**Updated review: As mentioned in the comment below the gauge 2.0 app is now available in the app store. This has given me a better idea of what the product can offer and I have changed my review to 4 stars. Overall I'm pleased with the device. That said, I do wish more data was available for download into the appropriate apps. Hopefully more apps and features will be available as time goes on.
This device has great potential but so far I'm a bit disappointed. At the time of this review the Mojio Gauge app does not seem to exist anywhere in the iOS app store. Their website shows this app as being available for both iOS and Android but this does not seem to be the case. The Cloak and Trek app are available and seem to be decent (looking at update history its clear they are not frequently updated however). Its hard to know exactly what data I'm missing out on without the gauge app. The lack of the Gauge app is misleading and a bad first impression for me.
I was hoping for extensive data and information but so far this device really seems to shine as a GPS tracker and that is about it. The only data I'm really finding is gas quantity, mileage, and battery status. Honestly I was expecting quite a bit more information. I bought two of these and will likely be returning one of them. I'll keep the other for the car I keep parked on the street in case it is stolen as the GPS info could be helpful.
I'll update this if/when the gauge app is released and I have additional experience. First impression however is disappointing.
Pros:
- 1 device for both vehicle tracking and diagnostic info, less cumbersome
- very competitive price, more affordable than purchasing 1 tracking device and 1 ODB device
- include 1 yr 3G network service, 2nd yr projected to be around US$4.99/month
- easy to use
- really easy to install on OBD-II Port, line up and plug it in, if it starts flashing, it's good
- easy to install apps on Android smartphone.
- Mojio Gauge for ODB diagnostic info and call info
> it knows the VIN # immediately, brand & model
> it shows me related recalls for that model of vehicle with information (e.g. only affect manual-shift or auto-shift)
> it shows current location and path on map
- Mojio Cloak for vehicle tracking (this is so good)
> it notifies you whenever the car is started and moving whether you're in the car or not
> it takes about 10 seconds after the car is started for me to receive the notification
> location tracking seems quite good, it can really track approx where I park in a big parking lot, or in front of my friend's house address
- online dashboard for more information, e.g. last 1 day, 10 days or 30 days.
- can be installed same apps on multiple devices (just sign-in with same account)
- can be used for multiple vehicle, if you choose to put it on another vehicle, simply plug it the device and let it detects the vehicle details and confirm. (it's especially good in testing to ensure whether you want to purchase another one for individually tracking all your cars, I may purchase another one ;)
- there are other Android apps being developed by other providers, some can even send you emails for information
- doesn't seem to drain battery life
- support is friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. No immediate support via phone but if you leave a support ticket on their support website or send in an email, they will reply within 24 hours. The support rep even checked up some related info of my car record before replying, so didn't waste both of our time, the reply also included possible reasons and solutions. Once the communication started, the support almost replied to my emails immediately to answer any related questions i had.
Cons:
- no hotline support, no immediately chat support
- no user knowledge forum (except installation related FAQ available)
- Reception of 3G might be lost occasionally if cell signal provider is having issue (that was what happened, 3 hours lost of updates from the device possibly due to Cell signal issues)
- weak/no signal if used in a basement garage or storm shelter garage
I installed this on my teenage son's car. I was a little skeptic at first due to some of the reviews claiming that the apps were buggy. I have had no issues with the apps, the device works flawlessly every time. I have Version 2/Platform 9.1 of the Mojio Trek app, probably a later version than what other reviewer have. This is by far is the best solution for the money for remote monitoring a teen driver. The fact that it has it's own At&t 3G connection and GPS and does not rely on a Bluetooth connection to a phone makes this product far superior than other competitors such as Automatic or other OBD II port car monitors. The web app from Mojio gives even more detailed information in one place, including the Max RPMs, Speed and even G Forces. This is a must for monitoring any driver's habits. Works as advertised and the price point is great at $149, including the 3G service for 1 year.
Excellent hardware, but the Mojio Trek software link to the Amazon echo doesn't work as advertised. Currently you cannot link using an iPhone (blank page). Also once you establish the Amazon echo skills link on a droid device there's no vehicle tracking information available.
UPDATE: The Mojiio technical support team is excellent. After submitting an email to their technical support team I received a prompt response within two days. Seven days later they fixed all the bugs I reported.. I am happy to say the Mojiio works great with the Amazon echo now.
Really great addition to my home automation systems, and general car maintenance.
Downsides:
1. Monthly service charge after first year.
2. No Bluetooth support, only dependent on the AT&T transceiver built into unit.
Feature Product
- Easy to use: installs in seconds in your car's OBD port
- Compatible with Amazon Echo
- 3G Cellular Connection: unlike other devices that rely on bluetooth and drain your smartphone's battery, the Mojio device's always-on 3G connection ensures you and your car are always connected, even when you're miles away.
- Vehicle Security with GPS: the Mojio Cloak app keeps track of your car's location at any time, even when you're not in it, and alerts you if it's being stolen or driven by someone else.
- Vehicle Diagnostics and Maintenance: the Mojio Gauge app unlocks diagnostic and maintenance data from under your hood to help you save money and keep your car in great shape.
