It's a nice adapter, and I like the fact that the prongs swivel and it's smaller than older adapters and storage is easier, however, I just keep mine plugged in to the power bar.
However, I didn't need to buy it as the old cable and adapter from my Keyboard fit the new Paperwhite, but I wasn't certain, so I ordered it. Now I have two cables and adapters, which isn't bad as I can charge both Kindles at the same time if need be, BUT I could have saved the money, the shipping and the aggravation.
I e-mailed customer service and specifically asked them about it and got a nonsense answer. I went to the Q&A on Amazon and looked it up-got a better answer, but not specifically for the 3G Keyboard/Paperwhite.
Two days after I got my Kindle, I was googling another Paperwhite question I had on Yahoo!, not Amazon, and up pops that specific question and answer: Yes, the charging cable and adapter from a 3 G Kindle Keyboard will fit the 3G Kindle Paperwhite. I've no idea why that popped up, because that wasn't what I asked, but I was happy to finally have the answer, however weirdly I obtained it.
It would have been rather unfair to the USB power adapter to give it 3-stars when my beef is really with customer service and their nonsensical and unhelpful answers, and with the information available on Amazon. It should be spelled out which cables and adapters will fit what, so that we don't have to make duplicate purchases. Initially I gave it 3-stars because of that and I never do this in reviews, but, a month in, I'm still rather annoyed about it. I did change it to 5-stars before submitting it because it is a very nice and blameless adapter/cable.
If you love your Kindle, then the 5W USB power adapter is an absolute must. You'll recharge your Kindle faster and you won't need to be tethered to a computer to do it.
If you are like me, you probably hate cabling to a laptop or desktop computer if you have some alternative. That is what this power adapter is for me, the alternative to connecting a Kindle to a computer. Just grab the adapter, connect your Kindles USB cable to it, plug the mini USB2 plug into your reader, and plug it into a nearby wall outlet. You'll be fully charged in no time.
The Kindle 5-watt USB power adapter is one of the best investments you can make.
UPDATE: December 2014... The charger is not properly charging the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 at high-speed. It still charges the Kindle Paperwhite at a reasonable speed. I don't know why the difference in performance unless there is some voltage drop or other internal issue. I have a charger from a Lenovo A10-70 tablet that can charge the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 at high-speed, though.
I ordered this and a new Kindle Fire 5ft USB to Micro USB Cable because my KIndle Fire would not charge .
It started several months prior to it not charging at all. It would charge sporadically and i did not realize this. I just figured I was using it and it needed more frequent charging or it was my Power adapter and cable It was not !
The charging port on my Kindle Fire had broken inside the device. I did some research and I found out after the fact that this had been a problem when the Kindle Fire came out. Poor design. unfortunately for me my KIndle Fire was past the warranty date. Unfortunately for Amazon based on this experience I did not purchase a new Kindle.
I am able to use this power adapter and cable on other devices ( like my phone) and it works great . highly recommend
A handy and helpful accessory for the Kindle Voyage. The disappearing tines tuck into the body, making it convenient for travel and storage as well as lengthening its useful life. Solid, well-constructed, and speeds up recharging anywhere there is a power outlet. I got it because the computer often stays at home while the Kindle Voyage travels with me. Not often needed because of the long life of the Kindle battery, but who would want to interrupt their reading in the unlikely incidence of exhausted battery? Compact and reliable.
People here are complaining about the price; however, while the price changes, the product does not, so I wanted to review the actual charger, not what the price is.
This is a high quality charger, and it looks, feels, and works very solidly. The build quality is on par, or even slightly better, then Apple 5W chargers- the ones that come with iPhones and sell for $20.This is larger then the Apple charger, however the plug folds into the charger, which makes it more convenient then the Apple one. The hinge-action on the plug is very smooth and oozes a high-quality feel. All in all, no complaints. Very good build quality. I've used it on half a dozen devices by now and it's worked great with all of them.
While the price may seem a bit steep, in terms of price it's on par with products from similar companies such as Apple and Samsung, while the build quality is superior. If the price drops to $10 or less, I'd definitely recommend it.

Well I am not going to whine and complain that this charger was not included with the Kindle Paperwhite I bought nor am I going to grumble about the cost of the thing. I am a big boy and knew what I was getting and what it cost when I bought it. I ordered it when I ordered my new Kindle as well as the case for the Kindle...there again, Amazon did not twist my arm in the least. The bottom line for me is that the thing works and works well. The fold down prongs makes it easy to pack and it takes up little space.
I have no complaints about this product what so ever.
I am so happy I bought this and didn't get cheap and try to buy a 3rd party one. I am a name brand kind of guy. I bought this with my Kindle from Amazon and I got a $5 promotional credit toward this so it only cost me $15 instead of $20. I was thinking about not buying one and just using my Ipad or my phone charger but then I would have to switch it out each time. Maybe I am lazy but for $15 now I have one just for my Kindle that was made by Amazon so I know it is going to work. Yea it is small and I bet there is a lot of chargers out there that probably work just as good. I try not to be cheap when it comes to things that are important to me. $139 Kindle deserves it's "Official" charger.
It's hard black plastic with a bight shiny finish. It matches my Kindle and it's cover quite nicely which was important to me and luckily my USB cord was also black so it matched the USB power adapter perfectly. When used with the USB cord in this USB powder adaptor it charges my Kindle right up....I could not be happier. If not for this USB power adapter I would not be able to charge my Kindle and the really great thing is I can still read my kindle while using this USB power adapter. I received my USB power adapter very quickly and right on time.
I've been having problems with my Kindle not charging and it was suggested trying a new charger. But brand-name! I don't know the technicalities of why, so I went with a cheaper solution. It didn't work. So I went with the name brand and haven't had any problems since. Still think the battery is going out, but at least I can get the Kindle fully charged now. Disappointed the chargers are sooo expensive.
I received this as a gift along with the Paperwhite. I likely wouldn't have purchased it myself, since I have an iPhone and could just as easily use that charger to charge my Kindle as well, but I'm glad to have it. The price is a little much, and it seems silly that this isn't just included with the Kindle itself. My one real complaint: it's nice that the plug's prongs fold in (convenient for packing, since you don't have to worry about them getting damaged/bent in transit), but that means the prongs are in the middle of the plastic housing. If you'll be plugging this into a power strip rather than a wall outlet, it might block a neighboring outlet on the strip. A minor annoyance, certainly, but outlet space is tight in my little apartment, so it would be nice if the plastic housing was just a little smaller.
