Petit Collage Mix and Match Magnetic Tin Robots

My 2 year old loves these. I haven’t let the older siblings play because they’d take over and never let the baby use them. He had fun for maybe 10 minutes. Haven’t brought them out again but will for sure soon. Sturdy and the images were cute!

My 4yo daughter loves them. We always have them for long car rides.

This is a self-contained magnetic puzzle set--for lack of a better name. It has more than 30 parts, none too small of presenting a swallowing risk and they are meant to be put together to form an almost endless variety of figures. The parts consist of faces, torsos, and legs--all in costumes to be matched or mismatched at will. There are also theme-appropriate accessories such as luggage. All these parts come in magnet-backed cardboard pieces and are easily separated and then can be stored in the metal box they come in. The inside of the book-shaped metal box has two backgrounds onto which the magnetic pieces can be placed. The pieces also can be assembled onto the refrigerator which is much more efficient because, that way, you can assemble many little figures and scenarios.

I ordered three of the sets, Little Travelers, Robot Remix and Animal Band. This gives me a much more ample play scenario--not necessarily interrelated, but why can't a robot carry a guitar or have a dog?

This is an imaginative and no-wrong-way to assemble puzzle like toy. I had three kids at my house for Spring Break and the 5 and 6 year olds loved it. The 8 year old boy (for whom the robot set was intended) was quickly bored.

If you only have one set, storing it in its container makes sense. If you have more than one, it's better to put everything in a zip-lock and let the kids mix to their heart's content. It's a lot of pieces to keep track of. I initially thought it would be a great toy for car or plane travel, but came to realize that the pieces are easy to drop, hard to sort through, so it's a home-based toy. that you have to keep on top of to not lose pieces..

Although we do have very young visitors from time to time, I got these for me.

Why?

Because I will use them in creating short stop-motion videos.

The 29 precisely die-cut pieces pop out easily from the thick, magnetic backed cardboard sheets.

You build characters and scenes on the two printed backgrounds inside the tin box the set comes in.

Oddly, the set consists of all female heads and bodies.

As a child, I remember having a set like this, filled with magnetic military themed cutouts. Times change.

An imaginative child will have literally endless fun arranging and re-arranging these pieces.

No flashing LEDs, no batteries required.

The pieces cling with sufficient force to minimize lost pieces.

This set can be described in one word: fun!

As noted, I intend to use this as a base for stop-motion videos.

Even though I am far from being a child (at least in terms of years), I think I’ll be getting many hours of fun from this set. And I intend to order at least one more from the publisher, the one with the robots.

I'm always looking for quality car toys and am delighted by this set. This is basically a magnetic, mix-and-match paper doll set. It comes in a high quality tin, that functions as the carrying case. The inside of the tin has two distinct "scenes". Your little one has to punch out the pieces from four , thick, cardboard based, magnetic backed "sheets" and can then assemble them in a mix and match manner inside the tins. There are heads, torsos and legs, with pets and accessories mixed in for good measure. You can create wacky combos or traditional ones. My three and six year olds had a great time playing with this. The pieces punch out easily and the tin is great for storage.

The reason I'm giving four stars vice five is twofold. First, after less than an hour of play, the layers of cardboard on the edges of some of the pieces were coming apart. Since I think this is relatively normal usage, I'm not sure of the long-term sustainability of this toy. Second, I wish they had included a small sack of some sort to keep the pieces in outside of the tin. If you're using the tin for play, you have to take the pieces out, and since it is a take-along toy, that leads to greater chance of loss. We've solved this problem with a ziplock bag, so it is hardly insurmountable, but still could be an improvement.

Description

Petit Collage Where Design Meets Play

We love one and a half hours from the beach and go quite often. My preschoolers get tired of watching movies after a bit so I keep a bag of toys in between their car seats for them to grab. This is the perfect size to fit in the grab bag and in their lap.

We first punched all the magnetic characters out of a cut out sheet with ease. As we came to find out, there are more characters than room so at first both sides weren't quite enough to easily fill with all of the pieces. You can comfortably fit two characters on at a time, maybe three, but definitely not four. I like the extra pieces though as it makes for more changeup. I remedied this by simply bringing a small sandwich size Ziploc bag. Now we keep the pieces in there so she can dig in and get whatever she wants without scattering pieces all over the floor boards.

The quality of the pieces is fairly good although I've noticed a few or a bit brittle. They stick well enough to the metal tin so they don't go anywhere when you hit a bump in the road. I think this is an absolutely great toy that keeps one of them entertained in the back of the car. I believe I'm going to purchase the robot version as well so they both can play at the same time.

The perfect size for a travel activity! Can easily be slipped into a purse, diaper bag, or carry-on. Great to pull out for non-digital entertainment in a restaurant, doctor's office, or while traveling.

I love the concept of a tin with magnetic pieces that can be arranged and rearranged to create different scenes. It's not quite as versatile as I would like as the characters/outfits are only separated at the waist (i.e. two pieces)-- so you basically can just mix-and-match top and bottom. It does include several accessory pieces such as luggage and pets, so that helps.

The pieces come die cut in a "frame" the same size as a tin with several pieces per frame, so you punch them out to play with them. We saved the frames so the pieces can be returned to their places when playtime is done... and that functions as a puzzle, which adds to the play value.

These are a lot of fun. I put mine up on my fridge within seconds of receiving them. They are particularly pertinent in my case, since I've been working on and off on a cultural history of robots in our civilization, artificial men in comic books, movies, novels, and television. I'm constantly pointing out to friends that all digital information will last forever and be processed and analyzed by future super mega computers and that I hope our future robot overlords will see that I'm welcoming their approach, hoping that they can't also understand irony. Anyway, if I hadn't gotten this as a free item to review, one of my friends might have given it to me as a Christmas gift. But you don't have to be all that much into robots to enjoy these. To be honest, however, if you don't have any special focus on robots in your life, these will be just as much fun. Plus, they come in a fun tin container.

This is a great magnetic tin traveler set by Petit Collage!

Both of my children are pretty good when we travel, but I love to be able to whip out a fun little tin like this and open it up and the looks on their faces when they see all the fun little people and animals they get to arrange on the countryside and mountain backdrop.

We did end up loosing a few of the smaller peices along the way... A bag and a puppy I believe.

Overall this is a fun little set of mix and match people and accessories. The price is amazing for what you get - the magnets are thick and strong, the people are all unique with different accessories/colors/shapes and such and of course everything stores right inside the tin for easy traveling!

Overall - A+++

This is a really cute toy set for young children to play with. The robot set comes with 24 magnetic pieces that have to be popped out of the cardboard sheet they come in. Personally, I broke them out rather than have the children do it, as they are not indestructible and the covering could be torn or the item bent, if not careful. With the magnetic box and the 2 scenes inside to be used with the pieces, it is a self contained set of fun for children to have a lot of fun moving the parts around and using their imagination of putting the robots in different places in/on the scenes. The price is great for what you get and the children sure seem to love moving the magnetic "robots" around on the refrigerator too! I can't wait to get the animal band next, as the pieces really look cute ! ! This toy set is really neat and makes a nice gift too !
