As a standalone charger, this one does pretty good and I like the versatility to charge other items with the USB female plug vs. something hardwired that allows me to charge other USB-type devices in addition to something that uses a micro USB port.
Charging time is faster for a Kindle Fire vs. my regular e-Ink Kindle charger, but since I haven't - and rarely - fully drain one of my Fires I cannot comment on the "faster" aspect for charging a Fire: I just know it works, and it does seem to charge my phone faster than the plug that came from Verizon. That’s not a shocker as this one is 9 watts vs. 5 for the “normal” charger.”
This is a replacement model to the original 9W PowerFast charger. Rather than the prior model’s square look this one is longer in a rectangular form and sticks out further from the socket. That seems to add more clutter to a wall socket. This year’s model also has rigid prongs (what you stick into the electrical socket) vs. the fold-down version of the prior model that gives it a lower profile. I didn’t think too much of it at first, but the longer profile of the rectangular design, in addition to the electrical prongs not folding down into the charger, means it takes up a little bit more room in my laptop bag. That’s not good for me as now it won’t fit in a side pocket for my brand of laptop bag and goes into the general pile of stuff that floats around in the main bag.
$19.99 seems to be a lot for an adapter of this power size, and it is: despite my comments on the changes above, the PowerFast chargers Amazon makes do seem to last. I’ve never had one break as other brands do, I just keep leaving them in random hotels and airports while traveling and have to buy another! If you are looking for a solid and longer-lasting charger for your tablet, I would recommend this one.
I bought this for my daughter who borrows my older version constantly. We used it last night and it only charged about 20% overnight. I came to read the reviews and noticed a few people stating that they changed cables and it worked like it was supposed to. I grabbed a different cable and it charged 30% in less than 20 minutes. It definitely works with the RIGHT CABLE. If Amazon knows the cable makes a difference, either note what cable we need in the description or sell it with the correct cable. Glad I tried a different cable before I sent it back.
I was noticing that my kindle was not charging fast or good enough so I bought a charger from a seller, didn't work it took too long, so I called Amazon and they we're like always kind enough to send me this charger plus the 5ft USB to Micro-USB Cable at no charge, arrived fast and it charges faster then the other one, I'm happy Thanks Amazon you're great. If you find yourself in a situation like mine don't buy any other charger then the one that is for the Kindle, just because they are chargers they are not the same.
Works about ten times faster than the original white charger that came with my Fire. The original charged so slow that I lost battery charge even while plugged and using the Fire. Amazon should be ashamed for making you buy a charger that works after providing a charger that sucks. not Amazon should be a stand-up company and say you have to pay about thirty bucks for a decent charger and cable for a fifty dollar device.
Am I doing something wrong? This charger is slower while charging my Kindle Fire than the "low powered" charger. It has been plugged in for at least 12 hours and has only gone from 4-10% battery!! Can someone let me know what is wrong with this or me? Otherwise I will be trying to return it!
UPDATE:: I had tried two different USB cord connectors, but when I tried a third just today, the charger finally worked well! It went from 0-100% in less than 3 hours! Why should this matter and why wasn't I made aware of this before? I was operating under the thinking that it was the charger that was important, not the connecting cord. Not so, apparently. Because of that, 4/5 stars.

Description
Amazon 9W PowerFast Official OEM USB Charger and Power Adapter for Fire Tablets and Kindle eReaders
Purchased this and the Amazon Kindle Fire 5ft USB to Micro-USB Cable (works with most Micro-USB tablets) at recommendation of an Amazon rep when I contacted Amazon to tell it that the charger that came with my toddler granddaughter's Amazon Kid's Fire that I purchased for her for Christmas was defective and unsafe for her. Rep was very kind in helping me. Received both items in 2 days, pronto. Fit perfectly with its compatible charger and my granddaughter's Amazon Kid's Fire was up and running within an hour! Granddaughter happy, Grandma happy. AND it is much safer. BTW, it fits my daughter's Apple iPhone 6 and charged it super fast. When she told me, I tried it on my Samsung Galaxy S4; it fits my cell and also charged it superfast.Great products! Thank you Amazon.
Works as described. The only thing I don't like about this new design is the plug prongs don't fold down as the cube style fast charger does. However, it works, and that's most important. Wish I could take off half a star for the nonfolding prongs. I often bring my charger with me and I like the folding prongs into itself to protect them from becoming damaged or bent/broken.
I Knew When I Bought My Kindle 10 That A 5 Watt Adapter Was Going To With The Kindle. But With All Of My Experience With My Other Two Kindle Tablets, The Same Day I Ordered My Kindle 10, I Ordered This Amazon 9 Watt Powerfast Charging Adapter, Why ? Because It Charges A Kindle A Lot Faster Than The 5 Watt Adapter That Comes With The Kindle 10.
So I'm Using The 5 Watt Adapter With My Spare USB Cord To Keep My Klipsch - R6 Bluetooth Wireless Earbuds Charged That I Bought For My Kindle 10, As The Klipsch R6 BlueTooth Earbuds Charge Fast Anyway.
So With This Amazon 9 Watt PowerFast Charger Adapter I Have The Best Of Both Worlds. Fast Charges On My Kindle 10 And A fast Charge On My Klipsch Bluetooth Earbuds.
It charges VERY fast, but I don't like the shape of it. It's heavy, so when you plug it into the wall outlet it doesn't go all the way in. It still charges it, but if your wall outlet cover is too thick, it can fall off, which is why I can't use it in my bedroom. That specific outlet cover is thicker than the rest of the other covers in my home.
Fantastic charger! I have two of these, because the speed is excellent. I charge android devices and kindles with this bad boy. They charge in less than half the time--easily. Probably faster, but that is the estimated rate I have noticed so far. I am always surprised to check on the status of the device charging to find it charged!
Great product. Good job, Amazon.
