Our baby makes really bad decisions.

He prefers to sleep on his face. Not head tilted slighty to the left or the right - he sleeps square on his tiny, baby face. We tried moving him - again and again and again and failed miserably each time. We tried explaining that his choices were poor, but that also ended in failure. We tried reasoning, and failed before we started.

I found this through Google at 3am with search terms, "baby face sleeper" or something equally desperate. I bought it immediately, it arrived 2 days later, and it works.

I know my kid will continue to make questionable choices, and I will have to continue to try and find solutions. This is the best solution for our face-sleeper.

Thanks, Newton. Our baby can now certainly breathe, which means I can sleep.

Update: we've have had the mattress for about nine months and still love it. Kiddo sleeps well; it's very cool because of the air circulation, which is perfect for Florida; and it is very easy to clean, and I've cleaned both the cover and the interior portion. I continue to recommend this to any parents who are worried about their goofy, little face sleepers.

I love this mattress and the peace of mind that it comes with. Our 20 month old daughter passed away several months ago in her sleep of unknown causes (SUDC - Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood - similar to SIDS but in a child older than 12 months). Her little sister was only 16 days old when she passed. I know that her mattress had NOTHING to do with her passing but I wanted to do everything possible to find peace of mind with our new little one. We purchased the mattress and she has been sleeping great on it. We also tested it when we first got it and it is completely breathable and firm for a baby. I have also noticed our new little sweetie doesn't get so hot while sleeping. I HIGHLY recommend this mattress!

We bought a very expensive organic mattress for our son when he was born. It met every safety and environmental requirement there could be. Only problem was he refused to sleep on it cause it was hard as a rock! I also had a hard time leaving him in his crib overnight, worried that he would roll over and something would happen. I saw an advertisement for this mattress, did some research and decided to try it out for our newborn daughter. This mattress is amazing!! You really can put your face right on it and breath with no problem. I even have the Aden and Anais sheets on it and it barely effects the breathability. Best of all us it is actually comfortable! My daughter sleeps in her crib with no problem, and I can rest a little better knowing it's OK if she rolls over. I would definitely recommend this to any new parent, especially if you were already planning on buying one of the more expensive organic mattresses anyway.

This is a reeeaally expensive baby mattress...but, omg, is it amazing. It's so comfortable- not scary soft for a baby but also not uncomfortably hard, which seem to be the two options for most baby mattresses. My husband and I were absolutely shocked when we pressed our faces into it and could still breathe, we have had friends come over and breathe into it because it was that amazing, hah. I know parents will put out insane money to get our babies to sleep and while it didn't magically help our baby sleep through the night, it did buy us 15 more minutes of sleep between wake ups which is so worth it when your baby only sleeps for 45 minute intervals.the only thing I would change about this mattress is the feeling of the material. As mentioned in other comments, it's recommended that one not use a sheet but the material is more rough than I'd want to roll around on. In conclusion, I would absolutely purchase this mattress again.
UPDATE: We have had this mattress for almost a year and still love it. It isn't wearing down or dipping where he sleeps most often, the material isn't wearing down or tearing, it's still looking a feeling brand new. I plan to keep my now-toddler on it until his feet hang off the end! Great mattress, all around.

My son started rolling over last week and wanting to sleep on his tummy. When I saw his head face down on the camera I about had a heart attack. I immediately started searching the web for a breathable mattress and came across this on Amazon. After reading all of the positive reviews (only negative I found was price point) I decided to purchase. I opened it up and the first thing I did was shove my face into it and breathe. Yep, just like the others said, completely breathable. It fit perfectly in his crib (better than the one we have; Colgate eco 3). I washed the cover on delicate cycle, cold water, tumble dry low setting. Came out still looking and fitting like brand new. My son is taking his first nap on it right now. Fell asleep immediately and comfortably on his tummy. Peaceful baby and peaceful mommy. Every single parent should have this mattress.

**update- my sons cheeks also started to turn red when sleeping so I use the Aden and anais breathable sheet. I've found that he is much colder at night with this mattress so I have to dress him for a few degrees colder than the room really is.

We initially purchased a $70 mattress from Babys R US last June for our baby. It was working fine until he started rolling around at 5 months and sleeping face down...I was worried that he would suffocate. After some extensive research for a breathable mattress we decided to go all out and purchase the Newton which we are very glad we did. I'm impress with the quality and how easy it was to take of and put on the mattress cover. I wished I would have purchased this from the beginning. After reading about the chemical emissions from crib mattresses our baby could be exposed to while sleeping I was very shocked. I would recommend buying a 2nd Newton mattress cover in case the baby has an accident (which we were also glad we did get).

As a 1st time mom, I had a lot of anxiety about my baby suffocating at night. It was my #1 fear for whatever reason. I always knew I wanted a non-toxic crib and mattress, but also started looking into one that was breathable. Once my daughter was 6 months old and we transitioned her into her own room, we discovered that not only is she a belly sleeper, she sleeps completely FACE DOWN on her mattress. Ugh! She will put her hands on under each eye and then put her head on her hands and sleep that way all night. I have no idea how she breaths like that and there's no possible way I can keep her off of her face all night, every night. So, the need for a breathable mattress became even more important for us.

After a lot of research, I ordered this mattress. I also purchased organic, muslin sheets as I didn't want her sleeping directly on the mattress. She has now been sleeping on this mattress for the last 4 months and we love it! She sleeps very well and so do I as I feel as confident as I can be that she's sleeping on a mattress that's breathable. She also happens to be a baby who runs hot, and I find this mattress doesn't hold heat, which is excellent!

For a crib mattress, this is spendy. However, for us, there's nothing more important than providing a safe, non-toxic surface for our baby to spend half of her life on. We love this mattress and cannot recommend it enough!

We like our Newton mattress for peace of mind though it is really expensive. Very breathable. We also had the issue of our baby's face getting red and chapped while sleeping on her tummy (when she was 5 months). We washed everything, mattress cover, and her sheet (the aden and anais organic one) and haven't had a problem since but it was pretty alarming when she woke up with bright red cheeks.

I love this thing. No, really. It is amazing, and I would 100% buy an adult version if they made one (PS: Please make one!)

My child was an early roller and actually went back to front before rolling front to back, which is not the “normal” order of things. So there was a period of time when he would roll to his tummy in the middle of the night but couldn’t get back. It was concerning, but I managed to sleep because I knew he could still breathe.

Now at 6 months he can roll both ways, but these days he flips on his tummy to sleep and stays there the entire night. He literally starts to roll as soon as he hits the mattress, and he often has his face partially buried. If you have a baby that does this, then you know how concerning it is with the SIDS risk, but also how pointless it is to force them to sleep on their backs. I have never put him down to sleep on his tummy, but he literally flips that way within 2 or 3 seconds. This mattress gives us such peace of mind.

Baby loves it and sleeps great on it. It’s nice and firm. Cleaning it is super simple and the mattress pad that comes with it easily zips off for washing. Now that he’s older we do use sheets on it - we use the A&A sheets they recommend - but I have also used it without, and cleaning is not a problem.

Also, it fits our ikea crib great with no gaps.

Yes, it is more expensive than other crib mattresses. But you are buying an amazing piece of gear that baby will use for years. And it can be washed thoroughly for later kids and even recycled when you are done with it. I am a minimalist and did plenty of bargain shopping for baby, but there are a few things worth spending real money on. This is one of them.

We have purchased two of these amazing matresses. One for our 4mo old and one for our 20mo old. I love that it fits both the crib and toddler bed and made the transition from crib to toddler bed seamless. She slept in her toddler bed from day one on the same mattress we used in her crib and our 4mo loves it too and sleeps almost through the night. Worth every penny for the peace of mind, especially when you have kids that just don't want to sleep on their backs.
