I lost my power adapter for my first generation Kindle, and I came to Amazon to replace it. I am so glad that the first generation accessories are still available. I do wonder why the Kindle creators would not have made the power adapters exactly the same, so that they could be interchangeable. It seems that would help to keep manufacturing costs down, to have the same adapter. Oh well, at least I was able to replace my lost adapter quickly. Thanks, Amazon!
P.S. Still love my Kindle, and still get lots of "oohs" from folks. There are still a lot of folks who aren't aware of the Kindle, which surprises me.
I'm going through my orders, reviewing everything I failed to review at the time of purchase. I very rarely use my Kindle 1 anymore, but I keep it on hand in case of need. I usually keep this power cord in the glove box of the car, again in case of need.
Myself you can't go wrong with ordering the original adapter for the Kindle. Yes, there are others out on the market, but for a home AC adapter, this is what I think is best. It's the one that Amazon makes, has a long cord and you know you're getting the right product. Yes, they were on backorder but now they're in. I ordered an two extra to keep on hand for those "just in case" scenes.
I decided to get a second power adapter for my Kindle, and it has been a great idea. Now when I travel I don't have to unplug the power adapter by my bedside nightstand (which involves some gymnastic moves to be able to contort my body into the correct position to reach it). I keep a bag with power cords and adapters for all my essential electronics (Kindle, Blackberry, and IPod) so that when I am going on the road I just have to grab one bag and I am good to go.
This product works fine. Unlike some rechargers I have dealt with, the connection is solid and doesn't become loose with time. My only warning is that be careful that you do not accidentally step on the cord (which is a pretty good length) when you pick up the Kindle. Twice, I have done this and pulled the little wire out of the connection, forcing me to buy two replacements (so far).
Feature Product
- Approved charger for Amazon Kindle
- Fully charges Kindle in two hours or less
- 5 foot length
- Molded-strain relief
Description
Replace or supplement your Amazon Kindle 1 power adapter with a spare. This item is the same as the one that ships in the box with your Kindle 1. Simply plug the adapter into a wall outlet and connect to your Kindle 1 for recharging. Its universal design means that it works around the world, with the help of a physical country adapter plug (sold separately).
I use my Kindle several hours a day, every day. I got tired of being at work and realizing that I had let the battery run down. My bad. Now I keep one adapter in my backpack and the other in my kitchen. I never worry about running out of juice in the middle of a great book no matter what time of day or where I am. And for the price, this is one very worth-it investment.
Took my kindle on a trip and when I returned I discovered I had left my kindle charger at the Hotel. Although I called there several times, got no results. I even knew where I had left it. How could they not find it??!!!
Ordered a replacement on Amazon and received it within 2 days! what a life saver. I love my kindle and probably would have gone into withdrawal if I had to wait too long!
Thank you Amazon for saving my sanity.
Thank God I found this replacement! I thought I lost all my books!
I thought my gen 1 Kindle had one foot in the grave and would break into tears at the mere thought of replacing it with a new one (I am attached okay!). I plugged in my Kindle one night, and the next time I turned it on instead of a full battery I was showing a bar gone. I plugged it in again and realized the charge light was not coming on anymore, I attempt to charge via USB, nothing. As my Kindle's battery life slowly slipped away, I made one last attempt to save it's life and ordered the replacement charger. It worked! My Kindle is as good as new!
This was on back order from Amazon when I first needed it, so I ordered a non-proprietary replacement adapter from Charger City which I thought would arrive sooner. I spent the extra for expedited delivery - only to find that the replacement power adapter did not work at all. A complete waste of money and time. Fortunately I still had my Amazon Replacement Adapter on order and it shipped and arrived only a few days later. It works perfectly.
My advice: worth paying for the Amazon version of Kindle accessories.
