It was frustrating trying to find a big, good, reasonably priced wine cooler. After lots of research I chose the Kingsbottle 164, and I ended up buying it from Amazon. I tried Wayfair first, but they couldn't figure out their own inventory and shipped the wrong unit twice. This is a big, heavy unit (300 lbs), so it's not something you want to just toss in a box and send back. I also have a three year old Eurocave Comfort 266 as a basis for comparison. First off - this is no Eurocave, nor would I expect it to be at half the price. It is louder and has a wider range of temperature variation among many other more minor issues. This unit has one of the broadest room operating temperature ranges of any cooler, which distinguishes it from the pack of other Chinese-made wine coolers. It also seems to have a two-year warrantee (according to the Kingsbottle site), although the Amazon listing has it at 1 year. Hopefully I won't have to find out.

Packaging: The cooler arrived reasonably well packaged, but the outside of the box looked like it had been used for kickboxing practice. Under the box, there were two shallow dents on the right side of the cooler, which I decided to live with. The bottom of the unit was not well protected, so it was bent in several places to the point where the door was locked even in its unlocked position. After some bending back in the right direction on the bottom frame, things looked okay and the lock worked correctly.

Set-up: Following the advice on all compressor-based coolers, I put the unit in position, leveled it and waited 24 hours to plug it in. There was a fairly strong machine oil smell whenever the compressor was on, which I attributed to a new equipment annoyance that would go away. After three weeks it has gone away somewhat, but it's not completely gone. I contacted Kingsbottle about the smell, but they just referred me to Amazon, who of course have no insight into the manufacture or operation of a wine cooler. That's probably not a good sign of Kingsbottle standing behind their product, which was a comment made by other reviewers. I set the two zone temperatures 4 degrees higher on the bottom (52 & 56) as suggested in the manual.

Use: Initially I loaded about 140 bottles of wine into the unit from two older coolers that I am retiring. Like most Chinese-made coolers, the fixed shelves are tight on many bottle types. How hard is it to design-in adjustable shelves? Somehow that simple engineering feat eludes wine cooler manufacturers, yet they get pounded on inflated capacity in all their reviews. The sliding wood shelves look good and seem strong. Being careful to use my smallest Bordeaux bottles on the far sides on each shelf, I got 11 bottles per shelf on 10 shelves and either 10 or 9 bottles on the rest. Three of the 16 shelves are high enough for any type of bottle (#1,7&16). I think I'll get at least 164 bottles in once it's all loaded. Temperature regulation is okay, but it moves about 4 degrees up before kicking in the compressor. The fans work separately from the compressor to distribute the cool air in-between cycles. There is no humidity control.

Summary: While there are some worrisome aspects of this unit that only time will tell, it looks good and it represents good value for a big wine cooler.

I really do love this cellar. I think it is beautiful and it was packaged/shipped very well (5 out of 5 stars).
The 2 things that keep me from giving 5 stars are as follows
1. When its running it is not a quite piece of equipment. It is easily the loudest appliance in our kitchen when the fan is running. Lucky for me its permanent home will be in a pantry.
2. For some larger bottles the shelves are about 1/16" too close together.
2a. I don't have it fully loaded yet, but I will be very surprised if I get 170 bottles in it.

So far so good. Its a bit noisy.
