5 stars.

WiFi setup was uneventful. The app is a little clunky. Videos pause for no reason and it takes a few clicks to get going again. There has been a few times when video was not captured. There have been times when the app did not alert me, but a couple of hours later when I looked, it had the video. Lost a star because of this.

Overall, despite the app problems, it works good enough.

Works great
Pictures and video are very clear
Husband said it was easy to install
( he’s an electrician)

Easy Install, but Linking it to System was Quite a Challenge even for the Ring Expert on the Phone.
Like most other Ring devices, it is quite Sensitive to any moving objects, even Rain Triggers it
Even when set to it's Lowest Sensitivity Level and @ Closest Parameters.
Those Fancy Settings Can't be Trusted,
they may work 50% of the Time, just as with the Ring DoorbellPro.
Sturdy Plastic Construction but should be of a Metal alloy, at least the Base
@$250 it's definitely"OverPriced"
