I have run about 2-3 loads through this dishwasher every day since purchasing it a few weeks ago. Probably about the best money I have ever spent on a home related good. Ultimately I made it only 2 years in apartment living before caving to get this. The first was my senior year of college, and the second was last year. I grew up always having a dishwasher so to not have one was painful. I also find an almost bizarrely enormous sense of satisfaction loading up this little dishwasher, squirting a little Cascade gel in, and running it. It has taken me these few weeks to get loading it figured out correctly. I have found that bowls (larger ones anyways) really only fit well standing upright in the section designed for plates, so it's kindof a bowls load or a plates load type of deal. And when you need to wash some 'tupperware' type plastic containers, fuhgedaboudit. Those either go in 1 or 2 pieces with lids amongst a load of other more orderly items, or just scattered about on their own.

Seriously though, the amount of silverware my wife and I go through is almost insane. I'd say we rotate our entire 12-piece set about once every 2 to 3 days; not the big spoons of course though. Those only get used for soup. So when I think back to doing that all manually, it makes my hands feel clammy and dry like they used to get after spending hours in that hot soapy water.

Now I get to listen to the little dishwasher that could wrshump --- wrshump --- wrshump in an oh-so-relaxing cadence while I relax and ponder how the 3.8 gallons (much less than I would have used manually) and .31 kWh will only cost me a few pennies. Isn't technology marvelous?

My parents own a Bosch 800 series washer. Yes those are so dang quiet that you can barely hear it run. But I'm serious when I say that this washer is just about everything the Bosch is, just with about 1/3 of the space inside. It doesn't have all the crazy control buttons, but once you set it to your 'normal' setting, all anyone does is load it up and push Start anyways! And it is actually pretty quiet too, assuming you don't load something in such a way that it directs the water spray straight onto the door (or load a giant 'tupperware' item right next to the door, as those (larger) plastic items tend to make more noise from the water jet).

As for the packaging. Wow. The packaging was designed to withstand CRAZY, like, delivery truck rolled over type accidents or something. It was double boxed, with the internal box suspended by foam inserts at all corners of the outer box. And the washer itself was suspended in the inner box by cardboard pieces at the corners. Dang son. I carried it up the (one) flight of stairs to our apartment and I actually strained my back just a bit. It is heavy, but more than that, awkwardly huge due to the intense packaging, so you end up with a huge lever arm pulling down on you. Seriously, get your friend to help you bring it in your place.

I am retired and eat three meals a day usually in my own apartment. I got to feeling like all I did all day was wash dishes and my hands were feeling it. I can't wear the gloves as they do not help my nails at all. I decided to purchase this counter top dishwasher as a Valentine Day present to me! I am happy about the fast delivery by Fedex! The package was big and heavy as it was packed so well! It comes with a faucet adapter so do not purchase one, like I did and now have to return it. The set up is easy even for a woman alone! I watched a You Tube video by Edgestar as that is the maker of this dishwasher and then went for the set up. I was a little nervous when I turned it on but another You Tube video is available on how to operate the dishwasher....it is another brand but they are essentially similar. I have not had a dish washer in many years and I am sorry I waited so long to get one but happy to be an owner of this wonderful countertop dishwasher. The price is a real bargain as I researched it and Amazon had the best price plus free shipping! My hand dish washing days are gone thanks to the Koldfront countertop dishwasher!

Never again. This was what I said after having 8 people over to my house for enchiladas one night, having used just about every single dish, pan, and utensil in my kitchen. The week following the party I let them sit in the sink and collect a mixture of questionable colors and smells before I broke down for a 2 hour hand-washing session on Saturday morning.

This just can't be. I had to find a solution to avoid housework and automate this in my tiny appliance-less San Francisco kitchen, and this one came in the form of the Koldfront Portable Countertop Dishwasher.

Now I'll start the review of how and why we ended up with this. I first began my search process on craigslist and found a number of way over-priced used options. After doing my reviews online (mostly amazon), I decided that the best option was this one after reading many reviews and it has a solid 5/5 stars which is a great place to start. I soon discovered that there is another brand that is basically the exact same to this one, called "Edgestar 6" which is the slightly more upscale model as it has a LED screen on the unit. We didn't think we needed this, and in our current 4 months of use with the Koldfront one we have never once changed the setting to anything besides "normal" so that's up to you to decide if it's worth paying more for.

To start, most of the used versions were going for around $100-$150 on craigslist and this new one we got was $189- thus making the purchase totally worth buying new for us. There is a shipping charge (something Prime-ers are averse to), but the overall price made sense and it was worth the wait.

Compact Appliance is a pretty cool site that also sells these washers, and has a video review, but we ended buying on Amazon since it (was) tax free. Word of warning: I did sign up for email offers from Compact Appliance to see if there was any kind of a discount and since then have unsubscribed from their list probably 7 times and still keep getting emails. I just sent a plea to their customer support asking to somehow get me off of this list as its a pretty frequent mailer.

PROS:
Fits on our counter-top and is very stable due to its weight
Works perfectly--- dishes are spotless and clean
Easy open top so dishes can completely dry in the machine when you tilt the top open
Durable on top so you can use the counter space for recycling (Just bought these Ikea neat organizers that fit perfectly top of the machine.
The connector for our sink is the same doodad as the washing machine so there are no issues using them both without changing anything
The hose from the machine has a de-pressurizer which is the red button and lets out the water so there is no excess water to spray out when you unhook the faucet (definitely nicer than the hose on our washer)
The water goes in/out through the same hose so it enables you to let some water out into the sink when you are running the washer without having to un-hook everything if you need to rinse something off or wet a sponge, etc.
The rack rolls out easily onto the door and functions just like a normal dishwasher that you'd have at home, just 1/3 the height of a regular one.

CONS:
The hose is longer than we'd like. The unit is right next to the sink and the hose is meant for a longer reach so it coils around with some excess. We can probably fix this at home depot if we really want to.
The hose that connects everything attaches from the back of the machine (see rear photo), meaning that it is a bit larger than the actual dimensions it gives you. Our countertop was the exact size as the machine depth, but when we put the hose in the back, it now sticks out about a 1/2 inch off the front since the hose needs space.
Dish height- the unit says that it washes 6 place settings, but I'll say that those place settings should be the smaller end size plates. We have this set of ikea plates and since getting the washer tend to use the smaller size, versus the larger plates, since its so much easier to load. The larger plates will fit, however it's just easier to load the washer in the back when the plates in the front are smaller
The instructions recommend that you load the utensils upside down- which can be dangerous when you have knives, etc. Makes me a little paranoid, but not a big deal.
The unit beeps when it is done and keeps beeping once ever 5 minutes-ish. Doesn't quit for a few hours so that can get annoying on a lazy sunday :)

Detergent: We use the cascade all-in-one detergent capsules because it's really just easier. As for cost it comes out to about $0.50/load with the all-in-one and about $0.20/load with the powder detergent. Obviously changing based on where you buy your supplies, but we don't cook much so its worth it to make life easier with the ActionPacs.

Overall a great buy. Totally worth it's price in the amount of hand dishes I have saved. I no longer try and eat on paper plates or order take-out to avoid doing the dishes. Absolutely love it and highly recommend this one.

Happy dinner-partying!

We rent our home, and it does not have a dishwasher. There is not a space in our kitchen for one (the home was built long ago before those types of things were taken into consideration) but we do have some decent counter space, and THIS WASHER HAS BEEN A LIFESAVER! We use it nearly every day! It's high quality, was delivered without spot or blemish, and you can't beat the piece for a piece of specialty equipment like this. We couldn't be happier with the purchase; we've had this item for a several months now, and it's paid for itself just by decreasing our utility bill. It uses little electricity, little water, and our dishes are always spotless. I would recommend this to anyone who can't afford a large washer and who doesn't want to buy one of those washers that's on rollers and you have to wheel it in and out of your kitchen. This just sits on our counter like a microwave (just bigger) and it has saved us so much time and money! I would recommend to anyone!

I love this dishwasher. I had a full size portable before, but it actually was too much dishwasher for me as I live alone and it took too long for me to be able to fill it up with dishes to justify a washing. I run this unit every few days, and have no problem fitting in any of my dishware. If you have larger plates you can simply slant them and they will fit. It also has removable racks for much larger pots and pans to easily fit. The only thing I don't think will fit in it is a cookie sheet, but I'm still working on a way.

I hate doing dishes and this has done an immense job for me. It's very quiet, heats the water to 149 degrees, does a somewhat good job of drying the dishes, but I never used the dry cycle on my larger machine, just opened the door when the cycle was over. Since there is no top shelf you can angle the dishes directly to the spray arm for best cleaning. I use dishwasher tabs and have not had a problem.

For the price you pay, how clean the dishes get, the high temp rinse and wash, you cannot beat it. I also personally think it's disgusting to wash dishes in a sink with warm water and slosh around filthy water back onto the dishes.

It's a dishwasher and just having one is enough for me. It's a pretty easy set up. My only complaints are the beep to let you know it's finished is too quiet and you're supposed to open the dishwasher to air it out after it's done.. So there have been a few times I didn't hear the beep and left it closed longer than the product said I should have. No harm came to the washer because of it. Also, despite the use of jet dry some of my dishes particularly my clear plastic cups come out foggy. If you were thinking of putting big pots and pans into this dishwasher, think again.. It's meant mostly for silverware, cups, bowls, plates.. Ect. I've always washed my pans by hand anyway. Otherwise, I'm really happy with this product. It came quickly, shipped well and it does its job.

I actually find this a great piece of addition to my appliances. I recently bought and so far very good. Should have purchased sooner since after preparing food I find doing dishes and cleaning up was such a chore but now I am happy for the little helper. I also use it te wash my veges and fruits with the pre wash cycle. I do it twice once with a few drops of bleach AND THEN DO A SECOND PRE WASH. YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO Pack it so that it does not fall through. I use mesh bags for this but I need small mesh trays or pieces of flat mesh to rest on the wide spaces to make more use of this appliance. THANK YOU KOLDFRONT. THANK YOU. I AM HOPING TO GET MANY YEARS OF TROUBLE FREE SERVICE.

I don't understand the bad views about this product. First off, I have never had a dishwasher that DIDNT ask you to rinse the dishes off before putting it in the dishwasher. That is really for your own sake - sure, it makes them easier to clean, but it also keeps it from clogging up the dishwasher. Item came with a chip in the corner but I barely notice it and it doesn't affect the cycle. The only annoying thing is that the dishwasher gel flap does not open mid cycle, so I have to leave it open. Otherwise it is absolutely worth the money I paid for it. Didn't buy it for laziness, just didn't have time to do dishes, so this was a life saver. Fits great on my counter, easy to install, easy to remove the hose attachment when you need the sink (when it's not running of course. What's neat though is that my spray nozzle works while it's running if I need it). It's really an ingenious design. Highly recommended.

Ah-maz-ing! We have been struggling in a rental with a small kitchen and no dishwasher. This unit works exactly as advertised; my dishes get very clean and it is the quietest dishwasher I've ever had. Also it uses 3.8 gallons of water per load. Now, full-sized energy star rated dishwashers usually run about 4 gallons per load, so it's not super efficient in that sense, but hand washing uses WAY more water. The average gallon per minute that comes out of your kitchen faucet is like 2 gallons per min. So, unless you can wash and rinse a 6-piece place setting in two minutes, this thing is going to save you water.

I don't know why we hesitated for so long to try this! It is worth the money! I am very pleased, and the item arrived within three days of ordering. We have been using this on a rolling microwave cart and it works great. The unit was just too big to put on our counters. Most people said that they use dishwasher tabs with it, but we have soft water and the booklet that it came with said to use less detergent for soft water. We use ecover brand (natural tablets) so I have been cutting them in half. I wish there were smaller sized tablets available for this.

I highly recommend the seller and the dishwasher!

This dishwasher is great if you have a small apartment or a small kitchen/counter space. If loaded correctly, all the dishes come out clean. It does its job as described. It comes with all the hook-up's to your faucet and exta long hoses. My only dislike is the electrical cord is not as long as the water/discharge hoses. Other than that, it is a great product.
